About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Mobile8211780 contributionsSwim with turtlesVery skilled and confident operator. However too many people in the trip I spent more time watching that a didn’t get kicked in the body or face by fins. But saw 2 turtles! Was an experience swimming in the passage so worth the crowd. I would suggest the company cap numbers to 10-15 Otherwise enjoyed it very much.Written 14 January 2025
- Sjm_nz0 contributionsNice swim with the turtlesGreat couple of hours spent with Tee and the team. Saw plenty of turtles and eagle rays. The briefing for the snorkel and movement around the passage was good. The equipment for use was also good. Thanks!Written 10 January 2025
- Nomad121344109980 contributionsFantastic experienceSnorkel Cook Islands ----- Fantastic experience. From the detailed safety information given, to what the group was going to experience in the Lagoon and the correct way to use a mask & flippers was great. I felt totally safe the entire time. (I would loved to have taken home your sand map of the reef though) 😆 If you have your own water shoes bring them otherwise their is plenty of equipment available. After the first five minutes snorkeling I was starting to think turtle's mmm.. but then you saw these free swimming creatures appearing from everywhere, more than I could count. Unbelievable :) To finish my afternoon snorkel I was lucky to find myself amongst seven eagle rays that just appeared from the depths ending a perfect experience. Well worth the money and definitely will be a repeat customer Tour guide "T" and all his staff -- 10/10 Two thumbs up guys 👍 👌Written 10 January 2025
- marksL3180PW0 contributionsThe Highlight of Our Trip to RarotongaThis was a great experience. T was very clear with instructions, and we felt very safe throughout the entire trip. Our resort did not recommend this operator, but the Trip Advisor reviews were great, so we went with that. Glad we did. We got to see plenty of Turtles and Eagle Rays. Highly recommend this operator!Written 9 January 2025

- br0zie0 contributionsGreat experience but murky/clouded watersAlthough the weather & water conditions were not as clear as we would have wanted , it was a great experience. T & the crew did a great job although we thought the ratio between customers & team was too high 37 customers to 5-6 crew. At times we felt unwatched & on our own. As water was murky we didn't see the 'Rays' & only limited Turtles - would love to go again on a clearer day & less customers , cheers MarkWritten 5 January 2025
- jenu20180 contributionsAmazing time with an awesome teamKia orana team, Thank you, thank you thank you for being outstanding 5* hosts and making my whanau have the most amazing time and taking away unforgettable memories. I especially want to thank the amazing / awesome team member who took special care of our moko who is not a confident swimmer in the ocean, she came home with the biggest smile and had the time of her life. The rest of our whanau spoke highly of you all, your love for the ocean, and it's inhabitants, the care you took, the knowledge and stories you shared and the suggestion of a later timslot was perfect for them all. Our whanau came with you last year and had a blast but said this excursion was 5*** We highly recommend Snorkle Cook Islands and do the later tour if offered Meitaki Ma'ata Jen & whanau Show quoted textWritten 5 January 2025

