Best value for money in NZ
Visiting from Australia for 2 weeks. Contacted Brian on the 26-05-21to book a half day tour of Wellington and upper and lower Hutt area. Quick reply on line and gave a full explanation of the next days tour. Unfortunately for Brian he only had 2 bookings but luckily for us he went ahead with a smaller vehicle. He was a real local and made us feel welcome straight away. If you are visiting Wellington do not miss this tour. Leaves the Hop on Hop off for dead. Very reasonable price and great local knowledge. Thanks again Brian. Rob and Lisa Newton

          One for the memory books
Talk of the Town tours is family owned and run. Brian is the owner and is the greatest tour guide around. I was reading some previous reviews and they were spot on with ours. 4 of us, so Brian gave us a full day tour and we did get a photo stop by the Penguin Crossing Road signs. In fact, he stopped any where we asked, even ran into a grocery store for a second. Stopped near the beach for an outside patio lunch, Brian ate with us. This was the most memorable tour we took on New Zealand and the only one I am reviewing, because of Brian's above and beyond the call of duty. This tour company is a must!

More than what you pay for!
Brian met us at the cruise ship and there was only one other couple. So he drove us around for the entire day, not a half day! He showed us so much and let us stop for pictures. His timing at our stops was perfect, and he was pleasant and knowledgeable. Great day, great guide, great tour.

          An amazing outing
My husband and I had a fabulous day touring around Wellington with Brian. We were so grateful that he did the tour since there were only 4 of us. It actually made everything more personal. We even did an impromptu lunch on the beach and a stop by the WETA studios gift shop. The only thing we didn't get... and teased Brian about.... was a photo of the Penguin Crossing road signs by the beaches. We'll be looking for that photo in his Trip Advisor listing now. :) I HIGHLY recommend this tour.

          Great Trip
We enjoyed our day with Brian so much. He was very knowledgeable of Wellington as well as the valley area. Made a nice lunch stop and then a stop at the beautiful Botanical Gardens. Was such a nice day. Woody and Miki Martin

          Great Site Seeing Tour
We thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent with Brian looking at the different sites throughout Wellington. Brian was prompt in picking us up at the ship port, and very accommodating as far as stopping when we wanted to take pictures, etc. We went to many areas of Wellington during the 6-hour tour, which included several bays and lookout points. The tour was capped off by taking a trip on the Wellington Cable Car and a brief visit to the Wellington Botantical Gardens. As a travel advisor myself, I would highly recommend Brian and Talk of the Town Tours. Thank you, Brian!

An outstanding tour of Wellington and the wine region
The tour was outstanding. Our guide, Brian, was extremely knowledgable and gave a great tour of Wellington and then selected three fantastic wineries for tasting the local products. I highly recommend this tour.

          Great Tour of Wellington
Brian was a very informative, friendly and relaxed host taking us to both well known areas of Wellington, and some of the lesser known. Being able to view both Wellington and Lower Hutt gave us a great appreciation of the area. Would highly recommend Brian when visiting this region.

Getting to know my own home town
Thank you thank you thank you! I was a little dubious about going on a tour of my own hometown having lived here for almost 30 years. However I'm so glad I decided to take a break for the day and let 'Talk of the Town Tours' do all the hard work. Brian was a safe and steady driver, very knowledgeable about the local area and took us down roads never traveled before! I learnt lots of interesting facts, nothing was ever an issue and the day was flexible throughout. The wine tastings were topped off with an AMAZING platter lunch experience which was generously portioned and suited dietary requirements. Thank you Brian and team, I will be recommending visitors and locals alike!

Talk of the Town wine tour
I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. It had a range of experiences as well as the wine tour which made the day very enjoyable and informative. We stopped at the Kaitoke forest and saw where they had filmed Lord of the Rings which was in a very beautiful bush setting. The wineries were great and I enjoyed tasting the different varieties and experiencing a lovely platter lunch. I highly recommend this tour.

We've just had a fantastic day with Brian, our tour guide. He was very approachable and easy to talk with. Excellent knowledge of the area and went the extra mile to show off the Wellington region. He listened to our interests and changed plans to match our wants. We highly recommend this tour if you are looking for a more personal experience, rather than a large commercial operation. Brian is your guy...top notch fella.

