- christineaW5233QN00Amazing ride!A stand-out trail ride! Lots of opportunities to trot and canter, but also accessible and comfortable for beginners. The special saddle and "monkey strap" made it easy for my partner (who's a novice rider) to feel safe and secure even while going fast. Summer was terrific.
- Culture78297700Amazing Family Trail Ride with Expert GuideWe called at 9:30 this morning and they were able to accommodate us for a private trail ride at 12:30. We spoke to Kelly who was so kind and helpful! When we arrived, we were greeted by the great staff and given a quick lesson before we were fitted with helmets and headed out. Kelly was our guide and she was so patient and encouraging with my two kiddos (9 and 10) who are very beginner. Our ride was stunning - she went at our pace and gave us great history and background of the land and the area. She even snapped some fantastic pictures for us! Kelly’s horses are gorgeous, obviously very well cared for, and extremely well trained. I can’t recommend enough! 10/10
- Andrew M00Fun horse ride for all levelsWe have had a wonderful morning with Emily’s team and your wonderful horses. Both my daughter and I have found the guides friendly and helpful, with excellent support throughout the ride. We never felt unsafe and once the weather cleared up, we also got to enjoy the stunning view. We loved the horses, they are easy to handle, and well matched to our riding abilities.
- SallyStorey00Great for kidsFriendly and quick service. The kids loved the playground and it was easy to sit in the beer garden to watch them. Food was good and mulled wine delicious
- Chrissy38700Great experience through the high countryWe had an excellent time on the quad bike tour today at Cardrona. Spent time in the beautiful back country of Cardrona. Kat and Kelly made the trip fun, interesting and safe . The trek can be a bit tricky in parts but you are never under any pressure to do more than you are comfortable and Kat is happy fir you to ride in the buggy for as much or as little as you want . The scenery is spectacular and the commentary interesting too.
- 363sujiny00Quad biking was super fun!!We did the quad bike tour with Kelly. I have never been on a quad bike before, so Kelly was extremely helpful and made sure I felt comfortable before we started ascending the mountain. The views were spectacular and we really enjoyed the tour. We also loved the warm welcome from the furry residents - Jimmy, Ettie and Barney.
- Sightseer6263315751300A must do experienceWe got our money's worth and more. Blandine was an amazing guide, we got the chance to learn about the area, see fantastic views and have an amazing experience, all in one. Highly recommend
- elljsmith00Gorgeous horseback adventureAbsolutely loved the horse ride through the gorgeous Cardrona countryside. Kelly was knowledgeable, polite, and provided a professional service. Lovely tame horses that were used to being mounted by strangers. Lots of interesting information and tidbits throughout! Pictures were included in the price - not sure why other reviews suggest otherwise.
- emmayunqi00Photo Fee ComplaintThe views were great and it was fun! My only complain is that... you pay about $350 for this experience and the lady in the end still asked a $25 fee for the mediocre photos she took on her iPhone of us... I just didn't really make sense either because if I had asked the companions joining us to take the photos for us using my phone they would've said yes the lady didn't have a problem with that and then they would've been free? We are students and already paying a lot to have this experience. To try and get the extra bucks for mid photos we could've taken ourselves is a bit, well, tone deaf in my opinion.
- agentjm1200Off road and above the clouds - major highlight! My husband and I booked the 2-hour quad bike experience and were lucky enough to be the only people on the tour with our guide Emily that day. After a thorough safety briefing and some test runs, we travelled across a variety of terrain including grass, rocks, mud and creeks, and rode up through farmland to the top of one of the mountains in the Pisa Range. It was challenging in places but definitely manageable, even for relative novices, and Emily's instructions and advice were excellent. We took a different track on the way down. Each section was a lot of fun and the views were incredible. There was no snow at our summit (at the end of June) and the weather was pretty cloudy, but once we got above the cloud line we had spectacular views of the landscape and across to the snow capped mountains and Cardrona ski field. Tip - do not wear your best gear as it gets very muddy and you will get splashed, especially after rain! We were able to borrow gumboots, ski gloves and big jackets to protect our clothes which I was grateful for. Emily took photos of our trip which we were able to purchase for $25. We took the morning tour at 10am and stopped by the Cardrona Hotel for lunch afterwards to relive our adventure. Couldn't recommend it highly enough, thanks to Emily and the company for a major trip highlight.
- 992arianag00Up in the mountainsEnjoyed the views on the quad bikes, our guide was friendly and informative. It was only my partner and I on the quads and another family in a buggy so it made it more fun and focus. Going up the mountains were steady and not too challenging or dangerous however whilst going up I was thinking this is going to be difficult coming back down however we went a different way to come down which I felt safe. The cat was really cute and friendly and greeted as warmly. There are toilets on site and the inside waiting area is warm and inviting.
- Alla K00Fun and fast!Even better than expected! Kel was a great guide, the ride was fun and fast paced and well matched to rider experience! The horses were excellent and well cared for. No snow on the ground but the scenery was lovely, visit to the gorgeous pub well worthwhile.
- M6695RUsamanthap00A must do experience! This was such an amazing experience! Anna was our wonderful tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about the area, sharing lots of fun facts and made me feel safe on the horse as I was a beginner. Beautiful views the whole way and a stop at the iconic Cadrona Hotel.
- kmlrm00Beautiful bird's-eye view of Cardrona ValleyThe guides, one of them Blandine, were very friendly and ensured safety of all the quad bike riders. Tour was paced really well and the distance driven (we went up and up!) was suitable even for beginners. The steep terrain of the valley was daunting at first but you get used to it and at the peak, your eyes will be treated a to a beautiful view of the valley and adjacent mountains. What a sight to behold!
- bethan06lewis00Pub rideWe had the BEST time on our ride with Blandine :) she was so lovely and it was such a nice change to do a ride with such amazing views. We did a nice few trots and canters and the horses were great. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a horse trek that’s worth the money!