- Psh20200 contributionsGo - Snorkel Cook Islands... You rock! Our kids bought us a turtle tour for Xmas and we went out yesterday and had an absolute blast. One of the first messages was to protect the marine life and not touch anything. This message was repeated several times and was adhered to by all in the group. There was only 8 people (incl two children) in our group (from 4 separate families) and two lifeguards, the water was warm, calm and the hosts were fantastic, T was very funny and most of all kept us in a close group and safety was his top priority ensuring he knew everyone's capability before we set off and continued to check in with everyone throughout the tour. He towed the little girl in a life ring most of the way round. He pointed out the usual marine life and educating us all on the marine life too. This was no way inferior of an experience than we have had with other operators and we even got some gopro pictures taken too.. Bonus as we didn't take a camera this time. Well done snorkel cook islands for making another memorable trip in the passage and for the food afterwards too.Written 24 December 2024
- 944moanak0 contributionsBlessed to be apart of this awesome crewMy 3 kids attended this morning and walked away with amazing stories and memories. Ropati got the ball rolling by welcoming our small group, then the man himself Tee rocked up with bells and whistles. Definitely the right man for this tour, laid back but very informative. This family trip was all about our kids remembering everything and this definitely topped it 💯. Finished off with fruit and a debrief with more recommendation's around the island. Meitaki korereka to the boys and everyone behind the scenes, excited to see the pics/footage from the go pro. Highly recommendWritten 23 December 2024
- Kezia160 contributionsOne of the highlights of a holiday in Rarotonga - don't miss itAbsolutely magical experience with the Snorkel Cook Islands crew. I found out about them through word-of-mouth (via other tour guides) and I'm so pleased I booked with them. We saw tons of turtles, many close enough to touch (but I didn't touch; you're not supposed to). I was also thrilled to see a squadron of eagle rays (stunning) and many gorgeous tropical fish. Our tour guides were terrific - they really shared the love of all these magnificent creatures, and made us feel totally safe the whole time, no matter what skill level. Recommend this tour wholeheartedly.Written 23 December 2024
- 53rashmir0 contributionsAn Amazing Turtle Tour with T and Tara!My turtle tour with T and Tara was an unforgettable experience. I’m a little nervous around ocean water, but T was incredibly reassuring and made me feel completely safe. Both T and Tara gave clear instructions on how to snorkel safely, which made the whole experience enjoyable and stress-free. The tour ended on a sweet note with fresh-cut watermelon and island bananas—such a thoughtful touch! Oh, and how could I forget to mention that T is absolutely hilarious? His humor added so much fun to the adventure. If you’re looking for a mix of laughter, stunning marine life, and warm island hospitality, this tour is a must!Written 22 December 2024
- Janey19290 contributionsDangerous, stay away. While the snorkel Cook Islands staff were friendly and did a safety talk prior to the start, the currents we encountered in the passage were very strong and in my opinion quite dangerous, I do not think the risks were adequately explained. In the tour I feared for my safety as I battled to swim out of the current, I have never felt so scared and I am a competent swimmer and pretty much grew up at the beaches of Australia. I have never experienced such currents, the danger cannot be understated . I would urge you to do your own internet search into the safety of swimming in the ( in my view) very dangerous Avaavaroa Passage. I wish I had done so and been more informed of the risks prior to the tour, I never would have participated. I don’t think seeing the turtles outweighs the potential dangers, there are other safe places in Rarotonga lagoon to see turtles like Muri and Aroa beaches. Play it safe people, lives are precious!Written 20 December 2024

We chose Snorkel Cook Islands because of its 5star rating and emphasis on safety. My partner is not a strong swimmer but agreed to join the SCI tour when he learned that all of guides have life-guard training, groups are small and the ratio of guides to snorkelers is excellent (one guide to 2 or 3 guests). Josh and his team knew where to find turtles, morays and a huge variety of reef fish. They were knowledgeable and caring about both the marine and island environment. And a lot of fun. We would highly recommend this tour for both experienced and less experienced snorkelers. A highlight of our Raro adventure.

This review seriously made our day - meitaki maata!
We care so much for the safety of our guests, which is why we only take small groups (Max 6) on our Semi-Private Snorkel Tour. By keeping the number of guests per group low, not only does this allow a chance for us to get to know our guests, we're able to ensure if anyone needs help we're close by. Whether you're a seasoned snorkeler or a newbie, safety of our guests is mutual. We want everyone to be having fun, feel comfortable in our care and be having an excellent time as you and your partner did!
Our number one priority is safety of you, our second priority is respecting the environment we work, play and live in. We have grown up in these waters and strongly believe by sharing our knowledge it gives our guests a new found appreciation for sea life and respect for the ocean. From big things like knowing how currents move, to small things like how our Cook Island people love to eat matū rori (Sea slug) We love sharing our knowledge, and are happy you appreciated that too!
We're so glad you had a good experience! Next time you're here, join us on a Private Snorkel Tour. With a Maximum of 3 guests, it's a truly exclusive experience.

This was the absolute highlight of our trip and I would highly recommend Josh and Snorkel Cook Islands to anyone who wants to experience swimming with the eagle rays and green turtles. We did the private dawn snorkel trip with our 10 year old and it was magical. The wildlife is waking up and the turtles spent a lot of time at the surface and were relaxed and were up close and personal. Josh is super safety conscious (train d life guard) and is a wealth of knowledge about what lives in the reef. The private tour is worth every dollar for a safe and personalised trip and we felt super safe taking our daughter out in the channel. I love how Josh and his company show respect for the environment and educate their visitors about using reef safe sun screen and how to show respect for the wildlife. I’d highly recommend the private tour to couples and families.

