Firstly, visit Hefang Historical Street. With brilliant culture and long history, it is regarded as a typical symbol of ancient Hangzhou. It represents the old story and showcases the folk culture of Hangzhou, which is an ideal place for shopping, to buy souvenirs, taste local snacks as well as savor the beautiful artefacts. After that, you will enjoy one of famous natural shows in China, the “Impression West Lake Show”. This show lasts around 1 hour, which was directed by Zhangyimou, Fanyue and Wangchaoge. Filmmaker Zhang is the mastermind of many renowned stage spectacles, including the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The show is praised “A scene in heaven and a dream on earth”. It is definitely a magnificent show with a tremendous music, culture and history set on the stunning backdrop of West Lake. With the colorful light bright during the show, dancing on the surface of the lake appears particularly prominent.

Bespoke Tour in Hangzhou/Shaoxing with Lulu
We are a family of 5 (with a 2-year-old toddler and 2 grandparents) who did a 7-day bespoke tour of Hangzhou and Shaoxing with Lulu in March 2024. At our request, the tour was largely conducted in Mandarin with the occasional English. We found Lulu to be very energetic and enthusiastic. She was always eager to share stories with us, whether historical, mythical or just about everyday life in Hangzhou. She was also patient in her explanations (and in repeating them at times), with a suitable amount of detail for the average traveller. She is clearly passionate about taking care of her guests. For example, we were looking to see if there was a particular shop near our hotel at the end of the day. While we returned to our room to leave our belongings, she looked up the shop online, called to find out where they were located, and went ahead to check how to get there, before coming back to give us directions - all this after the tour had formally ended for the day. Lulu's knowledge of the areas we were visiting was also very good. She had very good recommendations for restaurants, both in terms of the quality of the food and the restaurant's proximity to the sites we were visiting for the day. Where certain restaurants were very busy and queues were long, Lulu also had nearby alternative recommendations in the bag. Where she was not too sure, she would often run ahead to scout out locations, whether they be toilets, restaurants to see if the queues were long, or even just pick-up points or places to sit and rest. Lastly, Lulu was always prompt in replies to texts, and punctual. However, we have to say that we were persuaded to do a one-day trip to Shaoxing (including Lanting) instead of two days, and ultimately felt that it was rushed. Also, we were brought to Meijiawu for what we believed was to be a tea-tasting session. In the end, while we were given a glass of tea, we felt that the focus of the visit was not tea, but rather some pill supplements that we were being asked to buy. That said, these were but minor gripes in comparison with what was otherwise a very enjoyable week of visiting. It would be amiss of us not to mention our driver, who was very helpful when loading and unloading our belongings from the large and very clean car - he even cleared our rubbish from time to time. The car rides were smooth and very comfortable, and the toddler seat that was provided as part of our tour was both good and clean. Our driver was also proactive. Without us having to say anything, he learnt how to fold/unfold our stroller by watching us do it once, and we would regularly find it folded and stored, or unfolded and ready for use, as the case may be. He was pleasant and nice to chat with, and was concerned for our safety when boarding or getting off the vehicle. For example, he would stand next to us while we got our toddler in/out of the car and watch the traffic. This gave us a sense of security, especially on the occasions when our child decided not to be cooperative and we had to struggle with her. Lastly, as with Lulu, our driver was punctual.

        Remarkable Day in Hangzhou
I contacted this company through their number on the website and was in touch via WhatsApp and emails… They carefully crafted a private tour for me with all the places I wanted to visit… The tour itself was awesome… My tour guide, Miss Sofia was splendid, friendly, and did everything to make the tour incredible.. We visited the West Lake and took a boat ride, strolled through Flower Habor, paid a visit to Guo’s Village, went to Meijiawu Tea Village and tried the Longjing tea, had wonderful lunch, followed by a cultural tour to Lingyin Temple and Feilai Peak, before our final stop at Hefang Street… Miss Sofia made my day an unforgettable one … I definitely recommend this company

