About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- ellenv3230 contributionsStuck with a non-English speaking driver and no guideOur experience was not so good. The advertisement promises a “Highly trained and friendly Storyteller/ Guide who can speak English & Hindi”. We got a driver who literally did not speak one word of English. So we lost a lot of time trying to find out why we didn’t have a guide and where we should be going. It turned out to be a fault in the organization of Yo Tours, this can happen. They tried to help over the phone but it was too late to save our day. Moreover, our request for a (partial) refund, was ridiculed. So double check what you get!Written 8 October 2024
- scotrokiwi9880 contributionsMountains, waterfalls, monkeys, goats and camelsPuja and Sultan picked us up from our Mumbai hotel. We had a great drive to Lonavala, even though it rained a lot. Sultan is such a great driver, so patient and kind and very capable! Puja is my soul sister! We connected on every level, and this made the jouney even more fun! Sadly it was raining and the clouds were very low, so our views at Tiger Point were hampered but this did not spoil our trip. We saw numerous beautiful waterfalls. We saw cows, and got held up by a huge herd of goats on the way and lots of monkeys. Even a camel! We stopped for chikki and guavas and shopped for pottery and i used my bargaining skills .. even Puja was impressed. 😁. Puja and Sultan feel much more like good friends to us now and we will miss them when we go home. Thanks to Sumir for arranging this trip for us at short notice. We highly recommend you use Magical Mumbai Tours when you come to India, you will not be disappointed!Written 26 September 2024

- M6687DBianc0 contributionsAvoid - YoToursAvoid - Yo Tours Booked an early morning 09.00am tour as we had another tour in the late afternoon. You Tours altered the start time after we were at the meeting point and expected us to wait 2 hrs for an alternative tour -They refused refund and just kept telling us it was due to cruise ships being in town -do not trust this company and book with a more reputable organization - it may cost a few dollars more but you get what you pay for in our case we got NOTHING for our money and Yo Tours ruined a day.Written 20 February 2024
- Jenny W0 contributionsA wonderful experience- beautiful placeDue to internet issues (Australians -Telstra doesn’t work in India!) the intended guide couldn’t contact me so I began the ferry ride without guide. The company, without my knowledge, arranged another guide who met me on the island, Avinash who was wonderful. Very knowledgeable (local to the island) and taught us a lot about the history and religion that we would not have learnt from reading the plaques. A beautiful experience.Written 30 November 2023

- RichardFree0 contributionsFood good; avoid the guide! We booked this tour from the Booking.com website. Subsequently, discovered that this then went through the Viator website and the tour was through Yo Tours. On the plus side I had expected that only small tasting dishes would be included and that we would have to pay to have a more substantial portion. In fact over the course of the tour we had enough for a full dinner. On the downside our guide, Nisar, wasted time and we could have experienced a greater variety as well as having more information about the food. Nisar took us to the old railway station and spent a lot of time talking about the building. Unfortunately, his information was completely wrong. He said that Queen Victoria had lived there (she never visited India!) and only after independence was the building converted to a station (it was always a station!). We had booked a walking tour of Mumbai for the following morning and our hearts sank when we discovered that it was also with Nisar.Written 18 April 2023

- jenniferwI104BA0 contributionsNot what we paid forHave just returned from this excursion but not all items were provided for the tour - hotel pick up was included. Getting to the island was fine and cold drinks were provided followed by an informative chat from our friendly and attentive guide. Despite saying Indian snacks would be provided, none were offered. We were then left at the island ferry port to come back on our own. When asked what was happening about the pre- paid taxi our guide said nothing he could do about it. We ended up having to pay again for a taxi on our return journey- an included and paid for item of our excursion. We could have done the trip on our own for a tenth of the price but chose the luxury option in the anticipation of a good experience. Very unhappy customer.Written 28 February 2023

