What to expect
  • After meeting your guide in Colaba in the late afternoon, set off on foot through the streets and alleyways and stop first at Crawford Market. Founded in 1871, Crawford Market sports Gothic and Romanesque features, a defining architectural style of South Mumbai. Check out displays of colorful vegetables, meats, imported cheeses, homemade chocolates and household goods. (Please note that some endangered and exotic animals are sold at Crawford Market). Next up, get a taste of the vibrant Kalbadevi and Bhuleshwar bazaars. The sight and scents of a multitude of Indian spices make this area particularly stimulating. Stop to take it all in while sipping a complimentary cup of tea or soda before continuing on to your next destination: Mangaldas Market. Opened in 1893, Mangaldas Market is home to hundreds of clothing vendors and tailors, and it is known to celebrated fashion designers for its fabulous fabrics. Take a break from shopping to visit the quiet oasis of Mumbadevi Temple. Inside the temple, you might see devotees being blessed by Hindu priests and your guide explains the basics of Hinduism, the dominant religion of India. Near the temple, head into Mumbai’s flower alley, renowned for garlands of saffron-colored marigolds and red roses. Then see Bombay Panjrapole, an animal shelter that was founded in 1834. Situated on a quiet two-acre parcel within busy Bhuleshwar market, the shelter primarily cares for hundreds of cows, which are sacred to Hindus. After an eye-opening tour with your insightful guide, your tour ends at Madhav Baug in Bhuleshwar

Amazing tour!!
Feb 2020 • Friends
We had the most incredible tour of the markets and temples in South Mumbai with Suja and Depak!! We spent 2.5 hours exploring and being told about the history of the area. We even took a little detour to try some street food! They helped me haggle when purchasing some fabric and also helped us at the end when the taxi had no change for us. We (2 women in our 20s) felt completely safe with the two of them and really appreciated the time they spent showing us around and answering our questions. We also love that a portion of the tour cost goes to charity. If you're looking to go on an adventure at low cost in Mumbai, this is the tour for you!

Fascinating Side of the City
The tour covered so much and we saw many wonderful things. The tour guide spoke English well and added some personal insights as well. The only complaint is that it should have been longer and slower. We went really quickly through some parts of the market that we would have liked to linger in, but overall, one of the better tours we've taken.

Fab way to explore local areas.
Visiting Mumbai for a few days. Been here before and did all the big tourist attractions then. We wanted to explore more of the local areas and markets this time. This tour did not disappoint! Chetan, our lovely, and very knowledgable young man, took us around the streets, markets and a few temples in the area. He gave us a running commentary on points of interest and areas we passed by. He told us some of the history of Mumbai and was full of facts. He even help me buy a sari for a friend. I am sure if I had gone myself it would have cost a lot more! The tour we just long enough, and at a good pace for us, in our late 50s. Would recommend this to all ages.

A great way to see south Mumbai
Dec 2019
I have visited Mumbai a few times and wanted the chance to see more without getting lost. I was guided by the knowledgeable Chetan. We saw all kinds of markets, temples and the wonderful cow sanctuary. I would recommend it as a great way to get an insight into south Mumbai.

Good introduction to Mumbai
Oct 2019
A really excellent tour hosted by knowledgeable guide with a great sense of humour. It was our first visit to Mumbai ( but not to India) and we really enjoyed being shown the local markets. Being with a guide means that you go to areas that you would not necessarily explore on your own ( indeed you might not necessarily find them!) and you have recourse to their knowledge and experience in being able to engage in conversation with the stall holders that you would not do if you were on your own. If you wish to make a purchase they can help you in recommending a realistic price without necessarily depriving the stall holders of their livelihood. The temple and cow sanctuary were of limited interest to us but an added a certain raison d'être to the tour.

Huge busy market that would have been too much to negotiate on my own. We saw a couple of temples, the food section, fabric, jewelry, flowers, cookware area, and even tried some food. The cow sanctuary was wonderful and we got to feed cows and buffalos. Highly recommend.

Markets & Temples amazing tour
In a group of 5 persons we were guided through the buzzing city. Janna, our knowledgeable and experienced guide, took us on this tour that addresses all your senses. We hopped on a bus, saw colourful textiles, smelled delicious spices and fruits, tasted chai, visited a temple, fed cows in a sanctuary throughout the buzzing city. I also welcome the idea of Reality Tours to reinvest their profit in the local community. An unforgettable tour i highly recommend.

explore indian retail markets
Nov 2018 • Solo
If you are interested in retail markets in Mumbai, this is the tour for you. Chetan, our guide, walked us thru the textile, gold, food and other hyper-specialized markets as well as a cow sanctuary and Hindu temple. We passed by a mosque and as well as a Jain temple. You can't do this on your own - you'd be lost in 5 minutes.

Very Insightful Tour, with Excellent Guide
Nov 2018 • Solo
My tour was supposed to contain 6 people, but the group of 5 did not show up, so I was given a private tour. My guide, Bipin, was excellent. He took me through all of the markets, describing everything in interesting detail. He knew the history and significance of each market. His English was excellent. I had mentioned that I was looking for a thali set (for Indian cooking) but that I didn't know where to get one or how much to pay, and he took me to a section in the market where they sold cookware and utensils, and when I saw a set that I liked, he did the negotiating for me in Hindi, getting me an excellent price. I enjoyed the tour very much and would recommend it to anyone coming to Mumbai.
