      Fabulous way to experience Kyoto
My husband and I did the full day 5 highlights of Kyoto tour, it was an excellent experience! We had top quality Specialize e-bikes which were a dream to ride. Our guide, Rob, was great fun and very knowledgeable about the places we visited, Kyoto and Japan in general. Cycling is a great way to explore Kyoto and see not only the amazing sights but also everyday Kyoto away from the high traffic areas. This tour has been our best experience in Japan so far. Thank you Rob.

      5 stars - Highly recommend!
Definitely book this tour if you have a free afternoon in Kyoto! Peter was an amazing guide, took us to several beautiful spots on the west side of the city and also provided many fun facts about the area and local traditions as well as gave us restaurant recommendations that would be suitable for my friend who is vegetarian. A truly awesome way to see many places and get some light exercise in as well. HIGHLY recommend!!!

      Great tour!
Great tour! We saw a lot of amazing things we never would have gotten to this easily on our own. Rob knows all about the local legends and religious practises, and you can ask him everything. Very useful to know which coins to use for prayer, and what spigot to drink from without accidentally cursing yourself :) Highly recommend! Especially for people with decent cycling skills!

      Must-do when you visit Kyoto!
The tour takes you all around Kyoto and gives you the opportunity to visit several landmarks while cycling a beautiful route. High quality bicycles, stunning views, culture, nature, good food and very convenient. There’s no reason not to book. An extra shoutout to our absolutely amazing guide Rob who went above and beyond to give us the best experience possible! He made the tour unforgettable. Thanks Rob, you’re the best.

Best day in Japan so far
Best day so far on our 3 week trip in Japan. Great day seeing 5 top sites in Kyoto but so much between them that we found very engaging as well... the back streets, the canals, and all the wonderful information provided by our wonderful guide Rob... originally from Utah but very much now a Japanese local having been here 23 years. It is a long day... and at this time of year got very cold in the afternoon particularly, so be prepared with a backpack carrying layers for both top and legs! Quite a bit of walking too so make sure your shoes are suitable for riding and walking. We are 61 and 56 and while we are regular bike riders we opted for eBikes to just give that bit extra assistance particularly uphill (not too many hills though)... and I'm glad we did. The younger participants were pretty knackered by the end. So were we... but at least we were happy knackered... I reckon we would have been grumpy knackered if we'd had regular bikes! Anyway... it was a wonderful day and Rob was amazing. The lunch was warming and tasty. Thanks, Kyoto Bike Tours. The original and the best, we're told. 🥰

Fun for the whole family, whether you're 12 years old or 74!
There's a reason why Peter and his team have almost 600 5 star reviews. Peter's wit coupled with JS' patience as they led our family of 12 on our tour made for an enjoyable afternoon. During our almost 4 hour bike tour, we visited the Mikami Shrine (everyone needs a little help from the hair god), the Bamboo Forest, the Tenryuji Temple Sogenchi Garden, the Monkey Park and we wrapped our tour up by taking in the impressive Togetsukyo Bridge. Peter and JS helped us navigate the crowds with ease. With such a large group (12 people ranging in age from 12 to 74), we easily could have become frustrated but with Peter leading and JS bringing up the rear, the whole family enjoyed the outing with lots of laughs in between You'll be hard pressed to find a better team of more knowledgable or engaging tour guides; I can't imagine there's a better bike tour in Japan. Peter seemed to know exactly how to capture the best photos in the Bamboo forest (despite the crowds and "influencers") and knew exactly how to keep the younger members of our group engaged. Thanks for a memorable afternoon!

      Awesome bike tour!
Amazing day with Rob from Kyoto Bike tours! His knowledge of Japan and Japanese language and culture was fabulous and he went above and beyond to show us the sights and give us the background and relevance for each one. He set a cracking pace but one that was manageable for our group and allowed us to see more. Long day but fabulous. Highlight of our trip. Huge 5 stars for Rob and this tour!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great guide, cycle, route and pictures!!
We truly feel fortunate to have stumbled upon this incredible tour! Our guide, Peter, impressed us with his amiability, humor infused with a surprisingly lengthy stay in Kyoto, and his expert knowledge on its history and culture. Despite being only two participants in today's tour, Peter wholeheartedly devoted 100% of his energy to guiding us. The bike, a breeze to ride, allowed us to smoothly complete the 44km route around Kyoto. The experience was undeniably worthwhile, as we explored the top-tier attractions and soaked in the breathtaking scenery along the way. Peter's native English, delivered at an ideal pace, made it effortlessly understandable even for us non-native speakers. One notable mention is his talent for capturing brilliant pictures, an unexpected yet delightful bonus surprise! We wholeheartedly recommend this tour to those keen on exploring Kyoto through cycling.

