Amazing Family Trail Ride with Expert Guide
We called at 9:30 this morning and they were able to accommodate us for a private trail ride at 12:30. We spoke to Kelly who was so kind and helpful! When we arrived, we were greeted by the great staff and given a quick lesson before we were fitted with helmets and headed out. Kelly was our guide and she was so patient and encouraging with my two kiddos (9 and 10) who are very beginner. Our ride was stunning - she went at our pace and gave us great history and background of the land and the area. She even snapped some fantastic pictures for us! Kelly’s horses are gorgeous, obviously very well cared for, and extremely well trained. I can’t recommend enough! 10/10

    Great for kids
Friendly and quick service. The kids loved the playground and it was easy to sit in the beer garden to watch them. Food was good and mulled wine delicious

Great experience through the high country
We had an excellent time on the quad bike tour today at Cardrona. Spent time in the beautiful back country of Cardrona. Kat and Kelly made the trip fun, interesting and safe . The trek can be a bit tricky in parts but you are never under any pressure to do more than you are comfortable and Kat is happy fir you to ride in the buggy for as much or as little as you want . The scenery is spectacular and the commentary interesting too.

    Quad biking was super fun!!
We did the quad bike tour with Kelly. I have never been on a quad bike before, so Kelly was extremely helpful and made sure I felt comfortable before we started ascending the mountain. The views were spectacular and we really enjoyed the tour. We also loved the warm welcome from the furry residents - Jimmy, Ettie and Barney.

    Gorgeous horseback adventure
Absolutely loved the horse ride through the gorgeous Cardrona countryside. Kelly was knowledgeable, polite, and provided a professional service. Lovely tame horses that were used to being mounted by strangers. Lots of interesting information and tidbits throughout! Pictures were included in the price - not sure why other reviews suggest otherwise.

Beautiful winter morning trail ride in Cardrona
We did a two hour trail ride with Blandine with our two kids under 12 - both kids have some horse-riding experience. Kelly was there to help us set up and both Kelly and Blandine were super friendly and helpful. They selected horses appropriate for each rider's ability and comfort level. The ride was beautiful - through some small creeks and the gorgeous hillside around Cardrona. We all had a great time but this was a major highlight for our children who had been begging for a trail ride given all the awesome outdoor activities we enjoyed throughout our stay in New Zealand. Thank you Kelly and Blandine!

    Photo Fee Complaint
The views were great and it was fun! My only complain is that... you pay about $350 for this experience and the lady in the end still asked a $25 fee for the mediocre photos she took on her iPhone of us... I just didn't really make sense either because if I had asked the companions joining us to take the photos for us using my phone they would've said yes the lady didn't have a problem with that and then they would've been free? We are students and already paying a lot to have this experience. To try and get the extra bucks for mid photos we could've taken ourselves is a bit, well, tone deaf in my opinion.

Off road and above the clouds - major highlight!
My husband and I booked the 2-hour quad bike experience and were lucky enough to be the only people on the tour with our guide Emily that day. After a thorough safety briefing and some test runs, we travelled across a variety of terrain including grass, rocks, mud and creeks, and rode up through farmland to the top of one of the mountains in the Pisa Range. It was challenging in places but definitely manageable, even for relative novices, and Emily's instructions and advice were excellent. We took a different track on the way down. Each section was a lot of fun and the views were incredible. There was no snow at our summit (at the end of June) and the weather was pretty cloudy, but once we got above the cloud line we had spectacular views of the landscape and across to the snow capped mountains and Cardrona ski field. Tip - do not wear your best gear as it gets very muddy and you will get splashed, especially after rain! We were able to borrow gumboots, ski gloves and big jackets to protect our clothes which I was grateful for. Emily took photos of our trip which we were able to purchase for $25. We took the morning tour at 10am and stopped by the Cardrona Hotel for lunch afterwards to relive our adventure. Couldn't recommend it highly enough, thanks to Emily and the company for a major trip highlight.