Had a fantastic time with Kelly on the Gold Discovery Horse Riding tour. Kelly was extremely helpful with teaching me to ride Wally, and very knowledgable when it came to history of Cardrona. She captured the moment perfectly with pictures and the views on the ride itself were stunning. Can’t recommend highly enough!

This is a wonderful 1.5 hour horse ride including a little lesson at the start of how to ride the horses. The scenery was stunning and the ride included crossing a river (twice!) and some trots. We were even lucky enough to meet (and maybe accidentally herd) some cows! Sam was very patient with all of us, informative and even took some great photos of us all at the same time! They have a beautiful welcoming committee that includes a cat and 2 dogs (the cat does not give you an option).
Also a tip: well worth it to go to the Cardrona Hotel for breakfast before the trek.

Awesome way to start the day. Felt so lucky to horse trekking in the stunning Cardrona Valley. It was definitely one of the best ride that we have done. Sun was shinning which made the ride even more enjoyable. It wasn’t boring at all, even for beginners. We had few river crossing, met some sheep along the way and explored stunning sceneries, up and down hill. We also did several brillant trots and canters. Horses were gentle and well trained. Sam our guide welcomed us and looked after us very well. She’s well organised and professional. Sheds and equipment are well looked after. Everything was spotless. Thank you Sam and her Team for the awesome experience. We would recommend anyone to do this activity if you wanna take some high and immerse yourself in History and Nature.

Kelly’s horse trek adventure was so well organized with well cared for horses that meet all riding abilities. My two daughters (8,5) were able to gain confidence and try trotting and explore various areas of the Cardrona Valley. I’d highly recommend for all levels of riders who are looking for beautiful views on horseback with a ton of fun exploring!

My 7 year old daughter and I did this ride last year she and I both enjoyed it so much I promised her we would be back. We had Sam as our guide this time and she was just great!! She made us fell comfortable and really at home. The horses are well cared for, have wonderful temperaments and our trek was so much fun. Sam is knowledgeable about the place, the horses, and is a fab person to have as a guide. I would thoroughly recommend this tour to anybody who is just a beginner through to experienced riders. With the professionalism of the trek and the breathtaking views this is an activity not to be missed. Thanks team, another great experience and one that will keep Maddi and I coming back.

Fantastic experience for myself and my two children (8 & 10). Guide Kim was great, as a novice rider I felt very comfortable. My children have some riding experience and Kim was able to cater for them too. Stunning scenery, well worth it. Highly recommend, from booking to the ride.

WOW! I’ve been travelling to Queenstown regularly over the past 15 years and wish I had discovered this ride years ago. Undoubtedly the best of over a hundred horse treks I’ve been on in NZ. Lou and Danny(our horses) were the ideal match for us making the adventure the perfect experience! Can’t wait to get back down it the summer for another blast up the hill!
Thanks so much to Sam who was the perfect guide with great chat and exceptional, one handed, backward facing photographic skills. The amazing photos and videos have made for some very envious friends.

What a lovely horse trek through the Cardrona Valley, discovering gold mining history.
Kim ( our guide) was a bubbly, friendly and knowledgeable guide who made us all feel at ease. She ensured everyone was comfortable and confident aboard their sturdy steeds.
The Horses were well cared for and on their best behavior, our 2 girls, 11 and 13 were given the chance to trot along and did so happily.
Although having ridden before this was a real confidence builder for them.
I highly recommend The Cardrona for a Horse Trek. Will Happily go again

I’ve ridden in a number of places in Tauranga, Queenstown, Dunedin and Hanmer Springs and although Hanmer holds a soft spot with me I can’t help but commend The Cardrona - their horse riding experience was THE BEST I’ve ever had!
Not only were they incredibly communicative and organised, but friendly too! A lot of horse riding places around New Zealand can be a little judgemental of inexperienced and even intermediate riders but here I felt safe, confident and welcome. The ride alone was picturesque and therapeutic, but to top it off I finally learnt how to canter for the first time ever with the support and encouragement of Sam. And somehow she managed to get numerous photos and videos along the trek so that I could take some memories back with me!
I’m so grateful and can’t wait to ride with them again!

Hi
Just wondering if there is a weight limit to be able to horse ride. I know places you can’t ride if you are over 80kg?
Thanks

Hi, I didn't get any questions about my weight when booking and there was definitely no weigh-in before we got on the horses. Enjoy!