I couldn't have hoped for a better guide than Autumn
From the moment Sam promptly replied to my first enquiry email within about half an hour, and Bonnie then followed up in a highly professional way regarding planning and payment, I knew I was in safe hands. My eventual guide, Autumn, proved to be the icing on the cake: I could not have hoped for a better guide or a nicer and more knowledgeable companion for the two days I had with her in Shanghai a couple of weeks ago, doing an in-depth and very personal tour. Autumn spoke excellent English, was extremely flexible as to where to go, accommodating my requests which took us a little off the beaten track in some cases (including to the little known Shanghai Xian Dong Museum of Buddhist Art, out "in the country" as she put it). If the tour had a theme it would be "Temples and Tea" - we visited the Confucian Temple )closed due to continuing restoration), wandered the streets of the French Concession, saw the Jade Buddha Temple, we happily ate "local", and also visited the Hongqiao Pearl Market and the said Buddhist Art Museum. All day one! Autumn seemed to have friends wherever we went, which only added to the depth of my experience. We were driven around everywhere by her delightful driver, which really reduced the stress of being a solo traveller trying to work out public transport in an unknown city. On Day Two we started out looking at a fragment of the Shanghai city wall on the way to the Daoist Temple, visited the allleys of Tianzifang for a little shopping and to see a local vegetable market, had lunch in a buzzing underground shopping centre (Autumn carefully finding somewhere that allowed me to eat gluten-free), went to the Jing'An Temple and finished our day at the tea market, being given a tea tasting by a tea producer. It was heaven! So, a big thank you to Autumn and her kind driver, and to Sam and Bonnie - and wishing you all much success in the future. I can highly recommend you all and will be happy to do so.

        Heaven on Earth
We were fortunate to spend the day with Nancy that took care of us extremely well. Very knowledgeable of the area and cared about my fractured knee as we traveled. She made a point to show us key sites at West Lake and shared her keen knowledge of the temples as we discussed the differences between Buddha from China, India and Thailand. Just a lot information and we were celebrating our wedding anniversary which was an all around nice day. Highly recommend this tour and Nancy. The driver was very nice but I did not catch his name.

        Excellent Tour
My colleague used this tour to go to Hangzhou's West Lake and he strongly recommended me to use them. He was right! My tour guide, Sharon made my trip unforgettable. I visited the Hangzhou area by myself and I do not speak Chinese at all. Sharon speaks very good English and extremely knowledgeable as a tour guide. She waited for me at the exit of the Hangzhou East Station and a driver was also waiting for me in air-conditioned car at the parking lot. Everything was exclusively privately arranged. I visited the West Lake, Farmer's house for lunch, Tea plantation, Lingyin temple, and a shopping area. She bought all admission tickets for me. Everything was so smooth and I did not waste any my time. Including lunch and tips, total sum of the cost was about 1500 RMB, which is absolutely worth it. Strongly recommended!

Great tour guide for a quick outing with colleagues
We took a day tour with David to West Lake, the Dragon Tea Plantation, a Buddhist temple and the popular shopping street in Hangzhou. First, David was knowledgeable, funny and made it feel like we were touring with a friend. The car he had was his moms which was very comfortable...some tours you will ride in a taxi but not this one (he may not always have his moms car so we may have gotten lucky!). It was pouring rain at the lake but still very beautiful. The rain let up for the other parts of the tour. Private tours are great when you get a great guide...I would do this again. After our tour in Hangzhou, they helped us arrange a tour in Beijing for the following weekend. Thanks David and China Private Tours!

        Beautiful day in Hangzhou
My daughters (age 9 and 11) and I spent a great day touring Hangzhou with Sam. There were so many highlights... our favourite stops were Guo’s villa, the bamboo path at Yunqi, lunch in Amanfayun (a simple, absolutely delicious meal), and a special visit to the Chinese Medicine Clinic where we paid 20RMB to be checked by a traditional doctor- a unique expertise for us and the doctor. :) Sam was easily able to customise our tour- we skipped West Lake with him because we had plans to go there on our own the following day. The weather in late June was rainy but incredibly lush and green. The temperature was warm and we didn’t mind being out in the rain. Sam shared a lot of interesting stories and details about life in ancient and modern China. My only warning is to be careful about overbuying the Dragon Well green tea at Meijiawu. I “drank the kool-aid” and am going home with 5 years (literally) worth of tea leaves. Overall a great day and highly recommended!

