- _helenmfryer0 contributionsGreat fun whatever your ageKat was so patient with us and adapted the usual ride to ensure that both the absolute beginner and the more experienced biker had a fantastic time. You helped create more great memories of our holiday - thank you!!Written 19 January 2025
- Janine W0 contributionsAwesome experienceHad a fantastic experience- good length of time and awesome scenery. Our guide Hannah was great and extended our experience - so we went faster and further than we expected- which was superb. Fantastic value for money!Written 21 December 2024
- Chez B0 contributionsFantastic!Wonderful place! Incredible horses. Truly cared for, gentle and wonderfully trained. Did the ride with a 6 and 8 year old and Hannah was so attentive with my 6 year old. She felt so safe on her horse and both kids had a spectacular time. Huge confidence booster. The scene is lovely as well. Lucky to see baby lambs and cows for added cuteness. The people who work here clearly love the horses and know what they’re doing. This level of love and attentiveness will be hard to match elsewhere! Highly recommended!Written 13 December 2024
- NHau880 contributionsAn amazing ride through the Cardrona valley! We absolutely LOVED our ride at Cardrona! We booked a family friendly tour, as all 3 of us (13, 16 & 43) had some experience, but hadn't been on a horse for a few years. Hanna created us in the morning, (together with the 2 gorgeous cats), and had already prepared the horses for us. Since it was a bit cold and rainy she gave us gloves and even one of us could use an amazing long jacket, which we really appreciated!! We quickly got onto our horse and took off for the most beautiful ride! The horses were great, so friendly and responsive! Each of them with their own personality, which was explained to us, and showed during the ride. But all very calm and amazing horses! The saddles were very comfortable! Hanna took us through the fields and up the hills around the stables, and gave us great info about the region and the nature around! For a small fee we organised that she took photos and videos of us while out, which was great! We would have loved to keep going for the whole day, as it was such a beautiful ride. And we truly enjoyed it! Definitely a highlight during our South-Island trip! Thank you Hanna, and of course Willow, Pat and Andy!!!!Written 12 December 2024
- Sightsee658668545740 contributionsTop Beat RideFantastic experience on a private ‘Top Beat’ ride with Kel and Hanna! Beautiful surroundings and very healthy, happy horses. Kel was extremely responsive via phone or email and has a clear love of the local area. This ride is definitely only to be done if you have lots of riding experience as it’s very fast-paced with high-speed turns and hopping over creeks. Super action videos and photos were included. A great mix of scenery and adrenaline-fuelled riding - would definitely do again!Written 11 December 2024
- jamesrF6229HQ0 contributionsDefinitely Recommend! We had an amazing Quad Bike tour! The staff were very friendly, the views were amazing, and the quad bike trail was really fun! This was our first time riding quad bikes and we were a little nervous, but the guide, Hanna, drove at a pace we were comfortable with and stopped along the way to teach us history about the area. Would highly recommend!Written 29 November 2024
- abigailv2110 contributionsGreat staff! So helpful and accommodating!I couldn’t possibly say enough lovely things about The Cardrona Quad Bike experience! The staff & guides were incredibly helpful and kind! They called us the morning of our booking to ask about how we would be arriving and let us know about some road closures that impacted our route from Queenstown. They were patient with our group as we arrived quite a bit late (due to said road closures). Our guide was so positive and kind throughout the entire experience, took photos for us at some of the view points, and ensured we all had a blast!Written 28 November 2024
- jialing_fever490 contributionsOnce in a lifetime experienceOnce in a lifetime adventure! Views were maxing against the snow cap mountains, tussock grass and little lambs! It was pure 2 hours of riding on different terrains, ground, grass, puddle of water, and the road which allows u to drive at full speed! The guide took photos and videos of us. Though it was required at a fee, we felt it was well deserved for the amazing views that she was able to take of us. Highly recommend!Written 19 October 2024
- U3215OVcathym0 contributionsWonderful horse riding experienceIt was my children’s first time horse riding and I’m not far from beginner myself. The guides were amazing, friendly, patient and reassuring and it didn’t take long for my son to feel less anxious and enjoy the ride. We crossed a flowing creek, climbed the surrounding hills, walked past some grazing cattle and watched the weather chance dramatically. The views are next level, beautiful countryside and snow capped mountains. We had an amazing time.Written 12 October 2024
- Odyssey462635176130 contributionsSuper fun quad trails, great guides and rare snow!Went on the quad bike tour. It was a rare weather day for heavy snow in the area, we lucked out on such a unique experience – I hope some future customers luck out in the same way. Guides were helpful and willing to have fun! They were great photographers too! This was the first time I ever touched snow and what a magnificent way to do so near the peaks at Cardrona Valley!Written 3 October 2024
- Curious502401661200 contributionsDO NOT recommendSadly we were miss informed when asked if there will be driving in snow. Right before we came we asked if there is snow and they told us yes. That was most of the experience that we were looking forward to. Very disappointing, honestly a waste of money, don’t appreciate insincerity. On top of all that, pictures were taken of us through out the trip on the guides iPhone without asking only to be asked to pay extra at the end to receive them. The guide wasn’t driving a quad bike which made it difficult to follow her track. DO NOT recommend.Written 28 September 2024
- Happiness440511661280 contributionsAwesome ExperienceAwesome experience, Summer was our guide who was very knowledgeable about the past history of the area which was very interesting to learn about. Going up to the top and driving through the snow certainly was an unforgettable experience. Thanks Summer!!Written 18 June 2024

