So glad we booked this tour …
Highly recommend. Sam was an excellent and friendly tour guide. He gives a nice walking overview of the Taos Plaza area.

A Must Tour for Any Visitor or Resident in Taos!
Sam is an amazing historian and guide. We spent the entire hour or so in the square area, learning history by seeing historical spots and statues and meeting incredible artist shopkeepers and chocolatiers. This is the perfect way to begin your visit to Taos! If you haven’t taken it before, please join this tour. Sam’s enthusiasm is contagious — and his humor is infectious. 😊 We are very glad we took this valuable tour.

Our tour was cancelled. No reason given. Supposed to get a refund...will look for it. Disappointed and will look for another.

      Terrible Tour of Taos
It was a terrible tour. Our tour guide Sam was late, his delivery was boring, and basically told mostly about the current businesses, which we could have found out on our own. Plus our guide was very political and very vocal about it. I didn’t take the tour to be have someone push their political ideology. I was expecting a history tour but instead got a political tour. Also tge pictures he showed us throughout the tour were tattered , old and some were offensive to my wife ( pictures of naked gay men). This was very disappointing as many suggested tours by Trip Advisor were outstanding

      A great introduction to Taos
Sam was awesome! This tour was a great way to get oriented to downtown Taos as a first-time visitor. I went back to several of the places we covered and got a good sense of Taos's history and culture. Sam is an engaging and well-versed guide. I highly recommend this experience.

      Perfect!
Our tour guide Sam was great, very friendly and knowledgeable, and brought with him photos and fun references. Great stories and history we learned that we wouldn't have heard just walking around on our own. Definitely recommended this walking tour!

      Walking and Art.
We all enjoyed this walking tour of Taos. You do go into lots of art gallery’s but I don’t feel any pressure to buy anything. Our guide Sam was a lovely man!

      Don’t overlook Taos!!
Sam is so very knowledgeable of the Taos area history which goes back to the 1600’s. He knows historical influencers of the region as well as all of the local shop owners. He is not only great at answering questions, but of relating to both young and older visitors. He is inspiring and you can tell he loves his hometown.

      Walkin with Sam
Sam had stories that brought old Taos to light in surprising and humorous ways. He carried a packet of images to make his stories more pointed. We talked with some folks who are part of contemporary Taos. Thanks, Sam!

Sam was 5 stars. Taos 3 stars.
Sam was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Taos however, seriously needs to work on their infrastructure. The all-important town square was tore up and, apparently, has been so for a long time. Otherwise, we learned a lot about this vibrant town and it's varied history. Thanks Sam!!

Great start to your stay in Taos
Sam was a wonderful tour guide, leading us around the historic Taos Plaza, through the John Dunn shops on Bent Street, and more. He had a binder full of photos to illustrate his narrative and to give it more context. As an artist himself, he introduced us to some of the artists who own galleries in the plaza, and recommended a semi-secret exhibit of DH Lawrence paintings that I enjoyed seeing at the conclusion of our tour. Highly recommend this introduction to Taos!

Toured Taos Pueblo and had a guided informative tour of the native history
Amazing history of native Americans of the Red Willow People. There are approx 5 native families that still reside in the Taos Pueblos.

We take tours everywhere we go because it’s such a great way to learn about a city. Sam did a great job on this tour sharing the history of Taos and the plaza in town. He had some great stories and since he’s an artist himself, he had some personal drawings to illustrate them, which was fun. He shared some interesting facts about movies that were either shot in the area or about the area and being movie buffs, we liked that. His stories about Dennis Hopper led us to visit his grave in Taos and that was something unexpected and very cool. I highly recommend taking this tour and spending some time with Sam if you visit Taos.

My husband and I enjoyed this walking tour with Sam. We didn't walk far, just around the plaza to a few adjacent alleys. He gave an informative history of the area and told stories about some of the notable characters who have lived in Taos. It was interesting to hear about art scene here and the movies that were filmed here. We did go in two galleries but there was no pressure to buy any artwork.

We had a great tour of Taos proper with Taos Walking Tours led by Sam Richardson, an artist, writer and story teller. In addition to a charming guide fitting characteristically into the local Taos scene, a great story teller with his hand drawn picture of local characters of the past. Do not pass up this tour.

Sam was knowledgeable and affable. He knew many people along the tour and several contribute with their thoughts. He is also an artist and author. Part of the tour included a shop with some of his paintings on display for sale.

We so enjoyed our time with Sam today. His stories and visuals (including his own drawings), together with walking around to the sites, brought the history of Taos to life. It was interesting to visit several galleries of local art and to actually meet a couple of the artists.

I hope to come back to Taos, I will engage Sam again. I suspect he has many more stories to tell.

As others have said, this is NOT a private tour, which I thought I was paying for. I was surprised and not particularly happy that we spent time in several private galleries (which is my bad for not carefully reading the info on this site). We also went into an artist's collective, where Sam led us to his own artwork. Also as others have mentioned, there was no real pressure to buy but I felt a bit uncomfortable.

The entire tour was in an area directly around the plaza which was fine since there's a lot of history close in. Sam also gave us a reading list. It was all okay but I can only give a 3 out of 5.

Sam who is a vet, artist, makes jam AND a storyteller was a delightful and informative guide. Yes, he took us into some art galleries but Taos’ evolving history is woven into artist who came and changed the timbre of the city. We were really glad to have had this experience with Sam. Oh and yes, we were a group of 8 but none fo that impacted the enjoyment of the tour.

NOTE: This is not a private tour. The description says 'Private' and 'one-on-one' but we were included with 6 others and told that it was for a single guide (?) and that the description needed to be corrected on the website. Otherwise, nice gentleman, lives in Taos so he also shared personal stories.

Sam was a great tour guide, he has lived in Taos for years and has lots of knowledge about the town and it’s history! He accommodated our group nicely, and it was an easy walk around town, even for our three year old. He was full of information, and answered all the questions we had about Taos and it colorful history. He even gave us local food and restaurant recommendations! Delicious chili rellenos and posole here, don’t miss sampling the local food! Highly recommend this tour!
