About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Theoweo0 contributionsDay in Xi'anI had an excellent day with Jackie on this amazing tour. He was very informative and able to speak to with ease as there was a driver. Jackie was very knowledgeable about the sites visited, and also about life in Xi'an . The Hangyaling museum was very interesting and very evocative and not at all busy. In contrast, the visit to the terracotta warriors was very crowded, but Jackie was extremely helpful in helping me negotiate the crowds and deal with tickets, gates etc. The lunch and cave house were also both enjoyable. Thank you Jackie for an excellent day!Written 21 February 2024
- josefhT935TR0 contributionsTerracotta Army site & museum, Ancient City Walls, Great Wild Goose Pagoda, Muslim Quarter and shopping for a cameraLily is an extraordinary guide, her deep knowledge of Xian and surroundings, their history and their landmarks, her excellent English and friendly personality made the tour very enjoyable ... in addition Lily went way beyond her duty to help me solve problems unrelated to her tour ... I had broken my main camera in Taipei and wanted find a possible replacement ... Lily found a well stocked photography store (not easy in a country where most people think cell phones are cameras) which carried the brand I wanted and also shipped a couple of museum guide books back to me in Canada (which involved packaging the books and handling the post office/customs forms) ... this was a BIG contribution to make my visit to Xian a very special trip that I will always remember ... Lily also has a very good driver with a clean and modern vehicle ... Josef Hochleitner, TorontoWritten 29 November 2023

- E5766LXmarcd0 contributionsHistorical trip and great experienceXi'an Tour with Michael was a great moment and educative time. Michael was very friendly and elaborated and clearly explain the History regarding the city of Xi'an. He gave us detailled information and interresting background stories. He was comfortably able to answer all our questions regarding the rich History of China. I would recommend this tour in order to have the background History behind the city of Xi'an !Written 10 November 2023
- 84elied0 contributionsExcellent experience, highly recommend!Michael is a walking encyclopaedia. Throughout the tour, he did not miss a beat to provide us with the most precious details behind every artefact, site or monument. The rich knowledge of history as well as the convenient transportation made this tour one that I can recommend to anyone visiting Xi’an.Written 9 November 2023
- Silvia0120 contributionsExtremely fascinating tourExtremely fascinating and well organized tour. The explanations of our guide Michael were very interesting, he speaks very good English and is familiar with thousends of years of Chinese history. He's also a very nice person. The Terracotta Army is one of the most impressive things you can ever see and experience, but without Michael's explanations the experience would not have been half as deep. The museum is also worth seeing (and one of the few sightseeing spots in China where you don't have to fight your way through crowds). And the lunch with the freshly prepared noodles tasted good, too. We can only recommend this tour.Written 1 November 2023
- Nolajuli0 contributionsExcellent, fun, efficient, food tour. Would definitely do it again.I did a wonderful evening food tour with Michel Chang. I highly recommend doing this and I would definitely do it again. We tried so many delicious dishes and Michael did an excellent job of explaining the food and the history and answered lots of questions I had about everything!! We went to places that I would not have known to go, or been able to efficiently go all around town, and had dishes I would not have known to try!!! Thank you Michael and thank you Lilys toursWritten 1 November 2023
- 106hilaryz0 contributionsAmazing day with an excellent guide and I unique experienceMichael was AMAZING! We started with the Hanyangling museum- a perfect opening for understanding the time period of the terra-cotta warriors. Frankly, I found them much more interesting (though not as awe-inspiringly amazing) than the warriors. There, you see everything in the tomb. Also, there was hardly anyone there, so we could easily take our time. Michael is a great storyteller and gave rich information on life at that time period. We went on to have a marvelous lunch. I have celiac disease and was amazed that Michael took such great care to find a place where I could eat gluten free food! I almost cried with happiness to be able to try the famous food from Xi’an! Something I wouldn’t have been able to do on my own. He even took the time after the tour to help me find more food I could eat. From there we went to the warriors, which are remarkable on their own, but once again Michael brought things to life. Stopping by a yangdong afterwards gave an interesting view into a unique and ancient lifestyle. Since leaving Xi’an I have passed several other yangdong and it was cool to have a sense of what they’re like inside. I highly recommend this tour, and Michael in particular for his care, his storytelling, his knowledge and his overall great company! His English is excellent- certainly one of the best guides I’ve had in China. Thank you Michael for the special day!Written 24 October 2023
- 578kityingl0 contributionsAmazing Historical Sites and Excellent Tour GuideThe highlight of this tour was the historical sites of the two terracotta armies. There is so much history in Xi’an and our tour guide was professional and provided very good explanation. Our tour guide and the drive provided excellent services. Our group totally enjoyed this two-day tour. The only improvement I want to suggest would be more timely response from the tour operator. I was asked to communicate via WhatsApp. I sent a couple of messages to the tour operator and noticed after 24+ hours that the messages were still not being read. Eventually, I asked the tour guide to relate my messages to the tour operator and obtained the answers through the tour guide.Written 21 October 2023