- 772julietg0 contributionsSafe, fun, and 100% worth it!Kelly took my friend an I on a beautiful Quad bike tour around the beautiful mountains in Cardrona. During this experience she pointed out things which contributed to the history of this beautiful old town. She was a very bubbly and supportive tour guide, ensuring safety while also providing a spectacular adventure with amazing views, flora and fauna. Couldn’t recommend this experience enough! - Jet596262931980 contributionsGreat quad bike experience for the familyOur family (kids aged 12 and 15 years old) had a fabulous time on the quad bikes on the River Run. The kids were so excited to ride their own quads. The owner Kel was friendly and engaging (and very responsive to emails) and took the time for us all to feel comfortable with the quads (kids were new to quads) before taking us on a scenic trip, stopping briefly to provide some history about the surrounding area. Such a beautiful area and the photos are a great reminder of the fun morning.Written 18 April 2024

Review for Kat
Had a wonderful afternoon on a private riding tour with Kat. We brought a group of 7, most of us pretty inexperienced riders. Kat gave us a brief run-down on how to ride their horses, introduced us to our steeds, and we were shortly underway. We wound up through the hillside of an extensive ranch. The views across the valley were grabd, and Kat kept things exciting for us with intermittent opportunities to trot or canter. The tour was highlighted by a quick stop for a comp’d beverage at the village’s old bar/hotel, which has been beautifully maintained in its original style — a worthwhile destination. If you want to get a fix of riding, and get away from the main touristy hub of Queenstown, I can highly recommend, lots of fun!

We live in Wanaka but was told about this riding experience by a friend of ours who said it was AMAZING ! We decided to try it out for ourselves and it was INCREDIBLE. The horses were fabulous , clearly loved and well cared for. Laura, our guide was adorable and made us all feel at ease and shared great info about the area , she clearly loves her job and talked about all the horses with immense passion. The scenery was breathtaking and the ride was a great variation of trekking, cantering and trotting . This truly was the BEST horse riding experience we have ever been on …… worth every $$$$$$$$

We had a Great experience on the tour. Everyone involved was really nice and answered all of our questions. The Horses are clearly well cared for.
Our tour Guide Hanna explained a lot during the ride about the landscape and the history surrounding it.
We did a lot of canter even though there were some inexperienced riders in the group. But the Horses are really well Trained and everybody felt taken care of.
Would definitly recommend

Had the best time riding sweet boy Pat. Emily was our guide and was an absolute joy! She eased some of the other guest’s nerves about cantering, and gave cool tid bits about the history and nature of the valley all throughout the trek. She also took all the photos and videos for us so we could really be present and enjoy the ride.
We got to trot & canter! The horses were all beautifully trained as well. Another cool thing is that a lot of them are ex-race horses who now get to live a wonderful life with Kelly and her team in the Cardrona Valley.
Fantastic way to spend an afternoon! Thanks team!

