      Fun and educational!
Even though I’ve lived in Birmingham for a while, I still learned new things! Our guide- Clay, was a terrific host! He knows his stuff and was very friendly and funny. My family had a great intro to the city!

Some of this was a real eye opener!
We took a 3 hour tour of the civil rights activities and places around Birmingham. Mike was a great driver and narrator, he knew the history and facts. Very interesting, and disturbing, information that gave us an incite of some of the brutality suffered to finally conquor raceism in the south. Birmingham was a hard nut to crack.

Fight for Rights Tour: A Must-Do!
We took the Fight for Rights tour and I can't recommend it highly enough. Our tour guide was Clay who was a wealth of information, not only about Birmingham's sorted past but also about the Civil Rights movement in general. I also appreciated the knowledge he shared about Birmingham's economic history and how that has contributed to what Birmingham is today. This is a must experience for anyone who is interested in understanding how our country has devolved into the partisan battleground that currently defines us.

      Excellent experience with Clay
Had a great tour with Clay! We had one day in Birmingham, and this tour was exactly what we wanted — a good overview of the city’s history and people plus some great sightseeing sports. Well worth the price. Highly recommend!

      Introducing Birmingham
Clay is very knowledgeable about Birmingham and was able to answer any questions we had. A great experience for the start of our girlfriends get away. This gave us a good overview of a city we didn't know anything about and he offered us many tips about things to do and places to eat.

      Best tour!
Red Clay Enterprises are professional and knowledgeable. Our guide, Clay, enjoys his job and made it fun and interesting for us. We drove to different sights throughout the city and then walked around learning facts and history. I highly recommend this tour. It is the best way to learn about Birmingham on this three hour tour. Also, they will pickup and drop off at your hotel within the city.

Birmingham is more than just Civil Rights
My husband found out about this natl historical landmark that explains the history of the iron industry in Birmingham. Inside movie and gift shop. Outside walking trail weaves in and out of the old factory. If weather is cool, take a jacket! Very interesting part of the city’s past and present. Small admission.

      We were stuffed!
You definitely get plenty of food on this tour! Everything we ate was delicious, and we loved trying some local restaurants that we would not have otherwise found. Mike was a great guide - very relaxed, and we enjoyed the time just "hanging out" at the different stops!

      Historical highlights of birmingham
Clay enterprises, father and son tour business. Brilliant, this particular tour run by the son and like the father very informative, whilst taking us around full of interesting information and facts and they also welcome any info that they hadn't covered, very obliging when needed toilet break, and whilst traveling to next sight see, he pointed out all places of interest and the history. Would highly recommend them. The father does the civil rights tour which I also recommend excellent.

This tour is a must if you want a sincere, clear- eyed look at Birmingham' s Civil Rights history, which forms the basis for understanding the struggle at the National level. My best friend and I were privileged to be the only 2 people on the tour when I visited her in Alabama for the first time since she moved from California, and Mike, our wonderful tour guide, went over and above, answering our many questions, and helping us negotiate the moral terrain of the issues presented; I am White, and she is Black, and this tour was a wonderful addition to our ongoing dialogue about race and history in the US. A must- do, and a visual complement to Birmingham" s Civil Rights Museum.

If you are visiting Birmingham, you do not want to miss the experience of this tour during your stay. Our tour guide Mike was knowledgeable about the history of Birmingham, the culture of the community, each of the pivotal events that brought about the civil rights movement and he also added a first hand perspective as a resident in the area during the years the events unfolded. The tour bus is comfortable, the tour covers a large portion of the city but also has many stops for walking around the places where each of the significant events happened. I am a person who also lived through the years of the civil rights movement, yet this tour gave me a new appreciation, a deeper and richer history of what happened and why it is so important to learn from our past. The experience of this tour cannot be found in text books, you kind of have to re-live it by seeing the sites and imagining what each of the moments brought to life on this tour must have been like. It gave me an appreciation for the courage and sacrifice that the civil rights leaders and participants contributed to making our country better for all.

My son and I were on a 3 week (homemade) Civil Rights tour throughout the South. This tour was a definitive highlight for both of us. Clay was charismatic, well-read, had clearly researched all the information well, and as a native of the city he shared all his disappointments and joys with how his city is. During the tour he showed us all the "highlights" but also drove us through some neighborhoods that an uninformed person would have sped right through and not known anything about what happened there. He also gave us the "warts and all" version and talked quite frankly about how his city has changed since the 1960s, both for the better and how it still has a long way to go in some respects. And, at the end, he moved me to tears when he said that he has chosen his career because he has HOPE for his contradictory, complicated and beloved city.

Clay was a very passionate and eloquent tour guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and he answered all the questions that we had as fully as possible. The bus was immaculate and the entire three hours, including when he was driving, was meaningful. This tour provides an honest assessment of the Civil Rights Movement and the journey is both very impactful and sad at times. I would highly recommend this tour for any one who wants to learn more about the Civil Rights Movement.

If you want to feel like this movement is over, or if you want to feel “good” the entire time this is not the tour for you.

Phenomenal tour with the right mix of history and humor. Clay has a great deal of knowledge and is able to take you to parts of the city that aren’t as well known on the “civil rights trail” but are vital for having a clear picture of the movement in Birmingham. Must do while in town!

This was the best tour I've ever been on, and I retired from the tour business! Clay is passionate and totally honest and direct about his city and its grim history. He clearly explains major events in civil rights history and their societal consequences. I was surprised when a young white guy showed up to give me the civil rights tour, but he was outstanding and didn't try to sugarcoat the facts. As a historian, I thoroughly endorse this tour, and am glad Clay's offering it.

The "Birmingham Civil Rights Tour- Riding & Walking" was an incredible way to spend a morning in Birmingham. Our small group was treated to Mike's incredible depth of knowledge on the topic, enthusiasm for his hometown, warmth, and a comfortable mix of walking and riding in a clean tour van across many sites in the city. The city's role in the civil rights movement was extensive, and Mike did not shy away from sharing the often shameful facts, so be prepared to learn a ton, and come away with a renewed commitment to not let history repeat itself. This company is a small family business and part of your ticket purchase goes to support a local soup kitchen, so I can't recommend it highly enough for those who want to really understand and appreciate this important part of American history.

Mike provided an excellent tour of Birmingham's history in the civil rights movement. We went to the wonderful Civil Rights Institute just before the tour, and had our brief exposure there opened up and filled in in a way that went beyond our expectations. Touring the neighborhoods of Birmingham important during this period helped make it a very personal experience. It is so important we all learn from our history as sobering and sad as it is. Thank you Mike and Red Clay tours for doing this important work!

We contacted Clay of Red Clay Tours from the U.K. and asked for his advice regarding a civil rights tour setting off from Birmingham and including Selma and Montgomery. He helped us plan a full day taking in some excellent museums and sites. The day was very well organised around opening times and individual museum tour times. Clay was extremely well informed and was able to answer questions and help us with context. He was attentive and was happy to be flexible. We ended the day much better informed and pleased that we had chosen Red Clay Tours. Thank you Clay - couldn’t have been better!
