      Enjoy the Night Creatures
This was our first tour on arrival to la Fortuna. I loved following our very knowledgeable guide, searching with flashlights for wildlife. We saw many tiny frogs, spiders, bats, caymans and a two-toed sloth with her three month old baby! We passed through the butterfly enclosure but all the occupants were sleeping since this was a nite tour. We saw a small white headed snake and several large millipedes. Enjoyed this tour very much!

      Way overpriced for experience
Night tour, very blahhh, long, boring and way overpriced. Very little to see, few frogs, a sleeping bird, and a couple small caymans. Maybe daytime would be better

      Fun experience!
We toured with Melvin and had a wonderful time looking at all of Costa Rica's key types of wildlife. He was very accommodating of our young kids (2 and 4) and helped them view many animals through a phone camera looking into his binoculars. The 1.5 hour daytime tour was completely worth both the time and money.

      Nighttime tour!
We did a nighttime tour with Melvin, who was incredibly patient and knowledgeable. We saw a number of animals on our CR wish list including red eye frogs, caymans, sloths and butterflies. We were especially impressed with the butterfly exhibiti where we saw caterpillars, pupae and then the evolution to butterflies. We loved the nighttime tour and the ability to see animals that we wouldn’t normally see during the day. Melvin showed us lots of insects and other animals we would never have noticed on our own. We were traveling with a guest in a scooter and the gravel path was a challenge, so be warned if you have any mobility issues. But, we loved the fact that this center was a nature center geared towards the development of animals in their natural habitat and that there are no barriers keeping any of them on the property. Would highly recommend!

      Frogs!!!
This was an excellent guided tour. The wildlife preserve was small, but packed with lots of wildlife - frogs, birds, insects, butterflies, sloths etc. Melbin was a great guide, and spotted a lot of wildlife.

      EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE!
This was an EXCELLENT experience! We saw a sloth, spiders, lizards, butterflies, lots of different species of frogs & more! Melvin was our tour guide for the evening, he was very knowledgeable about the history and all the wildlife! He was very friendly and we enjoyed our tour with him! Melvin also took amazing photos of the animals for us on our phones! Our family was the only group there so we basically got a private tour. I highly recommend! The health and safety of the animals is always my #1 concern before doing any tours. The animals are in the wild, they come and goes as they please, they are safe & protected here!

Best night tour for nocturnal animals!
This is the tour you want to see if you want to see nocturnal animals in their habitat! Saw so many frogs and reptiles. The tour guide is knowledgeable and spots things you will not at first. Thank you again!

      nice easy tour
We enjoyed this night tour. We were part of a small group, 6 in total. The park is very small and so the animals are concentrated. You don't walk far and you see quite a bit. It had been raining so we saw frogs, toads, no caiman, some lizards, bugs and butterflies. The guide was friendly and knew enough.

      Magical experience featuring uncaged wildlife
This was an incredible tour through a private rainforest, meaning the animals are living there by choice, “in the wild” rather than in cages. We saw 3 sloths, many toucans, an agouti, red-eyed tree frogs, dart frogs, butterflies, a cayman, and more. It was a fraction of the cost of other experiences with caged animals, which isn’t what we wanted, and it supports an independent conservation effort by locals. Great value, and would highly recommend.

      Beautiful location
Filled with beauty on every turn. Birds, butterflies, reptiles, sloth. It is wonderful to meander along the trails and see what you can spot along the way. Beautifully maintained. Wish we would have time to come back for a night tour. We did those in a couple of other locations in Costa RIca, and I have really come to appreciate those. Doing a night tour at this location must be spectacular.

      Sloths and frogs
We had originally scheduled the night hike for 6:30. They moved us to 5:30 a few days before, which worked out well. They put some bananas out when we got there and several birds flew in to eat the fruit. I'm not sure we would have seen them at 6:30. There were 5 people on our hike with Joe. There was another small group on a separate hike but we didn't see much of them. We saw poison dart frogs, a red eyed tree frog, some other toads and frogs and some insects. We also saw a heron on a nest. The largest animals we saw were some sloths (two 3-toed and a 2-toed with a baby).

      So great! The real deal!
Careful about some of the other places that capture animals and force them on display for tourists. They are not a good thing to support as a responsible tourist. We took a group of 30 students here to this legit eco preserve and saw sloths, caymans, many types of frogs and birds and even ate termites! The guides were so knowledgeable!

Brilliant Nightime Adventure - Thank you Walter!
We had an amazing time with Walter who was so welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. We saw everything from Red Eyed Tree Frogs, Poison Dart Frogs, Glass Frogs, Butterflies, Leaf Cutter Ants, a number of bugs (from a safe distance!) and finally a Whip Snake! We're not the best with spiders but this really wasn't a problem and we had a great time hunting around in the forest by torchlight - great fun, great guide, highly recommended.

I had read reviews & selected Ecocentro Danaus because it offered so much - and it delivered! Not only did was our guide thoughtful & informative, but the propery provided great views of flora & fauna - as well as a brief presentation by an indigenous person from Costa Rica. We particularly enjoyed that as well as the butterfly area. Amazing photos will help us remember this wonderful place.

This is a lovely haven of nature and wildlife where you can spend a few hours. I did an excellent guided tour and was shown many new birds, lizards and even a caiman! It was very quiet and peaceful with hardly anyone around and a wonderful, very active bird feeder with a huge variety of birds. A great way half-day destination while in Arenal.

A great tour. We did a private tour and our guide (Joe I think) was really knowledgeable, great at spotting the wildlife and very good with our young child! Saw 4 sloths (including a baby and a young one) toucans, Jesus lizard, 2 cayman, a frog and lots of butterflies. The place itself is well run and was quite quiet when we were there. I’d really recommend it - wasn’t commercialised and seemed to be genuinely about protecting the wildlife.

This is a very unique place. We saw sloths, owls, birds, lizards, and a snake - all in their wild/natural environment. The guides are very friendly and informative. Even after our tour they went far out of the way to help schedule a tour at another facility. I would recommend this experience to any family or friends who visit Fortuna. Thank you all.

My family and I went to La Fortuna with plans to climb the nearby mountains, however our plans were cancelled due to harsh weather conditions, but we were very happy with our experience at the Ecocentro Danaus. When we arrived at the car park, there was already a sloth in a nearby tree at ground level, apparently a rare occurrence, and booked a guided tour shortly after. I would highly recommend the guided tour as our experience would not have been the same without Mayron (our guide); he knew a vast amount of facts about the surrounding wildlife, his enthusiasm was contagious and he had a much better eye for them than we did. Thanks to his guidance we were able to see toucans, howler monkeys, poison dart frogs and a boat-billed heron chick in its nest. The butterfly garden was an exceptional addition to the tour, which included numerous butterfly species and all the different stages of their life cycle. Truly one of the highlights of our time in La Fortuna and Costa Rica - highly recommend!

Melvin showed us around the reserve. With his help we got to see a lot of the animals we had hoped to spot and were allowed to use the scope to get great close up pictures with our smart phones. We almost had the reserve to to ourselves and spent 2 hours exploring and learning about the reserve and the animals.
    Highly recommended!

This was our first tour. We were the only ones on the tour with our guide. Before we even got the Butterfly garden our guide spotted a red poison dart frog, a wood thrush, a Mot Mot AND a Mama Sloth with a baby!!! We got some amazing pics with our guide's scope. I could see everything with my binoculars, but the scope of the guide was amazing. Then we got to the Butterfly Garden which was lovely. Got great pics. Our guide was super knowledgeable about all the species we were seeing and we definitely got a good education while on the tour. I felt so lucky we got to see so much on our first tour!