A Great Way to enjoy Kyoto
We had a wonderfull day with our guide Robert, getting to know some of the most significant and beautiful parts of Kyoto. This was a really well organised tour and Robert was able to give us a great understanding of the history and culture of each of the places we visited. Robert is highly knowledgeable and very informative in a relaxed and friendly way. This is a really great tour enabling us to get to so many sites in one day but not at all rushed as Robert was very good at steering us through any of the crowded points very efficiently. We had elected e-bikes for the tour and they were the best and most up to date Specialized bikes I’ve seen. It was a cold morning at the start so we were impressed with the addition of some woollen gloves in our bike baskets in case we needed them and a bottle of water on the bike. Lunch was a real treat at a small but very popular udon restaurant (queue down the street unless you get there at the right time). Thank you Robert for a great experience and we enjoyed the way you shared your knowledge and passion for Japanese culture.. Would highly recommend

      Great way to experience Kyoto
Fantastic way to see Kyoto. Rob, our (super nice) guide was so knowledgeable on all things Kyoto and Japan in general. Highlights were the bamboo forest where Rob took some great photos of us and spotting geishas in Gion. Rob also had great knowledge of the history of the temples we visited. Despite it being a freezing day and having to stop in at our hotel to pick up extra layers, we had a great tour and I’d recommend this as a way to experience Kyoto.

The best way to see the sights of Kyoto in a day
After looking around at bus tours to avoid having to plan a full days exploration of Kyoto I stumbled upon the option of a full day bike tour, offering all the sights I wanted to see and exercise along the way, it was a no brainer for me. On the day I arrived early at the designated start point to meet with Rob and start the adventure. The day is planned out to maximise photo opportunities and hit the busiest areas first and beat the rush. The result was some incredible photo opportunities and a day of informative and personable support from the guide. The ride was mostly flat but with a couple of challenging hills but everything is taken at a sensible pace and there was enough time to get around while experiencing the places you would never see by any other means of transport. You can absorb the different locations as you travel through them and the lunch was a well informed local choice! I had a fantastic time and would not hesitate to book a future bicycle tour of Kyoto or any other city for that matter. Thanks so much for an amazing day.

      Best afternoon in Kyoto
What an absolutely amazing afternoon. My boys and I had the best time on our Kyoto Bike Tour with Ray. We got to see so much on the tour and loved the additional surprises on the tour. A highlight from our trip to Japan and Kyoto.

Fantastic experience - beautiful scenery, knowledgeable guide, great fun!
I booked for our family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 young teens. We found our guide, Ray, easily at the train station who had all our gear ready using the measurements we’d previously provided. A quick safety briefing and we were off! We were with another family (max group size is 8) so it was a nice sized group. The bikes were all very comfortable and in great condition and Ray made adjustments if needed. At each point of interest Ray would share information with us about what we were looking at - he’s extremely knowledgeable and it made the tour so much more enjoyable. The cycling was easy and the scenery beautiful. Riding through the rice fields was a real highlight. We absolutely loved our time with Ray and would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kyoto.

Ray is such a lovely, gentle and instantly likeable guy who clearly has a pretty deep knowledge of Japanese and Kyoto history and is very skilled at imparting it through sharing interesting facts and entertaining stories. We spent 4 hours together cycling through beautiful landscapes and stopping off at various locations, and the time just flew by. The bikes are very nice and easy to ride and Ray is super attentive. Cannot recommend this tour highly enough, especially if you want to almost completely avoid the crowds by doing the 'early bird' morning tour. Just book this one folks - you will not be disappointed.