        Day trip to Hangzhou
We had an absolutely fabulous day on our private tour of Hangzhou. Our guide, Tommy, was wonderful. He showed us all the best highlights, kept the tour flexible, told us lots of very interesting information, and made us feel very welcome. The lunch was in a tea house with amazing views of the green tea terraces! We did the day tour with pick up and drop off at the train station and that worked out really well. The car was a very nice, clean Mercedes with a very good driver. We highly recommend this tour.

Private two-day tour of Hangzhou with Sharon
My family and I were guided by Sharon on a two-day private tour of Hangzhou, covering scenic areas such as the West Lake, as well as the tea plantations around Hangzhou. The city offers some fantastic views with a mix of old and new. Sharon was a wonderful guide, explaining the history of her city in perfect English, and also offering to adapt the tour depending on how tired we were. This is why we tend to prefer opting for small private tours in order that the itinerary can be as flexible as possible. Sharon's knowledge was very in depth, and as a history geek, I certainly learnt a lot from the experience and the tour. Hangzhou, Sharon explained, is one of these cities where you need to go more than once, at least once per season. Having been there myself now, I can totally see why. Would really recommend you get in touch with this company and ask for a tour if you ever find yourself in Hangzhou.

Whirlwind tour of the sights with Nancy
I arrived in Hangzhou late, like 11am, and was returning on a 6pm train so time was of the essence. Nancy and our driver Lina to the rescue! The tour is almost exactly as advertised, starting on a boat cruise on West Lake - very calm - and then following with Lingyin Temple, Amanfayun village, Longjing tea plantation and more. It would not have been possible to do all of these stops on my own - transportation alone would have been a nightmare. Nancy was a delight, with a great sense of humor. She was very happy to give as much or as little of the details as you wanted about each of the various sights. You don’t *have* to do a tour to come to Hangzhou, but if you really want to maximize your visit here, you should. The price is very reasonable and it eliminates a lot of stress that you might otherwise have, particularly if you’re on a day trip from Shanghai and where time is of the essence.

At night you can go to see the spectacular performance of the Chinese director Zhang Yimou, Impression West Lake. The show takes place every evening (if weather allows), with the first starting at 19:15 and the second starting at 21:45. The show is about an hour and a half long. The tickets for the show can be purchased through your hotel or in advance through the following website. The show takes place entirely on the lake itself and if you wonder how it is possible, I will tell you that it was built 3 centimeters below the water line. The show combines lights of different colors, exciting music, hypnotic dancing and an outstanding game. The plot is based on a common legend in Hangzhou, which we, the visitors from the West, do not really know, but it does not detract from the pleasure of watching the show. The director managed to use the lake and the surrounding objects in a sophisticated and admirable way, creating a stunning and extraordinary show, in which thousands of talented actors take part. This is the most popular show in the city, so tickets should be purchased soon. And my tip, for those who come to Hangzhou during the winter season and want to watch the show: Do not forget to bring something warm to wear with you, as the weather is freezing during the show and it will only make you less fun.

Our cruise on West Lake itself was in the afternoon, and it was a beautiful day; we enjoy boat trips, and it was very pleasant, also seeing some of the statues that appear on the backside of Chinese currency.

However, the real jewel of West Lake is the West Lake Show after dark. The ingenuity to construct boardwalks under the surface of the water, and have the actors "walk on water" while doing dances to orchestral music was phenomenal!!! The props used throughout the performance complemented and supplemented the human component of the show beautiful; the varying light show on the surrounding trees on the shoreline contributed stunning backdrop to the drama being played out. A must-do if you are in Hangzhou.

Enduring memories of Hangzhou show is the updated version of Impression West Lake show after G20 Summit in 2016. We have viewed the show by late March this year and opined that this should be a "must" for visitors, local or overseas. Both the light and sound performances were outstanding. All the audience applauded to the dancers while performing under the romantic atmosphere. Highly recommended to others while visiting Hangzhou.

Where to start. . . It is the most amazing show that I have ever seen. I personally think that the one thing that sets it apart is the stage used. I don't think I will see a stage as big or as beautiful again in my lifetime. Music has an international language all of its own so there is no problem with not being able to speak or understand the language. The different acts were introduced in Chinese and English. The lighting was spot on. It truly was a highlight of my 17days in China. If you are ever in Hangzhou this, in my opinion, is a must do activity.
