- 718ivanw0 contributionsAn amazing experience! The Underground Donut Tour: Flatiron is an absolutely amazing experience! The tour guide that I had, Jenny, was engaging and a huge ball of laughs. She kept our group completely entertained throughout the entire tour. She guided us through the Flatiron district, filling our heads with a ton of historical facts. I definitely didn't expect to learn as much as I did. FYI: be ready to take some pictures along the way. We made stops along the way at points with picturesque views. FYI #2: be ready to walk. I definitely got my steps in for the day during the tour and it was totally worth it for the delicious treats that awaited us along the way. Now for the donuts. These are not your average Dunkin delights. I was overwhelmed by some of the selections available, each one sounding more decadent than the next. With such a selection to choose from, you cannot go wrong with whatever your taste buds decide on. Your only regret will be not purchasing a few extra to take home with you. FYI #3: be sure to save some room in your stomach for the final stop. What comes out of that kitchen will floor you. You will not be disappointed taking this tour.Written 29 May 2024
- Culture013123412060 contributionsGreat experienceJenny was great and she show us all the donut shops along with the historical sites in the area. What a wonderful way to spend a morning - walking around a beautiful city and eating donuts. Nick was our guide and he did a great job telling us about the donuts and history of both the shops and city. We'd recommend it to anyone wanting to do something different and fun!

Jackson & Addison were fantastic guides! They didn’t *glaze* over any of the fun facts about each stop. My husband and I had so much fun and the donuts were DELICIOUS. All of the little facts and jokes that were *sprinkled* in were a fun little addition to the tour as well. Both guides were also clearly conscious of COVID safety and kept things clean and safe. Highly recommend this tour for a good way to see the city and eat some truly scrumptious donuts- I truly enjoyed the *hole* experience.

We had such a great time with our super knowlegdable guide, Addison.
She brought us to 4 different donut shops, explained their histories and provided us with some delicious samples (3 of 4 even offered vegan options!).
Great fun for kids and adults.

Jackson leading the donut tour was awesome!! His jokes were actually pretty funny and he was genuinely entertaining. I took my interns out for this donut tour on their last day of work and we thoroughly enjoyed (and got full) eating several donuts from Chicago's top donut spots. We had a blast and I highly recommend it!!

So you can do the bus, the boat, the helicopter (if you’re minted) and I did my first tour of the city via doughnut! Nah, this isn’t a gimmick, no giant doughnut wending it’s way through the streets like some sort of comic book supervillain. This was a walking tour which takes in several of the better known doughnut shops in the city as well as passing by many of Chicago’s best known features.
For two hours, we were in the capable hands of our tour guide Jackson who told us tales of the city (no, not _those_ tales of the city) and handed out a cornucopia of different flavoured doughnuts, some familiar, some a little more exotic.
It lasted two hours and the tour isn’t on a loop; it’s an A2B tour so one may need to factor in the end point (by the hospital) if travelling at the end is a factor. But the length was about right and the doughnuts you get to sample are pretty filling so you might want to consider meal planning for that day accordingly. There is of course, opportunity to buy doughnuts for yourself on the way.
Other tour patrons were both local to Chicago and also from further afield. Families, couples, solo travellers - from all backgrounds so a nice eclectic mix.

Jackson was fantastic. He’s funny, personable, and knowledgeable about both donuts and the city of Chicago, and it’s clear he enjoys doing what he does. All of the donuts were fantastic (even my least favorite was better than any standard commercial donut I’ve ever had) and I’m happy we took this tour early in our visit so we could go back to each place throughout our stay. I would definitely recommend this tour if you like donuts, laughing, and interesting facts on an awesome city!

