About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- danielcB9838MH0 contributionsWhat an incredible experience! Our 6 day safari including Ngorongoro, Tarangire, and Serengeti National Parks and stays at 4 different tent camps was an incredible adventure, especially thanks to our guide, Isack. His passion for the region and ability to find wildlife surely led to the diversity of sights and sounds we experienced. He’s extremely knowledgeable and we very much enjoyed his company. All of the lodging exceeded our expectations with practical comfort, King beds, great meals and friendly service. Looking back we wouldn’t change a thing. This was our richest experience in decades of travel. Thanks Alika!Written 23 March 2025
- jenniferwC9036HA0 contributionsJustin is the GOAT!The entire safari was wonderful but mostly because of Justin, our guide. Always calm, even when we had to change a tire and always humble (we told him he should brag about finding us 5 rhino but he would never be that way). We had so many fond memories and laughs with him. He has so much knowledge of every animal and knows where to look to find new things. We all were sad to say goodbye to him. Lucky for us when we returned from Zanzibar, we received an unplanned trip back to the airport with the him. If anyone is allowed to request a guide, please request Justin!! Oh, he also taught a lot of Swahili. My Swahili is terrible but not because of his efforts!Written 16 March 2025
- 882gregoryr0 contributionsJustin, Asante SanaOur time with Justin was amazing. The BEST guide around. We found the big 5, the ugly 5, most of the small 5 and the cute 5! The stories and memories we have will flow for decades to come. Thank you Justin for making this a trip of a lifetime. We hope to come back soon! Maisha MarefuWritten 14 March 2025
- Ann_Prt0 contributionsTrip of a Lifetime!I don’t know where to start with our amazing safari! We traveled as a group of 4 friends, and this is our first safari. We only hoped to see animals and relax. We were shocked at just how much we saw! All of the big 5, giraffes playing, cheetahs & serval cats catching prey, SO MANY lions! Our guide Justin is one of the most brilliant people I’ve ever met- not only did he know an encyclopedia worth about each animal, he knew it in several languages! When we told the camp staff what we saw each day they all agreed Justin is the ‘GOAT’… we 100% agree! We saw FIVE RHINO together. 5!! He found animals everywhere, and had answers for every question we could think of. Not to mention, he is such a fun, humble, and kind person! He fit right in with our group and made us all feel so welcomed. The lodges/camps also had the best staff, and we were so comfortable even in the middle of the bush. The food… all of the food… it was SO GOOD. We all agree this was our best vacation ever, and I can’t wait to come back for more adventures (hopefully with Justin as a guide again!!) THANK YOU JUSTIN!!!Written 12 March 2025
- Kfen110 contributionsTrip of a lifetime! They say an African safari is the trip of a lifetime and this did not disappoint. We did the 8 night/9 Day safari in Tanzania and the gorilla trek in Rwanda. Justin picked us up at the airport and took care of our every need the entire week. If we asked to see something ie: a giraffe drinking, Justin made it happen. Justin could spot animals from an amazing distance, he was an encyclopedia of knowledge. I can't say enough about how incredible he made our experience. It is hard to describe in words what it is like to be 5 feet from a male lion, to see wildebeest and zebras migrate, to see rhinos, hippos and so many more that I would run out of space if I listed them. We took the balloon ride, not only were the views breathtaking but we were treated like royalty. The accommodations, from the migration camps to the fancier lodges were filled with amazing people who greeted us with such warmth and took such good care of us. We didn't think it could get better, then we went to Rwanda. Juvenal picked us up at the airport and we began our journey to the jungle to see gorillas. Juvenal made sure we had what we needed and got us where we needed to be, giving us a personal history of Rwanda along the way. Again I am at a loss for words about what it is like to be 5 feet away from a silverback, to see a one year old swing above you or to be in the presence of a gorilla family. If you are thinking about a safari make sure it is a safari/gorilla trek and do it now! As far as Stacy the owner, you don't necessarily feel like your hand is held through the process and you overthink all of it. Then you arrive and every single detail of your trip is perfect, her guides love working for her and it shows in their dedication. She plans your trip of a lifetime, so hand it over sit back and listen to the sounds of the wild.Written 10 March 2025
