Wonderful Place full of Beautiful Sights
This was our first tour. We were the only ones on the tour with our guide. Before we even got the Butterfly garden our guide spotted a red poison dart frog, a wood thrush, a Mot Mot AND a Mama Sloth with a baby!!! We got some amazing pics with our guide's scope. I could see everything with my binoculars, but the scope of the guide was amazing. Then we got to the Butterfly Garden which was lovely. Got great pics. Our guide was super knowledgeable about all the species we were seeing and we definitely got a good education while on the tour. I felt so lucky we got to see so much on our first tour!

      Great tour!
The tour guide was very good, very detailed and very patient. He'll take pictures for us. At the end of the journey, sweet fresh fruit is served!

      Way overpriced for experience
Night tour, very blahhh, long, boring and way overpriced. Very little to see, few frogs, a sleeping bird, and a couple small caymans. Maybe daytime would be better

      Peaceful haven for wildlife
This is a lovely haven of nature and wildlife where you can spend a few hours. I did an excellent guided tour and was shown many new birds, lizards and even a caiman! It was very quiet and peaceful with hardly anyone around and a wonderful, very active bird feeder with a huge variety of birds. A great way half-day destination while in Arenal.

      Great Tour for Family
I had read reviews & selected Ecocentro Danaus because it offered so much - and it delivered! Not only did was our guide thoughtful & informative, but the propery provided great views of flora & fauna - as well as a brief presentation by an indigenous person from Costa Rica. We particularly enjoyed that as well as the butterfly area. Amazing photos will help us remember this wonderful place.

      Eco forest trek
Guided walk of an eco project restoration forest. Saw a sloth, cayman and many birds, butterfly farm and tropical plant collection. Guide extremely informative, lovely welcome service, easy walk on gravel paths, highly recommended.

      Fun experience!
We toured with Melvin and had a wonderful time looking at all of Costa Rica's key types of wildlife. He was very accommodating of our young kids (2 and 4) and helped them view many animals through a phone camera looking into his binoculars. The 1.5 hour daytime tour was completely worth both the time and money.

      Highly recommend this tour!
A great tour. We did a private tour and our guide (Joe I think) was really knowledgeable, great at spotting the wildlife and very good with our young child! Saw 4 sloths (including a baby and a young one) toucans, Jesus lizard, 2 cayman, a frog and lots of butterflies. The place itself is well run and was quite quiet when we were there. I’d really recommend it - wasn’t commercialised and seemed to be genuinely about protecting the wildlife.

      Beautiful location
Filled with beauty on every turn. Birds, butterflies, reptiles, sloth. It is wonderful to meander along the trails and see what you can spot along the way. Beautifully maintained. Wish we would have time to come back for a night tour. We did those in a couple of other locations in Costa RIca, and I have really come to appreciate those. Doing a night tour at this location must be spectacular.

      Great Experience!
We had a private tour guided by Elias. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions about the animals and plants. He took some great pictures for us through the scope he uses and found animals we could not possibly have seen without his guidance. This is a small place but we saw more flora and fauna than we did at some larger places. Elias also told us about the history of the center and his involvement (he has worked there a long time in various capacities) while we ended the tour with a fruit plate. Unlike some of the other wildlife centers, it was not crowded and the tour unhurried. We did get a little lost on our way there from the town so I would recommend that they post a sign at the turn-off. Waze was not helpful so we asked a local man along the road and he was able to point us in the right direction. It was a high point of our visit to La Fortuna!

Elias! Elias is the best guide ever! He is so knowledgable and engaging. He held the attention of everyone in our group, ages 6-70! We saw so many sloths, birds, frogs, caiman, and butterflies. It was the best tour we experienced! Well worth it!

      A must in La Fortuna
We choose Ecocentro Danaus since it was suggested by our lonely planet and it was a really good choice! Our guide was very friendly and gave us a lot of information about the center and the animals that live inside the protected area. We were able to see a variety of birds (the guide was equipped with a monoscope), sloths, caimans, and butterflies. Really recommended.