A stand-out trail ride! Lots of opportunities to trot and canter, but also accessible and comfortable for beginners. The special saddle and "monkey strap" made it easy for my partner (who's a novice rider) to feel safe and secure even while going fast. Summer was terrific.

FREAKING AMAZING!
With the weather closing in, Kelly adjusted the route we were riding, and ensured we were comfortable, safe and well prepared for a beautiful ride through a high-country station at Cadrona.
Before we got started she discussed the route and what would work best for us, and was super considerate. Not only was Kelly welcoming, but we were joined by (forgive me if I get names wrong!) the cats Ettie and Jimmy for a hello and snuggle, and benny the dog for a scratch and rub, such happy pets speaks a lot to the quality of their owner!
With one of us more confident riding, and the other completely incompetent Kelly gave an excellent training session before we went out, she is clearly confident and experienced and had an excellent manner coaching, with many tricks and techniques to make it easier getting going. She picked the right horses for us and our relative experience levels, Danny was perfect for me as a beginner and we quickly got into a rhythm and enabled me to do my first proper canter, we ended up having a proper bromance.
Kelly gave us a run down on the local history of the station, Cadrona settlement, and the mountains. She also showed us local flora and fauna, like the rosehip and elderflower... which happen to be ingredients at the distillery next door, which we went to afterward on her recommendation, which turned out to be another amazing experience! Her local knowledge, wit and humour made the ride especially special and memorable.
I cannot recommend Kelly, and her animals enough, it was the best part of an amazing South Island trip and I sincerely hope we can go back again soon to try the quad bikes and do another (longer) ride!!

This tour will certainly be one of the highlights of our New Zealand Holiday. This 3 1/2 hour ride had everything to offer. The ride took us up into the hills, where we had the opportunity to trot and canter, ride up and down gullies and across streams. This ride had something to offer throughout, to be topped off with a quick drink at the pub, before our ride back. The ride was worth it for the scenery alone. If you are an intermediate to experienced rider, I highly recommend this ride.

i've been to lots of trekking centres and horse riding experiences over the years and these guys are probably the warmest and friendliest people i've ever dealt with.
the horses were all suited to each person's personality and experience while also making safety a number one priority.
sam our guide was full of local knowledge and stories as she took us up towards stunning scenes, down through rivers and gave us a number of cheeky canters.
the stop at the cadrona hotel was so special. there is so much character in that old building and it was quite a novelty to tie the horses up and go across to have a wee glass of mulled wine before hopping back on our horses and making our way back to the stables.
once we got back to the stables we were able to finish bonding with our horses by helping untack and feed them. we then had a wee look at all the gorgeous photos sam had captured on our trek. she's obviously got a lot of experience here including getting a few action shots too. was worth paying the extra to take these memories home.
great to see a business giving ex-trotting horses a home and a purpose while giving us humans an opportunity see some of the most beautiful parts of aotearoa from a different view.

We spent about three and a half hours with Sam who took us from novices to bring able to canter through the high country on their awesome horses. There is no better way to see such stunning scenery, all capped off by dropping past the iconic Cardrona Hotel. Simply the best afternoon out.

This is a fantastic way to feel the full beauty of the Cardrona valley. Kelly our host was organised, professional, and her love of horses, dogs and cats bring a calm, comforting, homely charm to her business. Sam my guide was sensible and took every precaution to make my trek safe, informative and ultimately a fun experience. These girls are experienced horse women and the countryside is just magical. The standard bred horses are perfect for the job, for even the most fearful beginner, sure-footed, safe and gentle.
