Take advantage of your next port stop in Juneau and embark on a 2-hour whale-watching cruise. Board a bus to Auke Bay from the Mt Roberts Tramway. Upon arrival at the bay, step aboard a jet boat that accommodates a max of 30 passengers, meaning you’ll have space to enjoy unobstructed views. Thirsty or hungry? Soft drinks, water, hot chocolate and coffee are available, as well as snacks including locally caught Alaskan salmon spread on bagels.

Pick up some binoculars (provided), as your captain navigates the boat into Saginaw Channel, Stephens Passage, Favorite Channel and Lynn Canal. Thanks to the growing whale population in Juneau, rest assured you’ll see whales in these waters. Keep your eyes peeled for breaching whales, females with their young and pods on the search for prey. Your naturalist guide on board shares facts about the local geology and the wildlife you see, including bald eagles and seal lions.

At the end of the cruise, transport takes you back to the Mt Roberts Tramway.

Depends on the time of year. Alaska has very short days in winter, but by spring and summer it stays light out quite late.
