        Memorable Family Vacation
A heartfelt thank you to Wendy, our amazing Travel Consultant at TraveGuideChina, for helping us plan our unforgettable Xi'an-Beijing-Shanghai trip. Wendy helped organize our itinerary, booking hotels, arranging high-speed trains, and providing all the necessary documents for our visa application. Her planning made our trip smooth and hassle-free. We also want to extend our gratitude to our fantastic guides, Lily and Lucy, as well as the drivers, who made our journey so comfortable and enjoyable. The hotels were centrally located, very clean, and provided great comfort. The cars were always spotless, and we appreciated the daily supply of bottled water. During our time in Xi'an, when it rained, the driver provided umbrellas. Our trip to China was the perfect balance of self-planning and guided tours, and we couldn’t have been happier with how everything turned out. For the first week, we planned our own itinerary to visit relatives, but for the second week, we worked with TravelGuideChina to explore the iconic tourist spots in Xi'an, Beijing, and Shanghai. Since we wanted to visit popular attractions like the Terracotta Warriors, the Forbidden City, and the Great Wall, we knew that securing tickets could be tricky, especially from Canada. That’s where Wendy and her team stepped in and made everything seamless. One of the most memorable parts of our trip was my daughter’s visit to the Forbidden City. She had always wanted to wear a traditional Chinese dress, and our wonderful guide, Lucy Yu, helped make it happen. Lucy contacted a rental place and showed us a variety of styles to choose from. The Manfu rental service even sent a stylist to our hotel, who did my daughter’s hair, makeup, and dressed her in a beautiful Manfu. It was such a special experience, and my daughter felt like a true princess walking through the Forbidden City and Lama Temple. Thank you, Lucy, for making this such a magical moment for her! Overall, the mix of self-planning and expert guidance from TravelGuideChina made for a smooth and memorable experience. From the excellent hotels to the well-planned transport and personalized touches like the Manfu dress experience, our trip was one we’ll cherish forever. Thank you, TravelGuideChina, for everything! Highly recommend! Speaking of the Great Wall, our visit to the Mutianyu section was a highlight of the trip. It was a fantastic experience, offering breathtaking views and a less crowded atmosphere. Overall, our time in China was extraordinary, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thank you, TraveGuideChina, for making our trip unforgettable! Highly recommend!

        The best Terracotta Army experience
This was one of the best tours we did in China. The tour guide Roger was excellent and very helpful and full of information throughout the tour. Pickup was on time. But where this tour differentiates from others is Roger’s guiding through the heavy crowds at Terracotta museum. Trust me, you need a guide like Roger. He helped us through the thick crowds to find best wantage points and gave us information in the mean time. All in all I would highly recommend taking this tour with Roger!

        A highly recommended tour!
We visited the Terracotta Warriors Museum on 19th March, which is considered as a shoulder season. It was one of the best decisions we made as even during a shoulder season, we were overwhelmed by the number of visitors. The museum was amazing, and Roger, our local tour guide, was very knowledgeable, funny and always showed us the best spots for photo shooting. It was a great experience and we highly recommend Travel China Guide!

I had a great pleasure both from the tour and from the guide. We managed to bypass all the peaks and enjoy wonderful views and even delicious lunch under the sky, despite the day off. Without a guide this would be unlikely.. thank you for a great day!

Wonderful tour with wonderful guide Roger
Perfect and very reliable communication and tour operation by tour operator Moon. Everything on time and super reliable. We did the Mount Hua Shan with our guide Roger. He is very knowledgeable and tells you a lot of additional information. Besides that treasure chest of knowledge he is very nice and takes care of you very well. I was the slowest in the group and he made sure that I was not left behind. The tour is wonderful, great nature, simply wonderful. I`d recommend that you ask for Roger as tour guide.

Definitely a once in a lifetime experience and the best way to visit China especially for first-timers. Visiting the Great Wall, Terra Cotta Army, and many temples were such breathtaking sights and made even better with kind and knowledgeable tour guides (Kevin, Tracy, and Helen). I enjoyed meeting the others in my tour group as it made it more fun to visit all these historical sites and share meals together. The only thing I would do differently is spend more of my free time exploring further because there is simply too much to see (and eat) in such little time. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone who hasn't visited before!