I went there with tour guide Michael Chang from Xi’an. He really made the experience a lot better. He is a great tour guide. I would really recommend booking with him.Written 30 September 2023

- Adrien L0 contributionsBest Terracotta Tour!Jackie was great fun, with lots of information, even relating the dynasty eras to relative times in British history. He was easily understood, and has a good command of the English language. The vehicle had a dedicated driver, so Jackie could interact during the trip.Written 24 September 2023
- Michael E0 contributionsGreat way to spend evening in Xi’anI highly recommend the tour guide Michael and lilys tours. Michael took me to several places via tuk tuk and alleys and we ordered a lot of food. All the places were good and seemed popular with locals and covered a lot of variety. Michael is a great host offering beer when available and ordering from places along the way if I pointed to something and said it looked good. I think this is a really nice way to spend a night in xi’an. I also highly recommend lily’s tours. Communication of logistics could not have been better.Written 23 September 2023

- Jeanne Y0 contributions100% Recommended, Professoinal, Knoweldgeable, Top NotchMichael was an amazing tour guide, 100% recommend, - he is professional, knowledgeable, kind and truly cares about his clients. I didn’t book this tour on time but he still managed to add me to a small private tour. If I had gone without Michael, I would have no idea where, when to go but also would never had learned the vast and interesting knowledge he gave. There was never a question he wasn’t able to answe, and he was always very caring. Michael made my Xian experience unforgettable, I feel very lucky to have been able to be toured by him as he went above and beyond true customer service. Highly recommended - you can’t get better than this.Written 5 July 2023

My day tour of Xi’an was pleasant thanks to my guide, Michael. It was holiday but we had an early start to the day which was helpful in beating the crowd.
I loved everything Xi’an and got to see the major landmarks (Terracotta Army, city wall and Muslim quarter) and tried very delicious food all in a day’s work. As a history buff, seeing the Terracotta Army was a dream come true for me.
Michael was Passionate, Personal, Present and well Prepared! He was thoughtful of my needs as a solo traveller (taking pictures, going to restroom etc.). He impressed me with his knowledge about the overall historical development of Xi’an - from ancient to modern city. I learned a lot, and had an overall good experience 🤩💯 Thanks to Michael, the driver and Lily.
Best wishes,
Emmie from South Africa

Totally recomended tour in Xi'an! My guide, Michael, was superb! Nice guy, friendly, easy talk, very good English, and great guide. He continuously shared interesting facts about every place we visit, as well as suggestions of other things to do to make my stay in Xi'an more enjoyable. Food was also great, and Michael recommended some very traditional Xi'an dishes which were very tasty. Michael even dropped me off in a very nice area that evening as per my request, after we finished the tour, and gave me some tips about things to do, which ended up being one of the best moments I had in the city. 100% recommended!

We had such a wonderful time in Xi'an!!! We arrived on Wednesday and Lily set up a driver to pick us up from the train station in a spacious, air-conditioned minivan. Our driver was there waiting for us and took us straight to the car with no issues at all. The following day, Michael and the same driver picked us up from our hotel (Gran Melia - fabulous hotel in such a great, new part of town!) and they were early, which is always a plus. They drove us to the Terracota Army where we spent a couple hours in the morning. Michael was great with our family (3 kids ages 6, 9 and 11) and had a good idea of how much info to give the kids and how long to stay at each spot. He kept us moving along and everyone had a great time! After that, we went for a bike ride along the ancient city walls - - one of the best parts of our trip!!!! Michael arranged the bikes and helmets for us (don't know how we could've done it without him!) and he outfitted us with 1 tandem bike and 3 single bikes. We spent 2 hours riding and stopping for pictures and some cold drinks. It was WONDERFUL and we got lucky with a cooler day. Michael and our driver were waiting for us by the bike office so as soon as we were done, they got us right back into the air-conditioned van. Then we were driven to the Muslim Quarters which we all enjoyed SO MUCH! What a sight to see and lots of smells and tastes to experience. He was so patient with us as we searched for food our children would eat - hahah! We had a really nice time checking out that area and Michael was wonderful helping us get around, being our personal photographer :) and helping translate when our kids had questions or we stopped into the shops. It was really a terrific experience and one of our favorite days of the trip! Many thanks to Lily for arranging a wonderful day for us!!!

We were picked up promptly at our hotel by our guide Cathy and Mr. Fung, the driver in a comfortable van which was stocked with water. Our first stop was the Terracotta Warriors site. Cathy was very knowledgeable about the history and the ongoing excavation. We never felt hurried and were able to enjoy all aspects of the site. We then went to the Han Yang Ling Mausoleum and also to see a typical farmer's home. Cathy was great- friendly and very excited to share her knowledge of what we were seeing. We stopped at a great local restaurant for lunch. We never felt like we were being pressured to shop and buy something as some tours are said to do. We would not have learned half as much as we did if we had tried to do it on our own or with a large group. We would highly recommend Cathy and Lily's tours!

