Alina was an engaging, knowledgeable, and thorough guide. The tour was scheduled for 3 hours and she spent 4 hours with us! She taught us a lot about Romanian Jewish history and arranged for us to see all the Jewish sites in Bucharest and meet a leader of each institution: 1) Holy Union Temple (History Museum of the Jewish Romanian Community where we spoke with the director; 2) Great Polish Synagogue (Holocaust history museum) where we learned from a local Jewish volunteer; 3) Choral Temple where we heard from Gabriel, the gabbai; 4) State Yiddish Theater where we met with the director; 5) We walked by Lion of Judah square and the Laude-Reut secular Jewish school with 1% of the students are Jewish. After our tour, we ate a delicious lunch at Abraham, an Israeli kosher dairy restaurant nearby. Tours by Locals is great to deal with for wonderful tours.

Alina was an amazing tour guide and shared with us a huge amount of information about Romanian Jewish history and the current Jewish footprint in Bucharest. She brought us to the Yiddish Theatre for a fascinating tour of the theatre, and provided us with information on restaurants and other interesting sites in the city. I would highly recommend booking her if visiting Bucharest.

Our day with Alina was the perfect introduction to Bucharest and Romania as a whole. I can’t recommend her enough! It was like spending the day with a lovely friend who knows all the best things to do and see in the city. She is knowledgeable, thoughtful. and flexible. I had emailed in advance to see if we could also visit the Jewish neighborhood and she adjusted our tour accordingly. She even came prepared with photos of the building interiors for the sites that weren’t open on Saturday. In addition, Alina provided so many useful resources before we even arrived in Romania…info about the local cuisine, recommendations for restaurants, tips on sites to visit, etc. And immediately after our tour, she sent additional links to many of the topics we discussed and other recommendations for the rest of our trip. Alina was an amazing guide! Not only would I recommend her, I hope to return sometime to have her guide me again. While in Bucharest, I had only a few hours to learn about Bucharest and its Jewish history. She sent me background material before my trip, reached out to many of the Jewish institutions to see who could accommodate my schedule as she designed our tour, and kept me informed each step along the way. Given her relationships with many of the guides and personnel at the sites, she ensured that I had a very special experience. The other local guides were able to focus on my interests and questions. After our tour, she followed up with more material of interest to me and even photos and details of how my donations which I volunteered at various sites had been used. While my family emigrated from Bucharest more than a hundred years ago, the experience allowed me a form of connection and to get a small glimpse of life during that era -- all because of Alina.

We did not tour with Alina, but she absolutely saved our trip! We had another tour company booked and the guide did not show up. Scrambling to try and find a tour guide to do the castle tour on the last day of our trip, Alina quickly got us in touch with a guide who picked us up in 30 minutes time. Without Alina’s help we would not have seen the main attraction that we came to see in Romania. Alina was so nice and very concerned to make sure we enjoyed our trip. I would recommend Alina to anyone, as I have no doubt that her tour is amazing!

Alina is a great guide. She knows the material and is enthusiastic about it. She's also a very friendly and pleasant person, with a good sense of humor, so that it is very enjoyable to spend time with her. We had several private tours with Alina of Wheninbucharest.com tour group. Alina and Benjamin gave us a 3 hours orientation session of Bucharest and Romania before all our tours. It was extremely informative and useful, their in depth knowledge of the country and city is very valuable to us as first timer. Benjamin has in depth knowledge of wine, wine making and all the wine regions in Romania, he gave us recommendations of different types of wine from different regions which turns out to be excellent choice of wine. Alina gave us a run down of all the dos and don’ts and she was our guide to Contanta, she is a highly professional tour guide, direct us to all the great eating places in Bucharest and the rest of the country. She is a very considerate person. Sever was our guide to 2 tours - the best of Bucharest tour and the Hidden Bucharest tour. We totally enjoyed our time with him. We were able to see the beautiful architecture, enjoyed food at the local market, had lunch at a local restaurant and learned about the history and culture of the city and the country. Alina is incredibly knowledgeable and is able to create an incredibly well-planned experience and can be flexible. She is super personable and able to give the perfect insight into Romanian culture and history with a balance of fun. No topic is off limits for discussion, and she is a great listener. Great places, great people (most of the know English language, more that other European capitals) so there will be less issues regarding the communication. The knowledge of the foreign languages is also linked to the relatively higher (than media) level of professionalism. I forgot to mention the excellent food that you will find there.

Alina is knowledgeable, bright and spoke a wonderful English. There wasn’t a question she left unanswered. She accommodated our strange sightseeing schedule and fulfilled all our requests in as far as what we wanted to visit.