I chose Travel Guide China at the advice of a friend who had already done considerable research into our options. His advice was very sound. Right from the outset, communication was excellent with Wendy. She sent us all the relevant information we required, tailoring our tour to fit our requirements. Not only that, but she also sent us invaluable advice and support in our Chinese Visa applications, such as provision of Introductory letters and certified itinerary details that were required for the application. I cannot fault her. When the time came, we arrived at Beijing airport in the early morning feeling quite apprehensive and not knowing what to expect. We were met at the customs exit by the jolliest of ladies - Candy. she couldn't have done any more for us and as we boarded our transfer to the hotel, all of our anxieties were melting away. Upon our arrival at the hotel, despite it being very early morning, we were allowed into our room to grab some much needed sleep. The hotel was the Beijing Great Wall hotel. I believe the hotel was a former Sheraton hotel, since sold on to a Chinese company. The reception staff spoke very little English, in fact most staff spoke very little English. Despite this they were very polite and helpful and a few hand gestures and drawings always overcame the language barrier. Our room was spacious and clean, but it has to be said that the hotel was past its best and not a 5* as advertised. The location was good, not far from the Diplomatic zone and adjacent high end western shopping area and restaurants at Sunlitun. Also nearby was the beautiful (and quiet) Chaoyang Park which was well worth the 50p entrance charge. Breakfast at the hotel was a bit chaotic, again mainly due to staff speaking no English at all, and the dining area felt more like a basement store room than a 5* hotel dining room. Food was mainly Chinese, but there were attempts to cater for western tastes. I did feed this back to the tour company later, and I hope that the company reviews their use of this hotel in future. We were met the first morning by Candy and she was great. Full of enthusiasm, friendly and funny. She is a native Beijing girl and what she doesn't know about the city, its history and cultures basically isn't worth knowing. We set off for the city centre including a visit to Tienanmen Square and the Forbidden City. Unfortunately the square was closed for military preparations to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the formation of China as we know it. This was compounded by a state visit of German Chancellor, Angela Merkel that weekend. It was pretty chaotic in what is a chaotic mega city with over 23 million people, most of whom I am sure had come out to see us! Despite this setback, in true Candy style, she muscled her way through, using all her experience and contacts to fast track us through security, bypassing the massive queues and into the Forbidden City. After the informative walk through the city we were taken for an included lunch at a very nice restaurant which was gorgeous. After the lunch, and because of the ongoing military operation Candy was forced to rearrange our itinerary, and we ended up going to a local Hutong, the old Chinese social housing areas in the city. We were treated to a rickshaw ride through the Hutong, where we were taken to visit a local family house to try our hand at Chinese paper cutting. Then we visited the Temple of Heaven before ending a very busy day by attending a Kung Fu Show. All in all a good fun day and we were returned safe and sound to our hotel. Next day was a tour highlight. We are collected early morning by Candy and our driver and taken to Mutianyu mountain area of the Great Wall of China. Candy bought all the necessary tickets and safely negotiated us through the courtesy bus and cablecar up to and onto the wall where we had ample time to explore and savour what we were witnessing. Simply a stunning place and something for the lifetime memory bank. After the tour was finished we went via a Beijing silk market - basically a massive store that sells snide goods at very good prices if you like haggling! On our final day in Beijing Candy took us to the Summer Palace before taking us at the airport for our flight to Xi'an. Candy stayed with us right up until we entered security. Candy was a great guide. Our flight to Xi'an was short and uneventful and we were met as we exited customs by our next guide - Celine. Once again Celine was pleasant, professional and very friendly. She again displayed her in depth knowledge of her home town during our trip to the Sheraton Hotel. This was a quality hotel and we were treated to a complimentary buffet dinner which was amazing. To my surprise, at the end of the meal, Celine reappeared with a birthday cake for me and a rendition of Happy Birthday. Unexpected and very much appreciated. After a lovely breakfast Celine collected us and took us to another China highlight, a visit to see the Terracotta Warriors. Celine's enthusiasm and knowledge made our visit all the more memorable. Back in Xi'an we were taken into the city where we were taken to a local family home where we were invited to watch the owner cook us a delicious banquet. We were then given the option of free time to explore or to take a massage. We were then treated to a fabulous dumpling dinner at the Shaanxi Palace Opera House, where we were then entertained at our tables by the Tang Palace Dance Show. Another memorable day. We awoke on our final morning in Xi'an to rain. This forced a cancellation of our planned Tai Chi in the park, but we were able to visit the stunning old city walls, before being taken to the airport for our next flight to Chongqing, the largest city in China with a population of 35 million people. Once again a guide took us through check in right up to us entering the security area. Upon our arrival in Chongqing we were met by another guide who took us for a meal at a local restaurant before we boarded our cruise boat for the three Gorges element of our trip. The boat, the President 6 was to be honest the worst element of the trip in my view. Although supposedly the flagship of the cruise company, the truth was it was a dated, tatty boat and the vast majority of the guests were Chinese and the catering was geared towards them. We set sail that night under the lights of the multitude of skyscrapers that line the Yangtze River. Chongqing is like Hong Kong/Las Vegas/New York on steroids! Breakfast on the boat was limited unless you like eating Chines food for breakfast , lunch and dinner. A Chinese man sat next to me even commented that he was bored with the food. We were limited to cornflakes, cakes and toast. Our cruise guide was called Gina and she was lovely. Couldn't have been more helpful. Likewise our dedicated waitress, Janae, was so attentive that I would say she has to be one of the best waitresses I have ever had anywhere in the world. Days on the boat usually consisted of an early breakfast, then us sitting docked on the boat and not allowed to leave unless you bought one of the shore excursions at a cost of about £70 per couple. It was hot (up to 37'C) and unbelievably humid, yet the boat had limited metal and unpadded seating on deck - none of which was movable (screwed down) and most of which was unshaded. We were invited to free onshore excursions each afternoon at about 4pm. The two excursions were OK, but we felt trapped on a pretty 'unluxurious' boat for most of the time. Boat aside, our journey down the Yangtze was stunning through the Three Gorges, terminating at the world's largest Hydro electric dam. We had an interesting tour of the dam, before being taken to our next element - the bullet train from Yichang to ShangHai. Not so much a bullet train, that was running half an hour late, More of an intercity express that looked like a bullet! 8 hours later we arrived in ShangHai, and were met by another guide who ensured we got to our hotel, the Parkline Century Hotel, at 1am! The hotel was very nice, but again it had just been sold by the Crowne Plaza group. The signs were there that the hotel is now due a refurbishment. Time will tell whether or not the new Chinese owners do invest - or let the standard drop. One to monitor. We had a lovely breakfast before commencing our final tour of Shanghai city. Our guide was Ryan. He was a nice guy, who spoke very good English, but who I had an inkling was not quite a Candy or Celine. We began by visiting the ShangHai museum, and were left to wander to place with our allocated audio guides. An interesting place. After the museum we boarded a river boat for a short spin up and down the river front. Ryan was on the boat but we didn't see him at any point during the cruise and therefore received little information. Upon departing the boat we were taken to a nice restaurant for our final lunch as a group. Four of our group were vegetarian, four were meat eaters. Ryan took it upon himself to order the meal, selecting four meat dishes and four vegetable dishes. Clearly as a meat eater I eat both meat and vegetables. In effect we had more meat dishes than we needed and not enough veg dishes to go around. One of our group asked if we could change one of the meat dishes for a chicken one. Ryan dismissed this idea saying the ones he had chosen were better in his opinion. The food to be fair was delicious. During the meal as the vegetables quickly ran out, one of the vegetarian members of the group asked why we had two fish based cheese dishes, and asked if it would be possible to have one vegetable based cheese dish. Ryan again dismissed the idea saying it would be tasteless - in his opinion. I would argue that as he was not eating the food that his 'opinion' was merely advisory and that the guests should have been able to order what they wanted as opposed to what he preferred. It's a minor criticism but I believe valid. We where then taken to the Old town and a visit to some gardens which were nice but hot. Then we were taken to the French quarter, which was in essence a collection of western bars, restaurants and shops. Again Ryan was noticeable by his absence. That was the end of the tour despite the itinerary including a tour of the Bund area and some free time to explore which I must have missed! I finished that day decidedly underwhelmed by the contents. Sorry Ryan! We had one final day in Shanghai before flying home which was not part of the tour. We did manage to explore the Bund area, and a good tip for anyone visiting the lovely city of ShangHai would be to visit the 87th floor of the Grand Hyatt Hotel. It costs just under £20 to get in but that is then allowable against drinks. The views as the buildings light up is amazing. Finally make sure you use the underground system. It costs pennies, is brand new and very swish.
Overall this tour was a great experience. The majority of the guides were excellent. China is a wonderful country. Full of surprises and very interesting. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this tour company but suggest they seriously review the hotels and the Cruise boat.