We're overjoyed to hear that our snorkeling trip was the absolute highlight of your trip! 🌟
It sounds like your private dawn snorkel experience with Josh was truly magical, especially swimming with the eagle rays and green turtles. 🐢 The wildlife waking up and being up close and personal with the turtles must have been an unforgettable experience!
Safety is always our top priority, and we're glad you felt super safe and well taken care of, especially with your daughter along. 👨👩👧 Josh's expertise as a trained lifeguard definitely adds an extra layer of assurance.
We're thrilled that you appreciated our commitment to environmental respect and education. 🌊 Promoting reef-safe sunscreen and educating visitors about wildlife respect are important aspects of our mission.
Thank you so much for recommending us, and we'd love to welcome you, your family, and anyone else interested in a personalized and safe snorkeling experience in the future! 😊🏝️

I have been out with snorkel Cook Islands a few times. This is my absolute favourite activity to do while in Raro. The first time we went, we were all a bit nervous, swimming in the channel that our mother had been taught not to swim in as a child. We were nervous, but we took mum out to celebrate her 65th birthday, Wow! That was a way to celebrate.
The team were fantastic, making sure mum was confident, they were clear with their safety instructions. Assuring us that, we were safe, letting us enjoy the experience!
We were treated to turtles, eagle rays, eels! Did I say TURTLES! The conditions were fantastic!
Mum had the best day ever.
A few months later we went out again, celebrating my friend Grant's 40th birthday. Again we had a range of swimmers, the confidence levels varied and again the team looked after each swimmer, making sure everyone got the best out of this experience.
Grant enjoyed this so much, we went out again a few days later! This time we took mum out again. Again we were treated to something spectacular!
The conditions were calm. So they took us outside of the reef!!! Another first for my mum, who grew up in Rarotonga.
Thank you snorkel Cook islands for sharing the turtles with us. Thanks for showing us how to be safe and enjoy the ocean and its glory.
I will definitely do this again when I'm back! Mum will be there, she wouldn't miss it for the world!

Kia orana Kaz and MEITAKI MAATA for making the time to write us such an incredible review. This really has seriously made our day!!
We absolutely loved hosting you and mum for your first experience in our playground. It’s amazing what you can discover in your own backyard. We’re so so glad you both had the best time and trusted us to show you how best to enjoy the ocean and all her wonders.
Helping Grant celebrate his 40th birthday and enjoy his first swim in 20 years was an absolute honor and huge pleasure to treat you all to something new - swimming beyond the reef! We only do this when conditions are their best, and we’re so glad you enjoyed this unique experience! We thoroughly enjoyed hosting you.
We hope you’re all well and taking care, please join us again soon! Meitaki maata e Kia manuia

A gorgeous start to the day, we had 3+ hours with Josh & his team exploring one of the many reef passages. Full of marine life we saw an abundance of tropical fish, eagle rays, a moray eel, and as we had hoped, sooo many turtles!!
With a small group we all had plenty of space and time to explore while the team pointed out what was around us. They provide all of the snorkeling equipment (including reef-friendly sunscreen) a delicious fresh fruit brekky after you finish and pick up/drop off straight to your door.
This is a truly magical experience and a highlight of our trip to Rarotonga. Highly recommend this eco-friendly reef tour with Snorkel Cook islands!

We had an amazing time with Snorkel Cook Islands! They picked us up from our accommodation, drove us to a beautiful beach, provided reef-safe sunscreen and gave us great snorkel equipment.
We saw more turtles than we could count and we even saw some gorgeous eagle rays, blue starfish, a moray eel and lots of fish. After a lot of swimming, we were served organic fresh fruits and delicious coconuts to drink.
All the guys are qualified lifeguards so even if you aren’t that comfortable in the water you will feel very safe. We also loved that they only bring small groups of people out.
We had a great day and we can truly recommend going with Snorkel Cook Islands on a snorkelling tour!

