The area has been settled for at least 15,000 years as evidenced by the markings in Badanj Cave, which experts have dated 12000-16000 BC. Throughout its long history, Stolac has been an outstandingly cultured town. No other town in Bosnia and Herzegovina has produced such a rich array of intellectuals, artists, poets and leaders.

The Old Town of Trebinje was established in the 18th century and soon developed into a trading & crafts centre named Kastel. There is barely a town in Herzegovina that was not erected alongside a freshwater river.

Day 4: Emerald Delight

Stop At: Jablanicas Lake, Mostar Bosnia and Herzegovina
After a delightful breakfast, we will embark on a magnificent journey to the North.

Nestled on a terraced plateau below the intimidating peaks of Prenj and Cvrsnica Mountains, Jablanica teeters between the Mediterranean and continental climates. The Neretva River carves its way through the centre, dividing the massive mountain ranges. It was at Jablanica that Tito and the partisans, burdened with 4,000 wounded others, won the unlikely Battle of the Neretva during World War II. The blown-up bridge that the partisans used to trick the Nazis still hangs from the high cliffs as a reminder of one of the partisans' greatest victories. In addition, there is a war memorial on the peak of Mount Prenj (2,155 meters), dedicated to Tito and the brave men and women who climbed and crossed this cruel - and beautiful – mountain in the most trying of times.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Konjic Bridge, Konjic, Bosnia, Konjic 88400 Bosnia and Herzegovina
For lunch we are going to explore one of the most serene settings in Europe.

Konjic is attractive far more by its abundance of natural beauty that completely surrounds the town. The Neretva River running through the centre and Prenj Mountain hovering behind dominate Konjic. The old town is quite nice to stroll through. The center of town is rather pleasant too, with stunning views in every direction. The main street is often closed to vehicle traffic and is filled with the young and old walking, hanging out in café's or selling their wares along the riverside markets. People in Konjic are very easy going and friendly so feel free to ask someone for directions or to engage in some small talk. One of the not-to-be-missed attractions is certainly Kamena cuprija (Stone Bridge) built in 1682. The epicenter of the Konjic tourism offer is most certainly the area around Boracko Lake and the valley of Glaveticevo. This partial glacier lake has bungalows, a hotel and camping facilities. Most of the outdoor activities begin from this region: hiking, camping, rafting, kayaking, village tourism, canoeing, mountain biking and even paragliding.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Vrelo Bosne, Ilidza Area, Sarajevo Bosnia and Herzegovina
Situated 12km southwest of Sarajevo, Ilidza has long been a close retreat for city dwellers to enjoy the thermal springs, recreation centre and the lovely park at the source of River Bosna called Vrelo Bosna. The park has acres of lush green fields, gushing fresh waters that spring from the surrounding mountains, a recently upgraded park where children can play and two tasty traditional restaurants near one of the largest cascades in the park. The springs are accessible by car, foot, bike or horse and carriage. The long tree-lined aleja is closed to vehicle traffic and is perfect for a jog, walk or bike ride. It is possible to take a 10KM horse and carriage ride from the top of the avenue in an old carriage from the Austro-Hungarian period.

Day 5: Pre-Historic Pyramids

Stop At: Zavicajni Muzej Visoko, Alije Izetbegovica no. 29, Visoko 71300 Bosnia and Herzegovina
After breakfast, we are departing on what will for sure be the most memorable destination in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Despite only being a 20-minute drive from Sarajevo, Visoko falls politically under the Zenica-Doboj Canton in central Bosnia. The town is best known for its leather smiths, whose craft has been practised for over 500 years. High-quality, reasonably priced leather goods can be purchased in the old carsija. KTK Leather Company is the largest factory of its kind in the country. Their products can also be found in Sarajevo's carsija but you're likely to pay more than if you bought them here. The old part of Visoko is a mini version of Sarajevo's Bascarsija. Visoko reached the peak of its development during the late Middle Ages. It became a strong social, political and economic centre and had the status of a royal town. Its name was recorded for the first time in 1355, in a chart issued to the merchants of Dubrovnik by ban Tvrtko I. On the vast plain near the town were the residences of the bans and the kings. Foreign envoys were received and state assemblies of all Bosnian territories were held in Visoko. Visoko was also an important trading centre and, like many central Bosnian towns, had a considerable colony of merchants from Dubrovnik. The numerous charters and letters issued and registered in Visoko or its surroundings show the significant role of the town at that time. Today its main role is that of a small industrial and trading town. This, however, is starting to change with a new archaeological discovery in the summer of 2005. A specialist from Houston University in the United States who has studied pyramids around the world for over fifteen years has claimed to have found Europe’s first and only pyramid. Visocica Mountain, home to the medieval Bosnian fortress, is now believed to be a man-made, perfectly symmetrical structure – namely a pyramid. Archaeological digs have given great legitimacy to this claim as experts and media from around the globe continue to keep their eye on this most miraculous discovery.

Stop At: Sarajevo City Center, Vrbanja 1, Sarajevo 71000 Bosnia and Herzegovina
As we return to beautiful Sarajevo, here you will get an inside look at this spectacular city. In the evening time, you will be treated to a luxurious fine dining and wine pairing experience.

Sarajevo is a city in which even strangers can feel at home. Neither geographically expansive nor characterised by large buildings, the city retains a particular, arresting charm with its abundance of busy cafés and abiding tradition of hospitality. The city's breathtaking backdrop of seemingly endless hills and towering mountains have in a sense always isolated the city, creating a timeless world, which despite its seclusion has always kept its doors open to the rest of the world. Although Sarajevo is a capital city typified by the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it also possesses a unique ambience that seeps into the soul. This city epitomizes a partial centuries-old struggle against outside influences combined with the absorption of these influences into one of the most diverse cultures in Europe. Indeed, few places on earth feature an Orthodox and a Catholic church, a mosque and a synagogue within easy walking distance of each other. If there were any city in Europe that effortlessly straddles east and west, it is Sarajevo. Here the Byzantine and Ottoman empires of the east and the Roman, Venetian and Austro-Hungarian empires of the west left an indelible mark through culture, traditions and religions. A walk through Sarajevo is a walk through its past. From the oriental Ottoman quarters lined with sweet shops, café's and handicraft workshops, to the administrative and cultural centre of Austro-Hungarian times, Sarajevo encompasses the very best of both worlds. In Sarajevo, people have time for family and friends. It is often said that a man's wealth here is not measured in his material belongings but rather in his friendships.