    Up in the mountains
Enjoyed the views on the quad bikes, our guide was friendly and informative. It was only my partner and I on the quads and another family in a buggy so it made it more fun and focus. Going up the mountains were steady and not too challenging or dangerous however whilst going up I was thinking this is going to be difficult coming back down however we went a different way to come down which I felt safe. The cat was really cute and friendly and greeted as warmly. There are toilets on site and the inside waiting area is warm and inviting.

    Great for First Timers
I've never ridden a horse before and I had no issue on the ride. Nor did the ~5 year old in our group 😄. That said, this is a great trip as long as you understand that this is a walk only ride. We knew this going in, so we had a great time. I rode Danny and he was my dude. Very chill and easy to ride. I hardly had to do anything. Emily was our guide and was very helpful to give me the basics of horseback riding in a very short amount of time so that we could get going on the trail. She also took some great pictures of us. If you're an experienced rider, the Discovery Trail probably isn't the one for you (there are others you can do). If you're a first timer or looking for a leisurely walk among the scenery, this is the one for you. Either way, Cardrona horses trekking is the place to go!

Beautiful bird's-eye view of Cardrona Valley
The guides, one of them Blandine, were very friendly and ensured safety of all the quad bike riders. Tour was paced really well and the distance driven (we went up and up!) was suitable even for beginners. The steep terrain of the valley was daunting at first but you get used to it and at the peak, your eyes will be treated a to a beautiful view of the valley and adjacent mountains. What a sight to behold!

    Absolutely Fantastic
Experience date 27/3/2023 Wow wow wow what an experience. Not marketed as "Extreme" but trust me this is totally exhilarating......not a scraped out track over some bumps in a field....Quad Bike site seeing and adventure at its best. Arrived early and was greeted firstly by Kel's beautiful cat followed by Kel who exudes confidence and professionalism with no ego and has a way of calming things down when necessary. She could see straight away that my wife was not so sure concerning heights and before a word could be uttered jumped straight in and said to my wife how about you and I take the ATV while the others ride the quad bikes.......brilliant and totally made my wife feel at ease plus me as well. To be fair the Kel's ATV is amazing and this lady knows how to handle that machine, my wife actually done well out of this as she got a chauffer driven full on 4x4 mountain experience enjoying all the views and was full of smiles. Kel's Quad bikes are top end yes they do take a little getting to grips with but full and simple instructions are provided.........the machines have an auto gear box ...lever throttle, without you knowing it Kel puts you through your paces and only if she is happy will she take you up the mountain, there was zero pressure just a fun follow me and then our order was sorted as to who was to follow who and off we went. If need be these machines will take you up these tracks at a snails pace but equally there are times when some speed comes into play but all overseen by Kel and trust me I don't think she takes prisoners if a fool tries to play games. I have read comments about the fact that the guide takes the photos.......I totally understand why, yes there are frequent photo stops but I think the experience would be spoilt if everyone wanted to take photos, so better to let Kel use your phone and take your photos as she knows the best views and then you share between your group. Truly if I had time to squeeze in another visit I would and if I ever return to this side of the world count me in. Thanks Kel after 5 weeks in NZ this was truly the most fun and exhilarating experience my wife and I have had it was fantastic. Thank you Andrew & Laraine (UK)

An incredible experience far surpassing all expectations. Sam and Kelly showed such passion for these horses and this enamour was a large part of what made the day so enjoyable. As you climb high into the country, you are given opportunities to walk, trot and canter. As beginners, this seemed quite daunting at first however you are provided more than enough support to get you on your way, pushing past the initial hesitation. The horses are incredibly well behaved/trained. They know the terrain and route well, in many instances they will lead you, letting you know exactly when it’s time to trot and canter - they’d clearly done this many times over. This is comforting as a beginner.