Kia orana Victoria and Alex! Meitaki maata for leaving us a review from all the way in Copenhagen. We absolutely loved hosting you both during a REEF TOUR and are glad you had an incredible time with us too!
We do our best to minimize our impact on the environment we work, live and play in. It’s important to us to keep eco-ethical practices, so that we can enjoy the ocean and reef in a respectful way. We do this by providing Reef-Friendly sunscreen, offering transport to decrease amount of active vehicles on the road, host only small groups, and provide seasonal fruit that has been grown locally.
We take huge pride in hosting tours for guests that have never experienced the reef the way we do everyday. Seeing all the wild life underwater is truly unique, and we’re thrilled you enjoyed every bit of your experience with us.
Hope you’re both keeping well and safe, please return to paradise soon! Meitaki maata

Great bunch of young local guys have put this experience together. The gear and instruction os first rate and this can make all the difference - badly fitted or adjusted filpers and masks can make snorkelling a chore, but not with these guys.
The water was crystal clear in places and we got to see tropical fish and quite a few turtles. The whole day was smooth and enyable. Hope the surfs up for you, fellas (their other passion).

Meitaki Andrew, what a seriously great review you've left us!
We're so glad you had a great experience with our team - the boys really enjoy showing guests the playground they grew up in, and take such good care to make sure everyone is fitted in their gear properly. We'll be sure to let them know how much you enjoyed their guidance!
The best part of our "job" is showing our guests exactly how wonderful it is underwater; it brings us so much joy to see an abundance of sea life and our guests enjoying it just as much. The fact that we can do this everyday is a blessing in itself.
We hope you'll join us again soon, in the mean time - surf's on!

Absolutely amazing! Was picked up from my resort, taken to a lovely spot for the snorkel tour. Safety was paramount, as well as ensuring that the equipment was properly fitted. A plan was made as to where we were going to go so there were no surprises. I was lucky enough to be on a private tour and we were the only ones heading out to the turtles. As I am not a strong swimmer, there were continual check in’s as to how I was going, which gave a sense of confidence that I was in safe hands. Once out near the coral and fish, it was just beautiful. As soon as I saw my first turtle, all my nerves vanished and I was completely memorised. After returning to the beach, there was fresh coconut to drink as well as ample gorgeous fresh fruit. I cannot recommend this snorkel adventure highly enough and I am certainly going to book another one!

This was the highlight of our trip for sure! The team was so awesome and so friendly, they even provided us with local recommendation and some fresh fruit when we stopped in a couple days later! They went above and beyond to reassure a member of our tour who isn’t familiar with swimming in the ocean so we felt safe and looked after the whole time. 10/10 banter and some awesome pictures and footage from a once in a lifetime experience. Highly recommend.

The best snorkel tour on the island! I did the reef snorkel tour with my sister today and loved it! Josh and his team are friendly and knowledgeable. Their team have a real focus on safety so our morning began with a quick location move to a calmer passage. What a morning! The sun was shining, and the marine life were plentiful.
Josh and his team made sure that everyone was seeing the beautiful sights of the reef, taking the time to stop and point out what we should be looking at. Giant turtles, eagle rays, moray eels, trigger fish, so many fish!
With a small group of nine people, we were all able to float about and take our time to snorkel and see the magic of the reef.
Thank you Snorkel Cook Islands! The best tour on Raro!

Ohh my days - what an experience. Josh took us out on possibly the worst weather day we have seen in our travels to Raro we ended up going to another site and he was correct it doesn't rain underwater.
My wife is nervous in the ocean and josh got us out to the drop off well beyond the lagoon. We both felt very comfortable with josh and he clearly has a great deal of experience in this field as my wife felt safe and experienced a huge array of wildlife that i haven't seen in my time as a diver.
We saw sharks, rays, turtles and moray eels along with a huge array of fishlife.
if you can, get a private tour with josh - we still haven't stopped talking about our experience.
I recommend you do this even if you are a little nervous of the sea as josh will help you and you will come away much more confident, my wife is now talking about doing a PADI course

The best way to book this tour is to Facebook message Josh and his team. Just search Snorkel Cook Islands on Facebook. We did the tour 2 days ago it is amazing!

On our reef snorkelling tours we just about guarantee you will see a turtle. We haven't missed since we started operating. However it is mother nature and anything can happen. If you don't see one on the day you join us you can come snorkel again at no cost.