      Five-Star Tour!
This place is amazing! Here's what makes the experience at Ecocentro Danaus so different from other rain forest tours. First, this is a small nature preserve surrounded by fields. It's as if the wildlife here is on a small island. Even though they are in the wild and free to leave, they stay and make their homes in this area. So you are able to see an abundance of wildlife without having to walk long distances between sightings. We saw a two-toed sloth with a baby, a three-toed sloth, blue-jean frog, leaf-cutter ants, basilisk, herons, beautiful butterflies, spectacled owl, migratory songbirds (we visited in December), and many other birds (we heard a toucan, but never saw him). Second, the trail is short and relatively level. We visited another park not far from here, and the trail was long and very steep in places -- not good for those who are somewhat "out of shape"! But Ecocentro Danaus was perfect! Third, our guide, Elias, is a professional naturalist. And he is amazing! He knew every flora and fauna -- identification, habits, best place to find -- and he was happy to answer every question we had. And he spoke perfect English! Our group was only four people, so Elias took time to allow each of us to look through his telescopic viewer. He would spot something (I would never have found any animals on my own), and set up his viewer on the animal, usually high in the trees. He even held our cellphone cameras to the telescope and took photos for us -- the best closeup photos ever! He has a light pointer that he used to "spot" the animals for the rest of us while one would be looking through the viewer. I don't know about the other guides, but I highly, highly recommend this bright, friendly and knowledgeable young man, Elias. Fourth, I used the phrase "took time" in the last paragraph, and that's another great asset to this attraction. Elias was never rushed, never impatient, never perturbed --- ALWAYS happy to explain and answer questions and make this experience the best for all of his guests. We took the day tour; I'm sure the night tour is even better since the animals are more active at night. This tour was five-star all the way!

We had an amazing time with Walter who was so welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. We saw everything from Red Eyed Tree Frogs, Poison Dart Frogs, Glass Frogs, Butterflies, Leaf Cutter Ants, a number of bugs (from a safe distance!) and finally a Whip Snake! We're not the best with spiders but this really wasn't a problem and we had a great time hunting around in the forest by torchlight - great fun, great guide, highly recommended.

We enjoyed this night tour. We were part of a small group, 6 in total. The park is very small and so the animals are concentrated. You don't walk far and you see quite a bit. It had been raining so we saw frogs, toads, no caiman, some lizards, bugs and butterflies. The guide was friendly and knew enough.

I loved how informative and accommodating the guides were. As for the business, I had 2 night tours not work out at the last minute, and I was determined to get one in before we left la fortuna. This tour booked me quickly. Our group was small, so we were able to see a lot, and have our questions answered. They were also very helpful with photos. Loved it soo much.

Careful about some of the other places that capture animals and force them on display for tourists. They are not a good thing to support as a responsible tourist. We took a group of 30 students here to this legit eco preserve and saw sloths, caymans, many types of frogs and birds and even ate termites! The guides were so knowledgeable!

The experience was exciting and new one for me. We were in a group of about 8 persons and the guide explained us in about two hours everything about the nightlife fauna. We saw many frogs, a sloth with baby, a snake, some butterflies but actually I was expecting to see more animals. I suggest to support the centre because they are selffinanced but I wish I had more suerte to seeing animals during the tour the tour!

Amazing night-time jungle walk discovering the secrets of the nocturnal forest. Frogs, spiders, lizards, sleeping butterflies, an opossum breaking into the butterfly enclosure to steal their fruit, sloths (underwhelming balls of fluff high up in the trees) by a wonderful guide Melvin.

We saw frogs (Narrow head tree frog, Bangs tree frog, Hour glass tree frog, Blue jeans frog, Red eyed tree frog), birds (Boat billed heron,Wood pecker), exotic flowers, sleeping butterflies (Morpho butterfly, Malachite, Owl butterfly, Blue moth and Crysallis) as well as a Possum and sloths (both Two toed sloth and Three toed sloth).

We also saw Crickets, Leaf cutter ants,Spiders, Jesus Christ lizard, and Small lizard.

Melvin the guide was very knowledgeable. He helped us take great photos of the animals and made sure each of us had good views and saw the animals. He had loads of battery replacements to ensure bright tor he’s for everyone!

Only downside is that they do not offer pick-up and drop-odd services!

We did the night tour. We were a group of 4 people and a guide, bringing interesting explanations. The reserve is small but this is not a reason for few animals! We saw 3 sloths, many frogs with very nice colors, butterflies, various insects, caimans (only the eyes in the dark)

This was our first tour on arrival to la Fortuna. I loved following our very knowledgeable guide, searching with flashlights for wildlife. We saw many tiny frogs, spiders, bats, caymans and a two-toed sloth with her three month old baby! We passed through the butterfly enclosure but all the occupants were sleeping since this was a nite tour. We saw a small white headed snake and several large millipedes. Enjoyed this tour very much!

We did a nighttime tour with Melvin, who was incredibly patient and knowledgeable. We saw a number of animals on our CR wish list including red eye frogs, caymans, sloths and butterflies. We were especially impressed with the butterfly exhibiti where we saw caterpillars, pupae and then the evolution to butterflies. We loved the nighttime tour and the ability to see animals that we wouldn’t normally see during the day. Melvin showed us lots of insects and other animals we would never have noticed on our own. We were traveling with a guest in a scooter and the gravel path was a challenge, so be warned if you have any mobility issues. But, we loved the fact that this center was a nature center geared towards the development of animals in their natural habitat and that there are no barriers keeping any of them on the property. Would highly recommend!