This is a must-do. It’s about seeing the Cardrona landscape in a way that’s not accessible to the public and doing it in a unique way. Whether you’re a fan of horses or are just looking for something different to try, you cannot go wrong with this trek.

The pit-stop at the Cardrona Hotel is a nice touch as well as the local history imparted along the way. We’ve been on a number of activities in the Queenstown region and this is by far the best we’ve encountered.

We did a horse trekking trip with Kelly and it was so amazing! My husband and I are still in awe about this wonderful experience. We are quite difficult to put in a group, but Kelly managed it. I'm a really experienced rider and my husband has no experience at all.
We were only a group of four people, which was really nice and Kelly picked out the perfect horse for everyone.
We even trotted and cantered for a long amount of time (did I mention my husband never did any faster paces on a horse?). Instructions were really clear, Kelly is very fun, the horses are nice and really healthy and the scenery is stunning.
This trip was worth every penny and it really is the perfect horse trek for everyone, from beginners to experienced.
Thank you so much Kelly for making our trip so special!

We live in Wanaka but was told about this riding experience by a friend of ours who said it was AMAZING ! We decided to try it out for ourselves and it was INCREDIBLE. The horses were fabulous , clearly loved and well cared for. Laura, our guide was adorable and made us all feel at ease and shared great info about the area , she clearly loves her job and talked about all the horses with immense passion. The scenery was breathtaking and the ride was a great variation of trekking, cantering and trotting . This truly was the BEST horse riding experience we have ever been on …… worth every $$$$$$$$

My partner and I were the only 2 on the tour for the day, and the trek was amazing! Kelly was such a great guide and very informative about the history of Cardrona and the Cardrona Hotel. She was also very helpful with teaching us both how to ride horses. And to top it off, we were treated to a complementary drink at the Cardrona hotel! I would highly recommend this for anyone who wants to see the Crown Range from a different angle and to anyone who has ever wanted to try horseback ridding!

Kelly the owner welcomed us warmly and gave us clear easy to understand guidance so that we would be able to really enjoy the ride.
Then along the way she gave us bits of history of the area, making sure we got the most out of our trip.
As a relative beginner I was excited to be given the chance to push myself a little and progress to a trot & canter. Thanks Kelly 😀.
It was an interesting varied trek with beautiful scenery from up the hills. Would recommend this ride, & we will certainly be back again!

I think it is basically impossible to take a bad photo in this beautiful country of ours!! We have actually managed to survive without killing each other in our very small new home over the last week. Amazingly we have really enjoyed it! Done some wonderful stuff and the Kiwi hospitality we have experienced everywhere we have been has been top notch. Highlight of the trip would have to be the horse trek with @thecardrona, I was a bit worried it would be a boring “you must stay on the lead trek” but no, it was the highlight of the trip! We got to really ride the horses, plenty of fantastic views down Cardrona Valley, heaps of trotting and cantering for the more experienced riders yet still catered to the less experienced! Perfect. #dontleavetowntillyouseethecountry #NZ

Amazing experience, would highly recommend! My partner is a complete beginner, I have been riding for over 20 years, both of us thoroughly enjoyed our trek. The horses were impeccably behaved, we had some brilliant canters, water crossings and beautiful views. The stop at the cardrona hotel for a drink was great too. Our guide Sam was very knowledgeable and friendly, we felt in very safe hands. 100% recommend and hope to go back again!

We spent about three and a half hours with Sam who took us from novices to bring able to canter through the high country on their awesome horses. There is no better way to see such stunning scenery, all capped off by dropping past the iconic Cardrona Hotel. Simply the best afternoon out.

Kelly is not only an awesome tour guide but also a great horse person. The experience was incredible, riding into the mountains and to the local pub. The views were stunning and the horses super easy but forward moving. The horses are also very well looked after.
Highly recommend this place - would love to come back and do the other horse rides and would also be keen on the quad bike tours!
Thanks Kelly!