My partner and I did the free Mumbai walking tour on 5 Oct 2022 5pm (can’t remember guides name). We have done many walking tours around the world and this was the worst we have ever done. At the beginning the tour guide immediately informed us we would pay him at the end and the money is “for the children”. On the tour the main info we got was the name of a building, the year and the architect. An example includes the flora fountain who the guide said the architect was “david” (no last name). I fact checked and this was not even correct. When we asked questions he would either ignore, answer “yes/no” (to a non-yes/no question) or provide an answer that was so obviously false (e.g. the high court has only ever seen three cases). We would ask multiple times to ensure he understood but he was clearly not wanting to answer them. The other tour attendee answered our questions more than the guide so at least we got some info! This person also appeared frustrated with the guide. One of the few bits of info included a rumor from his dad about a building, and telling us multiple times how a post office can post items. The info gained was truly awful. Towards the end he asked us to take a video of us smiling saying how great the tour was - we did that to avoid confrontation, noting the absurdity given the tour was awful. At the end he showed us a to a restaurant, he sat next to me in a booth so I couldn’t get out and demanded we pay him.
Before reading the below, note that In the booking/confirmation email, it stated the company would never force anyone to pay a fixed amount and that 500 rupees was a standard example.
So before the tour My partner and I agreed 500 rupees each if the tour was standard, more if it was good. It was awful but we gave him 500 rupees for his poor attempt. He proceeded to get angry and demand more money (he started the convo with saying we need to pay an absurd amount, by the end he was only demanding 500 rps each). He called his boss and made my partner speak to the boss who demanded more money too. This happened more than once. I tried to tell him if he wants a set fee he should advertise that. He ignored me, only wanting to speak to my (male) partner. He kept saying the money was for the children but would also accidentally say it was for the “company”. When we called him out on that he said “oh yeah it’s for the children”. We have been in India a few weeks so are used to people asking for money but this is the worst we have experienced. He was very intimidating so once he finally left after 5 mins of demanding more money, we only left the restaurant once our Ola was right at the door. It might have been dramatic on our end but we really thought he would be waiting outside for us (he wasn’t - but that is the level of intimidation he used). Given the company wants to use intimidation tactics, they should at least put on a good tour!

A great tour to do if you’re short of time and want to get your bearings. Our guide Ali met us at our hotel and showed us around all the beautiful buildings of Mumbai. We skipped the gateway of India as it was opposite our hotel and we’d been. He did take us instead for local tea which was delicious. We had an added treat it being Sunday that we saw a Bollywood movie being shot, and witnessed a minor bike vs car accident outside the library, huge fun as the car driver had a mini meltdown, and Ali was there to translate.

Excellent free walking tour! Our guide was Vrushali and she was wonderful. We highly recommend this tour. Very informative and we saw places we wouldn’t have seen on our own. Her descriptions of the places visited were valuable for our understanding what we were seeing. Thanks.

I had booked this tour prior to arrival in India as I thought that it would ease us in to our independent journey around India. Our guide was Nisar. He had been our guide for a street food tour the previous evening and our hearts sank when we discovered that he would again be our guide. A lot of his information was either irrelevant (the names of architects and how much they were paid) or incorrect (Gateway of India built for Queen Victoria - WRONG - she never visited India, it was built for George V) (Flora Fountain named after a member of the British royal family - WRONG - a Roman goddess) (the Indian Mint is a 'secret' building that nobody knows about - WRONG - it is shown on Google Maps). We spent a lot of time wandering around with no clear idea of where we were going and returned to the same place a few times. He took us to some shops when we mentioned a few things we had thinking about buying. We thought we did a good job of haggling the price down. However, our subsequent travels revealed that we had still substantially overpaid. The only positive was that Nisar took me to a kiosk where I got an Indian sim card. But overall it was a long, tedious day where we learnt little that we couldn't have found ourselves. Nisar claims to be doing guiding to support a large number of orphaned children. If that is true then he needs to seriously improve his knowledge and his organisation of the tour.