As with any tour when you pay upfront, and to a foreign company in a far away country, you do worry weather everything will go smoothly. Set your mind at ease with Travel China. Every transfer went beyond smooth, guides met at the appropriate time, drivers were great and always on time. The lunches were delicious, but overall the guides made the trip. You get to know them, their families, and it made for enjoyable trip thru China. Seemed a lot like a long lost friend showing you their country. Highly recommend

We had a wonderful time on our 11 night China tour. When we arrived at Beijing, we were met by our lovely guide Candy and were transported in a private taxi to our hotel. We really enjoyed our group tour of Beijing. We were lucky to have a group of like minded, fun, interesting people. Candy is a great guide, very genuine, warm and informative. After a full on couple of days seeing the Great Wall and Tiananmen Sq, we flew to Xi’an where we were met by the charming Celine. Spent a very enjoyable couple of days with her, visiting the Terracotta warriors and the city wall. We wished we could have spent another day there. So much to see. We then flew to Chongqing, where we picked up our River cruise for a couple of days up the Yangtze. We finished our tour with a bullet train journey to Shanghai.
It was an excellent trip. So well organised by Travelchinaguide. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them. If you want to make any adjustments to their itinerary, they can make them to suit your needs. Such value for money. We had a great group and lots of happy memories of not only visiting the main tourist spots but also lots of other experiences, that we wouldn’t have, if we had used another company.