We weren't really sure what to expect with the bike tour, but I can say with complete certainty that we were THRILLED with our experience. Peter was incredibly friendly and informative and gave us a lot of interesting tidbits of information along our tour. He also took us to places that were not swarming with tourists (the morning time slot may have helped a bit, but we were still able to see cherry blossoms with literally no one else but our group around). The equipment was easy to use (bikes, helmets, water all provided). We also had entrance to the Zen Gardens which were beautiful. If you're looking to do something a little active and off the beaten city path, I definitely recommend booking the early bird bike tour. Peter also gave us the inside scoop on a local Japanese Curry spot that was SO TASTY. It was the perfect way to end the tour!

This bike tour was a amazing. Solid bikes, low stress, good pace, safe, fun . . . it really ticked ll the boxes for a great experience. Peter is very knowledgeable about the local history and culture. Peter also did a great job of helping the group feel at ease and navigate the cultural expectations the Japanese have for those visiting their historical sites. A bike tour like this is really the only way to see a city like Kyoto and Peter delivered a great one. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to be a bit active, see some great sites and learn a bit about Kyoto and Japan.

In our short visit to Osaka and Kyoto, this tour was the highlight! My husband and I found Ray to be an amazing guide - very knowledgeable in Japanese language, culture, and tradition. He answered so many questions and helped us have a deeper understanding of Kyoto’s and Japan’s history.
The tour was amazing! The early bird route to the Bamboo Forest was perfect as we definitely beat the crowds. The bikes were also very well kept and easy to adjust to, which is always a concern in the back of my mind. Ray also took a bunch of photos for us and of us, so we could focused almost exclusively on enjoying the sights!
My husband and I loved the tour so much that I expect we’ll be back for a full-day tour within a few months, if our vacation allows. Seriously, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone capable of riding a bike!

This was a great tour! I highly recommend if you are in Kyoto... Not only did Ray do an amazing and thoughtful job explaining everything we saw on the tour, but he also gave great insight to the culture and history of Japan in general. I would recommend doing this as one of the first things you do when you get to Kyoto as the context Ray gave provided a great knowledge base for me to continue exploring the city. Ray's passion for and knowledge about Japan really shown through in this tour and I learned so much from him. A do not miss if you are in Kyoto!

This was the most epic, amazing, and informative tour I have ever been on! Not only did we bike throughout the entire city, allowing us to see so many things we otherwise wouldn’t have, but we learned about each destination. Ray was kind, skillful, watchful, and fun! He clearly loves what he does and has so much passion to share it with others. I have never been on a tour that felt so inviting and free! I would highly recommend doing this no matter what physical level you’re at. Although we biked from 9am to 6:30- I never felt drained or tired. This made me see Kyoto with fresh and curios eyes. If there were more stars, I would use them all. Hope to see you again, Ray!

We started our Kyoto vacation early with the Arashiyma bike tour. It was amazing! We had our 3 and 1 year olds with us and they had a great time as well. The equipment was great and the kids were very safe. They loved being taken around on the bikes.

The tour was a good mix of nature, temples/shrines, history and townscapes. Our guide, Ray made everything very easy and smooth. Even when our kids got fussy at times (or tried throwing rocks into zen gardens (smh)) he was kind and positive. We loved his recommended itinerary, which took us away from the more crowded areas.

The autumn leaves on the mountains and gardens were beautiful. Having lived in Japan 2 years we’ve seen many temples, but these were some of the best because of the mix of art, nature and ambiance.

Highly recommend this tour, especially if it’s your first time in the area or Japan.

This was the best tour my husband and I did in Japan. The tour guide, Peter, was lovely and extremely knowledgeable, having lived in Japan for over 25 years. As English speakers, he was able to clearly explain interesting facts and history about Kyoto and Arashiyama. We opted for the early bird Arashiyama bamboo forest tour and it went for approx. 3 hours and in that time we covered a lot of ground, visiting the bamboo forest, several temples, the famous bridge, the main street in town and more. Peter captured fantastic photos of each individual group throughout the tour at each stop, he also took some great group photos that I have attached here.

I couldn’t recommend this tour more highly! Great value for money.

I highly recommend doing this bike tour when you're in Kyoto! It was such a fun way to explore the area and our guide Ray was wonderful. He taught us so much about everything that we saw and he took us to a few places that we never would have found on our own. He even took photos throughout the tour and was able to get so many nice family photos of us. Our kids are 1 and 4 and they enjoyed riding around on the bikes as much as we did. I was so thankful that Kyoto Bike Tour offers child seats and child helmets so that we were able to do this as a family. It was definitely one of the most memorable parts of our trip!