My husband and I actually did this tour in the summer of 2021 when he was in town for a trial, but the site won't let me choose further back than February, 2022. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour, and the donuts were SO delicious! Since it's been over a year since we did it, I can't remember our guides' names for sure, I know the girl was Addison, and I THINK the guy was Jackson, but I can't swear to that. Anyway, they were fun and knowledgable about the city and had more personality and more stories than the guide on our river architecture cruise. I highly recommend the Underground Donut Tour to anyone going to a city where there is one, and my kids and I did the NYC one last September when I took them to NYC for their first time.
The tour started at Doughnut Vault, where we had a chestnut raised donut and a coconut creme old fashioned donut. The chestnut one was delicious! Even though I'm not much of a fan of coconut, the coconut creme one was good, too. Next stop was Firecakes, where we had a Tahitian vanilla with crunchy baubles donut and a churro donut. Both of these were DELICIOUS! Third stop was Stan's donuts, where we had a Bischoff cookie butter donut and a lemon pistachio old fashioned. Both of those were really good, especially the cookie butter one! The last stop was Do Rite Donuts, where we had a buttermilk old fashioned and a dark chocolate old fashioned. I tried to post pics of the donuts, but it kept freezing and wouldn't post.
Bottom line, don't hesitate....just book this tour! You'll have fun, you'll learn facts about the city, you'll taste some very delicious donuts, and you'll get some exercise at the same time! :)

We had fantastic time on the Chicago Donut tour. Our tour guide, Max, was friendly, personable and most of all knowledgable about the city and the donuts! We would 100% recommend this tour as a fun way to see different areas of the city and to try some amazing donuts. The donut shops were a good, manageable distance from one another so there was time to walk off some donuts before each stop. If we are in Chicago again, we would go again!

What a blast this was! The weather for our tour was semi-hospitable, not yet freezing but certainly chilly in the shade. Expect some standing around, which is probably the only con I can think of. With that out of the way, there were a ton of positives. The first is that this tour is both tourist and local-friendly. Our particular group was mostly tourists, and everyone was super friendly. Perhaps you could say only friendly people eat donuts? Having a fun group and tour guide on top of tasty donuts made this tour excellent.
If Nick is your guide, you won't have any trouble hearing him over the sounds of traffic. He articulates and projects so clearly, my buddy and I found ourselves positioning ourselves towards the back of the group. He's great, though - knowledgeable, personable, and funny when he's not putting forth the worst dad jokes you've heard (haha). He knows and is all too happy to share Chicago's donut history, and wants to know your favorites, too. It's a great time. Just pace yourself :)

We had a fabulous, COVID-safe tour with Jackson and Addison! They were great guides to some of the best donuts in Chicago and we learned a lot about the neighborhoods we walked through and about what makes each of the donut stops special. If you love donuts (who doesn't?!?) and you've got a couple hours while visiting Chicago, I highly recommend taking a spin on the Underground Donut Tour. You won't regret it!

Could you do this tour with a group of 3 people total? Potentially 8/20/22 or 8/21/22. Cost if doable?
Written 4 July 2022
You can do this tour with any size group of people most participants were in small groups of friends or families. There were like a total of approx 15 to 20 in our group of which I had a family of 4. If you are requesting a private tour then I think you would need to contact the organizer directly. Personally I don’t think you need to do that to enjoy the experience

Can an unvaccinated child of 5 go on the tour stops?
Written 17 February 2022
Most of the tour is outside you dont go into donut shops unless to use the restroom we were NOT asked to show proof of vaccine and the tour guide wasn't even wearing a mask and that in was Nov 2021 call the tour company and ask to be sure
worth the money for sure

You get a lot. At the end of the tour there is extra donuts and you can take some home with you. You do get full after the third stop but it didn’t stop me from eating more lol. Loved the tour and our guides.
It’s worth it!

How many donuts are included in the price of the tour?
Written 12 January 2020
You won’t go starving or thirsty. They offer plenty of various flavors and you could get a couple of your own to save for later. Water and coffees are available at each stop if you run out during the tour. I recommend doubling up on waters if you’re doing a tour in the Summer.