We really enjoyed our visit to Xi'an mainly due to our terrific guide, Jacky. We visited such places as the Terra Cotta Army, the Muslim Quarter, the city wall where we had fun riding bicycles, had a great lunch with a local family, and we even learned some tai chi in the city park from local experts. Thank you, Jacky!

I travelled with my friend and we both loved our time in Beijing. We were picked up by our tour guide Candy from Beijing airport at 11am on Tues morning and taken to our hotel via taxi, which we shared with another traveller who was on the same tour as us and staying at the same hotel, it all ran smoothly. The first day you are free to do what you want and try to recover from the jet lag (we travelled from the UK so China is 8 hours ahead), the tour officially started on Weds morning bright and early at 8am.

Candy was so warm, friendly and enthusiastic, and her English was very good. I learnt so much from her about Chinese history and culture, her knowledge is second to none, and she is an excellent guide for Beijing. We were kept amused by her “follow Candy” catchphrase and never lost track of her and each other in the busy Beijing crowds thanks to the signature giant sunflower she carried around as a tour flag lol

For this tour, you can pretty much wear what you want, as long as you’re comfortable to walk around all day in whatever clothing you wear, and you wear comfortable trainers or sandals as there’s a lot of a walking involved. Luckily it was t-shirt weather during our time in China, and it was around 21 degrees on the first day of the tour! However the temperature dropped to 11 degrees the following day, so make sure you bring a couple of jumpers and jackets with you too, just in case.

The guide will provide you with 2 x 500ml bottles of water every day, so you don’t need to worry about bringing water with you. However I would strongly advise you bring tissue with you, a whole toilet roll if possible lol as toilet roll/tissue was scarce in the public toilets, sometimes there was none at all! Also best to bring a small bottle of hand sanitiser.

We stayed in Beijing from Tues-Fri, and managed to see and learn so much about Beijing and China in 3 days. We visited Tianamen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Great Wall, the Silk market and the Summer Place. The architecture in China is unreal, you won’t be disappointed! We had delicious, excellent value for money a la carte lunches along the way, and sampled Beijing’s signature dish Peking duck, we took a rickshaw tour down the original Hutong alleys, and we watched an outstanding Kung Fu show.

In terms of constructive criticism, the hotel in Bejing was nice enough but definitely didn’t look or feel like a 5 star hotel in comparison to the other hotels in Xi’an and Shanghai. The first day was VERY long, almost a 12 hour day, which I think was too much for the first day. Most of us couldn’t keep our eyes open for the Kung Fu show, as amazing as it was. They should have arranged it for the second evening of the tour. I also wasn’t a fan of the Silk market – lots of cheap tat and very aggressive and pushy sellers, not my scene. I chose to get a foot massage instead of shopping lol. And we didn’t get to take a photo at the Olympic National Stadium, as advertised, but no biggie considering everything else we got to visit and experience.

Overall it was a fantastic trip to Beijing and I would highly recommend it to everyone. Thank you Candy and thank you TravelChinaGuide for an excellent service! I hope to see you again sometime in the future.

With so many organized tours advertised online for Beijing Great Wall, I was lucky to find China Tours. I was mainly interested in the Great Wall and the Terracotta Warriors and to learn the history of China. China Tours did not disappoint, I saw everything I signed up for and much much more. The tour was great value for money and extremely well organised. Especially I want to mention our tour guide Linda who is amazing! She is so well informed about the history of The Wall and Beijing there was no question she could not provide an answer for. She is very responsible and helpful and shows a genuine care for the family she creates which is her tour group; I still smile when I think of Linda and how relaxing it was to be guided by her. I highly recommend this China Tour as it delivers everything that is detailed on the itinerary at a very high level of professionalism and eight days is just right if you are time poor but really want to see the main cultural highlights of China. The timing of each event was just perfect and if we wished to spend more time, Linda allowed us to do so. In eight days I saw so much and learned so much and met so many interesting people, especially when we were privileged to go into the homes of local people. From Airport pickup, accommodation, supplied meals to final goodbye was definitely value! Thank you Linda and China Tours, all the best for 2019.