I had a lovely day with Brian. Although I was the only one on the tour, Brian put me at ease. He was really informative. I tasted some lovely wines. The lunch platter at Poppies was very tasty. Brian is a great driver and shared his knowledge with an easy accessible manner. He also made a few stops at sites of interest including some that LOTR fans would like. The tour was very good value and there was no single supplement charge! Only downside was out with anyone's control. No wineries were shipping to UK till brexit gets sorted. Cannot recommend this tour highly enough. At more than 7 hours this was a great way to spend a day outside Wellington.

It was just my husband and I that travelled with Brian. The tour was awesome as it included lunch, visiting a beautiful regional park on the way to the vineyards and a great mix of wineries. We had lunch at Colombo, the pizzas and cheeseboard was absolutely delicious. Brian’s knowledge and friendliness made it a great day and we would definitely recommend this tour to anyone.
Thanks Brian for a great day.

Had the most wonderful day with Brian. We were picked up promptly from our hotel and shown round the city before being driven out, via several places of interest and beauty, to the vineyards. We sampled a variety of wines and shared a delicious lunch(accompanied by a delightful bottle of wine) before continuing on to 2 more wineries.
The rest of the day was filled with more fascinating stops before being dropped back at our hotel.
This is a tour not to be missed. Brian proved to be an exemplary driver, tour guide and companion.
Thanks for a terrific day Brian. You've given us some wonderful memories. Very best wishes. Jen, Phill, Hannah and Baz. January 2020.

OMG - Brian’s tour was the best wine tour I’ve ever been on. He was friendly, informative and couldn’t do enough to make us feel welcome and special. Our lunch at Colombo was delicious, easily the best pizza I’ve eaten this year!
Thanks Brian, we will be including a tour with you for our next Wellington adventure!

Brian is a life long resident of the area and was a rich source of information. We stopped at a state park where the village of Rivendell in Lord of the Rings was filmed. The set was mostly gone but there were photos from the movie available. We visited 3 wineries for tastings with stops at magnificent viewpoints along the way. Lots of fun with a small group.

My wife, Linda, and I had the great pleasure of joining Brian on his all-day wine tour this week. A Wellingtonian, Brian showed us many other highlights to and from the wineries. This included magnificent vistas, a walk across a swinging bridge, feeding eels and many locations used in the filming of the Lord of the Rings movies. A fantastic lunch platter at an exquisite winery and tasting at 2 more wineries were most enjoyable. On our return trip, Brian also included visits to small towns and beautiful seashore bays. What a wonderful day! On a scale of 1 to 10, we rate Brian and his tour a 15. Forget the big bus tours, people. Take this private van and enjoy the small group experience with an excellent, friendly and informative guide! It is our distinct pleasure to highly recommend this tour.

Brian met us at our hotel and as we were a smaller party (three), he used his smaller truck which added to the ambiance and atmosphere of the tour. Brian proved very knowledgable and took us on a number of side trips (ie: Rivendell) and stops (Paua World) based on our interests. Lunch was excellent as well. When asked, Brian was up front and explained how he selected the specific wineries for his tour. Well, he nailed it! Excellent selections....we really enjoyed the visits and were happy to make our purchases and bring them back. Brian seemed truly interested in our feedback on the wines and frequently asked our opinion. All in all - one of the best tours of this type we've ever experienced. I would very highly recommend it to anyone and if we are back in that part of the world...wouldn't hesitate to repeat this activity - or any other one where Brian was hosting. Treat yourself and sign up for this tour if you get a chance!

7 girls had a fab day out with Brian who was very informative, kind, accommodating & a great host.
We loved our day out. The 3 vineyards were fab. The pizza & cheese platters were yummy at Columbos washed down with very generous tasters of delcious wine. Enjoyed a bit of retail therapy in cute little Greytown & coffee at beautiful White Swan. Did a few stops in the way.
Loved the wines & gin and we went home with a fair bit of plonk and helped the country's post covid recovery!
        Highly recommend!

A lovely full day. Brian Lines' Talk of the Town small (about 1-9 persons) is fabulous. He's a Wellington native so able to customize the tour to individual interests. The 3 wineries where we tasted were delightful with a varied and delicious lunch platter at Poppies! Took peppered Havarti cheese and a lovely Pinot Gris back to the ship to share! Highly recommended. 😁👍
