Awesome views of Alexandria and the Mediterranean Sea
The citadel is constructed over the erstwhile Alexandria Lighthouse that was destroyed many years ago. It has fantastic views of the Mediterranean Sea that surrounds the castle from 3 sides. The structure from inside has limited view spots. It’s the outside turret walls that offer great views of the sea and Alexandria city. There is ample parking outside at a nominal fee. The corniche at Alexandria becomes quite crowded with double parking etc. So factor that additional time to manoeuvre the crazy traffic. The Library is on the other side of the corniche so one cannot avoid this traffic to visit both the sites.

This impressive fort was built to protect Alexandrea from pirates
The Qaitbay Citadel was built by Sultan Qaitbay around 1477 AD on the Mediterranean Sea Coast . It protected Alexandria from marauders attempting to gain access to the city by sea to the Eastern Harbor area.

          Qaitbay Citadel
The citadel's amazing architecture, and panoramic views of the sea, make it an enjoyable destination for all ages. However, there are five tips to keep in mind: - To fully understand the historical significance of the Qaitbay Citadel, you should hire a professional tour guide as this will provide you with valuable insights. - The Qaitbay Citadel can get crowded, to avoid large crowds and enjoy a more serene experience, consider visiting it in the early morning. This will give you a better chance to appreciate the architecture and take beautiful photographs without too many people in the background. - Don't rush through your visit; take some time to soak in the beautiful panorama and enjoy the sea breeze. There are also several vantage points and rooftop areas within the citadel that provide fantastic photo opportunities.

          Beautiful landmark on the sea
This is one of my favorite places that we saw. It is beautiful and has even more beautiful views. Be prepared; the steps are strenuous! You can take a much or as little time as you like to walk through it. About 45 minutes is probably ideal. Really pretty place to visit.

Good tour with an unenthused guide
Very good Itinerary and good driver. Our guide Shimaa we found to be lazy. She provided the minimum information as quickly as possible but did answer questions a little more fully. We had to keep calling her back to us as she wandered away. Most importantly the guide short-circuited our tour and skipped some very important features, which we only found out about afterwards. No extra stops or insights were offered and the tour ended 2 hours early, without even going to the palace gardens which Shimaa talked us out of. We would take this tour again with a different guide, but overall we felt cheated. This was not the experience that we had come to expect by hiring a private guide in Egypt.

Shaima was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable of the histories of Egypt and the sites we visited. Would definitely love to have her guidance on any excursion in Alexandria!

          Rashid city
I really liked to see the rural and town life in Rosetta. The Osman house was very interesting. Marwa also drove us to the point where the Nile meets the Mediterranean. The boat ride on the Nile was really cool. Marwa was very kind and knowledgeable.

          Fantastic professional Egyptian guide
Fantastic quick tour of some of Alexandria's gems around the Corniche. Qaitbay Citadel is a 4acre photographer's paradise with hidden 'marble granite' paranomic window spots for the curious eyed.

Nice tour but the organization needs to be improved
We made clear since the beginning that we had to take a train to Cairo at 5pm And they proposed us an early pick up at 7am. On the same morning, after having already checked-out and when the guide didn’t show up, we were told that the pick up time was delayed of 2 hours. Considering that El Alamein and the Italian cemetery are over 1.5 hour drive from Alexandria we then had to rush the rest of the visit, we could only see Qatibay citadel from distance and instead of a seated lunch we had takeaway sandwiches to eat on the train.

          Just another tour
This was interesting and it sits on the Mediterranean. They have a lot of beautiful sites inside. I enjoyed viewing the back of the Citadel because the view of the Mediterranean was phenomenal. Also the inside was very historic. I think you would enjoy the tour but honestly it’s just another tour. Must see site.

This library is simply incredible! Definitely take the free one hour tour which will give you an excellent overview. We have never been so impressed by a library. Although the ancient library is no longer this one should be up there as a wonder. Wished we had more time to just browse around. You can easily spend a day here and they have several collections for an additional fee.