- Peter S0 contributionsAs excellent as ever.We used Duma Explorer a year ago, and we're pleased that we could use them again a year later. We requested a specific itinerary, which was quite detailed, taking in two different camps in Ndutu and the Serengeti, and return flights from Arusha. Stacy took time to ensure that we got exactly what we wanted, even down to my fussy requests about flight times! Our guide Msangi was excellent - knowledgeable, safe, respectful of the wildlife and environment, and very patient. We hope we get him again next time.Written 2 March 2025
- 728pattih0 contributionsTour of some Tanzanian parks with Duma Explorer/ Alika AfricaThis was a dream trip for my mother and me. The team at Duma Explorer put together the perfect itinerary for a recently retired wildlife biologist from the US National Park Service and her 87-year-old mother - quite a feat! We spent 12 days exploring and experiencing Arusha, Tarangire, Ngorongoro, the Ndutu region, Serengeti, and Zanzibar. We both thoroughly enjoyed the trip. All the places we stayed were fantastic – I have a new appreciation for what a “tent camp” can be! Adding in a night drive in Tarangire, a walk in Ndutu, and snorkeling at Chumbe Island were great additions to the experience. Thanks so much to Stacy for working with us to put the trip together. I can’t say enough about how fantastic our guide Isack Msuya was – I will always be grateful for his sharing with us his deep knowledge the natural and cultural heritage of Tanzania. Extra thanks for all his help with the birds, and I hope to be back in 2026!Written 23 February 2025
- basscatSanFrancisco0 contributionsAmazing experience, highly recommendedWe just returned from an excellent trip with Duma Explorer/Alika Africa and can't recommend this travel company enough! Our safari through Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti was like nothing I'd ever experienced and I still can't get over the amount of different animals we saw. Our guide Justin was so knowledgable about the area and the wildlife. He was also a nice person to spend time with, which is important because you are packed into that jeep for long periods of time traveling around and viewing animals. We felt well taken care of by this travel company and the lodges they booked us into. I usually plan out my own trips, but it was so nice to get Stacy's expertise in laying out our itinerary, not to mention having every pick up/drop off, flight and hotel/camp set up for us. I don't know Tanzania well and I wouldn't have done even close to as good a job on my own. After the safari, we flew to Chumbe Island in Zanzabar, which I highly recommend (stay three nights!) and then flew home from Stone Town. I was so impressed by the quality of the food and helpful, friendly staff at each location. Amazing experience.Written 18 February 2025
- veratravels19950 contributionsUnforgettable Safari ExperienceI had the most incredible three day safari with Justin! It was just us and a car. We went to Tarangerie and Ngorogoro. He was so knowledgeable and friendly and kind. I saw everything (except cheetah and leopard this time) so I will be back!Written 17 February 2025
- 82teresaa0 contributionsExcellent custom tour from Tarangire to Central SerengetiGetting the pre-trip information was a little difficult. It required multiple inquiries. However, the tour itself was exactly what we wanted. We did a custom tour of 4 different areas from Tarangire to Central Serengeti for just me and my husband. Our tour guide was Justin, who was fabulous! He was a great driver, which isn't easy in the large Tanzanian parks with very rough roads. Justin knew every bird and animal at a glance and I was never able to stump him with all of my questions about the animals. He knew all their social behaviors and exactly where to look to find them. What was really great about Justin was that he was just as interested in the animals as we were, even after 8 years of guiding. He took videos and pictures because he wanted to. This was very helpful because he shared them with us when we were so enthralled that we failed to shoot video ourselves. Justin was also very good at working with the main office whenever we had a question. We stayed in 3 different tented camps. Nyumbani in Central Serengeti had the best food and hot water 24-hours/day. Some camps only provide hot water at certain times of day. I travel with a CPAP machine and all of the camps were able to provide overnight power for it. We worked with Duma to arrange this ahead of time, so if you are a CPAP user, don't assume that it will work unless you arrange it before you go. Some camps have limited power at night. We also have a dairy allergy and all of the accommodations were very good about providing us with dairy-free food. Again, express your allergy needs when you arrange your trip to make sure it can be accommodated. Overall, there was more food than we could eat!Written 16 February 2025
