Overview
Start your 3-hour late night food adventure from the Xintiandi area to the backstreets of former French Concession at 8:30pm. Taste over 20 local delicacies along the Hefei Road to the Zhaozhou Road where you can only discover in the late night since Shanghai has been cracking down most of the street vendors. Other than fun street food eating and local craft beer drinking, you will also learn about the history and culture of dynamic Shanghai city through your knowledgeable guide. All food tasting items can add up to more than enough for a full meal.
Highlights
  • Eat your way through the former French Concession after dark
  • Taste over 20 local street foods—enough for dinner—and savor craft beer
  • Follow in the footsteps of Anthony Bourdain with a local guide
  • Get a new perspective on Shanghai’s history, heritage, and culture
What to Expect
Greet your guide and group at a former French Concession subway station, and stroll towards the Xintiandi area. Your first stop will be a Uyghur restaurant for hand-pulled noodles, followed by a local eatery for the essential “xiaolongbao” soup dumplings. Continue to Zhaozhou Road street food bazaar, frequented by Anthony Bourdain, and see the border where French-style apartments give way to old stone “shikumen” houses. Try local dishes at three separate eateries as you learn how locals live and eat. Along the way, cleanse your palate with craft beer and enjoy your guide’s insights into Shanghai’s foodie culture and traditions. Your tour will finish in the former French Concession: Just ask your guide if you need directions to the subway or a taxi.

This was an excellent way to try different foods around Shanghai. Our group of 5 joined with 3 others and we all had a great time. Our guide and his American assistant were very knowledgeable and friendly. The only reason for 4 stars is how the tour ended—more assistance with

Dear Brian, I'm very sorry to hear that you were ripped off by the taxi driver. Friday night is usually busy to wave a taxi. Shanghai metro system runs until 1am from Friday and Saturday. Most popular lines such as line 1, 2, 10 (all close to the area we walked by) are still running by the end we finished. But your hotel is on line 13, which is a little far from the former French Concession area. I'll highly recommend you to download the DiDi app, the chinese equivalent of Uber, next time when you're here. They have english menu and start to accept foreign credit card recently. Unfortunately, taxi drivers are really bad in Shanghai. We apologize for that. We did try to get you a taxi, but failed. So we bring you to the proper place that people are waiting for taxis, where there is actually a police station close by. This was our mistake and problem of trusting drivers. I would like to thank you again for being open-minded to blend in this tour. Hope you still like Shanghai apart from a few flaw. Best, Jim Wang Jian

Really enjoyed this tour! My fiance and I went on this with our guide, Ming and one other guest. Loved being in a small group, meaning we got more time to talk with our guide. Ming was great - he knew the city and culture well, very personable and clearly excited to be there

My husband and I really enjoyed the variety of food/beverages/tea on this tour! Our guide Jim helped call us get a ride back to the hotel when we were finished. It was perfect and the later time slot that we met allowed us time to enjoy the city of Shanghai without being rushed!

Ming met our small group (3) at the metro and we were at our our first stop in minutes. Noodles and pork chop. Then desserts because the dessert shop closes early! Then a beer, then barbecue and dumplings. We finished with tea and bajo and pickled cucumber, and a couple of other

Highlights: You get to try a lot of dishes that you wouldn't on your own (particularly as a solo traveler) and get introduced to some cool parts of the Former French Concession Area. Lowlights: It's more expensive than what it is worth (food and guide combined doesn't justify

Dear Jessica, Thank you for taking your time to write this review. Hopefully you also liked all the cafe recommendations I shared through your email. I'm sorry that you had the impression of spending too much walking between the 1st and 2nd stops. In fact, it's only 13-15 mins. Most of the local restaurants especially good ones are small with limited food options. In Shanghai, those places never serve alcohol. Even they do, they might give us warm comercial lager beer like I explained to you earlier. No tissue, wet wipe or bathroom. We prepared oursleves as guides or bring you to a proper bar with better craft beer. We can visit big dinning restaurants. I think there are thousands of them in Shanghai and most of them will offer english menu easily. With a big book of menu, I'll be very skeptical about the quality and freshness. I'm very surprised you think it doesn't "justfy price". I was quite excited to have 7 people in the group that night, unlike regularly 1, 2 or 3 guests. More people, more stomachs, more budget for us to customize. Here are all the choices that night from 8:30-11:30pm: We had michelin listed noodle with 3 toppings, soup, 2 samples of craft beer, 10 kinds of late night barbecues, 5 samples of craft beer again, 4 kinds of dumplings, 8 homemade dishes(4 vege and 4 meat), 2 shots of local spirits, 3 kinds of tea(ginger, flower and chamomile) ,1 premium shot of chinese shery cask whisky, 4 kinds of chinese dessert, 5 kinds of seasonal fruit. These could also be all optional since every one has their own taste. Eat, drink and walk around is the same pace Chinese spend daily time back home and excercise in the public park. The tour description says it lasts 3 hours. I'm sorry that we ended around midnight since the group had a lot of fun and great chemistry. It was a great pleasure as a local show you around. Thank you again for choosing us. Best, Jim Wang Jian