I only had a day in Xian to see the Terracotta warriors and some of the cultural highlights of the old walled city. Michael was recommended to me and he was a fantastic guide for the day. He really helped me to understand the history of the Terracotta warriors and their significance in the development of modern day China. This made the visit and my experience was much richer as a result. Lunch at a local Chinese restaurant was also great as were visiting the Great Goose Pagoda, the Muslim Quarter and the City Walls.

Our time in Xi'an was limited, and our excellent tour guide Cathy helped us make the best of our time there. We were picked up right on time at our hotel and spent the morning at the Bell tower, Muslim quarter and City wall. On the way to the Terracotta warriors we stopped for lunch and enjoyed a "Chinese Hamburger." We then spent the afternoon at the Terracotta museum. After the museum tour we stopped for a snack before being dropped off at the airport. Our guide Cathy spoke english well and made sure we were comfortable and were enjoying our tour. There was no forced shopping, and Cathy helped us avoid peddlers. She even followed up with us the next day to make sure we got to our destination. I would highly recommend this tour if you only have one day in Xi'an!

We were picked up on the dot by Michael, who got us out to the Terracotta Warriors before the BIG crowds hit (and they were already swelling when we arrived). Mr Jia, the driver, drove like a gent, nothing like cowboy taxi rides I’ve had when O/S.
Michael really knows everything you need: immensely detailed knowledge of Chinese history, of the stories and culture around the first emperor and the warriors. He was bright and cheery, calm and knowledgeable. He was really clever how he moved us around the exhibition, finding quiet spots to prep us for the next sections, knowing where best to stop and show us details we would absolutely have missed by ourselves. He loves the subject and really unpacks the details - especially where the individual warriors and the stunning bronze chariot/emperor’s carriage are displayed.
After the warriors, he guided us away from the vast exit crowds and off to a great nearby restaurant (avoiding the on-site fast food). We gorged on delicious local noodle specialties and salads.
We visited the Eastern Gate & walls. Alas it was way too hot to ride along the walls, but that would have been brilliant. Recommended if you get the chance! Nevertheless Michael gave us the context of the walls in Xi’an’s ancient and modern history, of the bell and drum towers.
We wrapped up with a walk through the Muslim quarter. We were so stuffed from lunch that we didn’t want to eat anything, so Michael adapted the tour to take us through back streets and to a market that happened to be on our day. That was fascinating, getting a view of Xi’an street life. It also meant we felt confident to return to the Muslim quarter that night for dinner and to enjoy the promenading crowds.
I was thrilled with this tour. It was worth every cent. Michael is a great guide and I really recommend him if you want a great tour.

Our large family which included my wife and I, the in-laws and our 3 children enjoyed the Private Xi'an Classic Day Tour which included all tickets and an amazing lunch at a local restaurant that isn't a tourist trap. Cathy who was our tour guide did an outstanding job taking care of all of our needs from small children being tired to us older ones and our issues also and still provided a quality tour above any of the other tour groups in that area.
We started with the pick-up in the morning at our hotel and Cathy immediately "clicked" with all of us and the kids loved her and enjoyed learning Chinese and local customs from her as we went to the first location at the Terracotta Warriors Museum. We spent the morning there and had some shopping within the museum. Cathy's knowledge of the area and her ability to communicate with our younger ones made the experience just that much more special to us and really made our day. After spending the morning there we went to lunch in town close to the Terracotta Warriors Museum and had just the best meal we had our whole time we were in China at a local restaurant. Cathy took care of all the ordering and sat and explained what all the food was. After that we moved back into the city to the City Wall and then to the Bell & Drum Towers before ending at the Muslim Quarter. After that we were taken back to our hotel.
In the end it was really Cathy that made the tour what it was and that much more special for all of us in our family. I HIGHLY recommend Lily's Private Tours for any needs while your are in Xi'an!!

We booked a 1-day tour with Lily's Tours that we customized with what we wanted: namely the Terracotta Warriors Museum, City Wall, the Bell and Drum Towers' square and the Muslim Quarter. Cathy was our guide and she did a great job. We didn't feel rushed and our kids along with us both learned some history in addition to having a lot of fun. Lily herself made a point to meet us back at the hotel at the end of the day to ensure we had a memorable stay in Xi'an. Lily also helped with car transport to the airport which was much appreciated! Overall I would definitely recommend working with Lily/Cathy if you're coming to Xi'an rather than larger tour companies where you won't see the personal touch and effort that they gave us!

My experience with Tour Operator was really good.
Very prompt and clear emails response from my first request.
The tour itself was made with Cathy and she was good and open guide. She was also flexible as we add some more unplanned site as there was spare time until our train time.
Overall I recommend this tour operator

Hi, I want to book your classic tour for next Sunday 20/05
I had 2 questions:
- how many people in the tour?
- we will already tour the Muslim quarter the evening before, so could we please modify that part for a short shopping tour instead?
Many thanks!