- 155billa0 contributionsA well planned and executed Tanzanian safariWe took a ten day custom tour of northern Tanzania, stopping in Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro, and southern and central Serengeti. The tour was impeccably planned, from pickup at the airport to the first rate accommodations both in Arusha and out in the bush. In fact, Duma switched one camp we had booked because they had heard from clients that the camp was subpar. Our guide, Justin, was perfection. Besides his knowledge of the area and how to navigate the rough roads, he could identify any animal, bird, reptile, tree or bush we asked about. But most important, he enjoyed being there and seeing the animals with us. We travel a lot and have never had a guide that was also interested in taking photos of what we were seeing. Tanzania is a wonderful place and I cannot recommend Duma enough for an agency to help plan a trip.Written 14 February 2025
- veratravels19950 contributionsAn unforgettable experience lead by a kind and incredibly talented team!Having been to many places on this beautiful continent I was very excited to fulfill a childhood dream of climbing and summiting Kilimanjaro. With the guides and the porters and one other person (a small group was much preferred so I was excited to see it wasn’t 15 people like some other groups) it was still a very challenging experience. I could not have done this without Coleman (Grand master) and his expertise on monitoring for mountain sickness (altitude sickness), Dickson who is so kind and attentive and went above and beyond always! A special shout out to having female porters on the team and Mariam’s kind caring presence and endless positivity to help us keep going! And last, but not least Ernest’s continuous steady presence that makes even the most stressed person feel calm and capable. It was an unforgettable experience that has me wondering if re-locating should be to Arusha!Written 12 February 2025
- rlL3157QV0 contributionsThe right choice for your safariHoly moly what an adventure, worthy of a 10-year anniversary trip. Our guide Ebenezer was a gem of a human being. He answered our million questions, knew the good spots to hit and ensured we had a fantastic trip. He was always there for us and I will never forget the experience with him Thank you! All around amazing trip with just the right amount of time in each place. I will never forget the sites and sounds. We ticked all boxes, up close to every animal. Even spent over an hour with a pride of lions with cubs. We did it all.Written 11 February 2025
- Travel6003290 contributionsUnforgettable trip of a lifetimeWhere to even begin? Our decision to go on this trip happened very fast, many people told me we would never be able to organize it but nothing is impossible for Stacy. She planned the most incredible trip for us that words or pictures don't even to do justice. Every step of the way she was there to assist, even when we were 11 hours ahead and Air Tanzania changed our flight at the last minute. Her knowledge of the country makes her standout among many tour operators that claims to be the best. And then there is Isack. Isack was our guide and I am lucky enough to call him my friend now; his love and passion for his country, the animals, the nature were beyond words. We fell in love with Tanzania and the people, at every lodge, we felt welcome, we loved bush TV and sitting with the Masai to learn about their culture and traditions. The local team in Arusha was so welcoming and wonderful though we only met them briefly. Asante Sana Stacy, Isack and the whole Alika Africa team. We will come back. - C5575EYevang0 contributionsAmazing safari in every wayWe have just finished the most incredible 10 day safari with Duam Explorer. We had the absolute fortune to work with Halifa Msangi as our guide and between his company and expertise, the awesome safari truck, the lodges and of course the wildlife we cannot say enough great things about the experience. From the first contact with Stacy, our trip was customized to be exactly what we were looking for and every element of the experience exceeded our expectations. If you choose to work with the Duma Explorer team I can assure you it will be a decision you never regret. Thank you Stacy, Halifa and the whole team!Written 26 December 2024

