    What to Expect
Visit: Santa Barbara Zoo, 500 Ninos Dr, Santa Barbara, CA 93103-3798

Known as “one of the world’s most beautiful zoos,” the Santa Barbara Zoo is located on 30 acres of botanic gardens and is home to nearly 500 individual animals. The giraffes have a view of beach volleyball, due to its location on a hill overlooking popular East Beach, as well as the Pacific Ocean, Channel Islands, Santa Ynez Mountains, and city of Santa Barbara. It is accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), representing the highest level of animal care, and participates in AZA endangered species programs for Asian Elephant, Amur Leopard, and Western Lowland Gorilla, among others. California Trails exhibit features endangered or threatened animals from the Golden State, including rare California Condors, Channel Island Foxes, and Desert Tortoises. African species include Lions, Masai Giraffes, Slender-Tailed Meerkats, and Western Lowland Gorillas. Asian Small-Clawed Otters, Giant Anteaters, Golden Lion Tamarins, and both Amur and Snow Leopards are visitor favorites. Bird fans flock to see the zoo’s Humboldt Penguins, Chilean Flamingos, and two walk-through aviaries.

The SB Zoo is ideally located overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The SB climate being what it is, means the zoo is pleasant any month of the year you want to visit. It isn't the largest of zoos but has a good variety of animals and...More

This is a smaller zoo that is impeccably maintained with lots of interactive things for kids to do. Adults without kids would also enjoy spending several hours here in this ocean adjacent location.

I’ve been going to this zoo for as long as I can remember. I’ve always loved it. It’s a smaller zoo but is absolutely worth the trip. Absolutely can spend an entire afternoon for most people, or longer. They do a great job with exhibits...More

So grandma and grandpa decided to drive down and take the grandkids to the Santa Barbara Zoo for a day visit. For a zoo, it is on the small side which was fine for the attention span of a 2 and 4 year old. However,...More