GUYS....you gotta listen to me. Duma Explorer is the best. We did a 7 day trek up Kilimanjaro and a two-day safari with a family of teenagers and a 10 year-old. We have never done anything like this before, so we weren't sure how it was going to go. All of the guides were AMAZING!!! Genuinely honest and good people. Their English is great, and they even helped us learn a little Swahili while we were there! They were so so so helpful and we all made it to the top!!! They even helped us organize and pick up our COVID tests before our return flight. The camping gear they provided was top-notch as well. We felt so spoiled while we were on the mountain haha. I cannot stress enough how much I would recommend this company for your adventures in Tanzania.

Our trek with Duma was absolutely incredible!!! It's crazy how much thought, effort, and supplies goes into a Kilimanjaro trek (especially for a family of 8), but Duma takes care of it all. Our mountain guides were incredible - friendly, encouraging, patient, experienced, and safe. The porters were cheerful, hardworking, and really fun to talk with. Duma is a founding member of the Kilimanjaro Porter Assistance Project, meaning all of their porters are paid fairly, have a manageable load and good sleeping conditions, and eat three meals a day. This is NOT the case with other companies. Every effort was taken to make sure our trek was as comfortable and successful as possible. Absolutely loved it! Book with Duma!

It was a dream to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro. Duma Explorer/Alika Africa made this dream come true. All the organisation was great: as soon as we landed we were welcomed and taken to the hotel where we had the briefing with the guide to check the gears and we spent the night. The following day we started for the 7 days trekking along the Machame Route. Our crew was amazing : really kind and I can say they did a fantastic job to provide us the best support to reach the summit. Good quality 4 seasons tent, a careful nutrition to have energy for each day, a check of the physical condition every evening...these are just some examples of what is offered.
Really really satisfied of this adventure!

In October our family was hesitant about traveling to Tanzania during the pandemic. However, we decided to go and we are so glad we did! Our climb up Kili with Duma Explorer was a memory that will last a lifetime. It was a beautiful and amazing accomplishment. Duma Explorer made the trip smooth and so easy! The staff and guides at Duma are incredible and we left feeling like they are part of our family! If you are remotely thinking of going to Tanzania and climbing Kili, don't hesitate, book with Duma, and they will take care of everything! They are definitely the BEST tour company in Tanzania!

This was the coolest experience of my life. Unforgettable and amazing. Sifuni was our driver and he helped make the experience great. You can tell he is so knowledgeable and really wants to help you see the big 5. The camps we visited were great and everything was organized. I was able to leave some luggage and they brought it back after so I didn’t have to carry during the whole safari. We saw everything the big 5, the ugly 5, river crossing and lions eating. Sifuni was great tour guide. I will be back!

The travel of our life!!! We chose Duma Explorer/Alika Africa thanks to our friend that went here last years. And we did the best choice!! The Kilimanjaro ascending was amazing... our guides Ema and Shaban and all the crew, all of them... made our dreams come true... with the Kilimanjiaro philosophy of PolePole we really reach the summit. During all the path they take care of us in the most amazing way... they cuddle us with their attention, their simpaty, but even readiness and strenght!! Porters are my new heroes!!! I have not enough word to thanks them!! At every camp you have your own tent a private toilette hot water and great food (Jamal you are great!) All brought by these amazing guys.
THANKS THANKS AND THANKS AGAIN ALIKA AFRICA!! ASANTE SANA!!!

Having experienced the impeccable organiazation by Duma on a Tanzania family trip 2014 (one week safari and one week on Zanzibar for me, my wife and our five kids) it was a no-brainer to choose Duma when I, my wife and one of our youngest cubs (now 17 years) decided to hike/climb Kilimanjaro. In spite of our previous excellent experience Duma managed to exceed our expectations! Our head guide (Emmanuel), assistant guide (Colman) and waiter (Dickson) proved to be an absolute dream-team together with Jamal (cook) and the remaining 12 persons in our support crew. Emmanuel, Colman and Dickson were very professional with a high level of security as well as supportive, encouraging - and not least fun and easy to be around.
The tent-crew kept our tents (a small 3-person sleeping tent and a larger mess-tent for meals and storage of equipment) in excellent condition and the toilet-tent was always nice and clean (very important!). Jamal prepared very nice rich meals that we ate with good apetite during the entire trip (nope, no AMS). We were actually talking about how we probably were putting on weight climbing Kibo... :-)
The hike was challanging, no doubt about that, but with the excellent support by primarily Emmanuel, Colman and Dickson (called the Goon Squad by our son) there was never any question whether we'd all make it.
Summit night was the most challanging day starting at midnight under a crispy starry clear sky. Reaching the crater rim at dawn and finally standing at Uhuru point just before nine am under a sunny clear sky was absolutely fantastic!
If you have any thoughts what so ever of climbing Kilimanjaro - go for it! You will not regret it! And if you decide to do it, I couldn't recommend Duma stronger. This company is amazing - and when hearing from the employers during the hike that this is the company basically everybody in the business want to work for, well, choosing Duma is an absolute no-brainer.
