Total Bucharest Tour: Absolutely Bohemian Small-Group Tour
US$135.61
Overview
Pair Romania’s tumultuous history with the best bites in Bucharest on this full-day outing that combines two popular tours. Explore the capital’s most important sights plus hidden treasures, from medieval Old Town to Communist relics and tucked-away Bohemian courtyards. Travel by foot and by city tram, stopping at markets and vendors along the way to sample typical Romanian food.
What to Expect
Begin in Revolution Square, a perfect place for a lesson in modern Romanian history, including the 1989 people’s uprising. Follow the grand boulevard of Victory Avenue, passing landmarks, such as the Kretzulescu Church, and hearing more local lore along the way. Journey back to medieval Europe inside the well-preserved Old Town, once an important crossroads between Europe and the Ottoman Empire. Sink your teeth into a soft pretzel (corvig) before exploring vampire legends at the former palace of Dracula inspiration Vlad Tepes.

Rest and refuel in the garden of a turn-of-the-century townhouse with a spread of typical Romanian specialties, such as goat cheese, cured meat, freshly baked bread, spring onions, and local craft beer. Walk it off with a tour of lovely Mantuleasa, a former Jewish quarter, and the old Armenian district while learning about life in 19th-century and interwar Bucharest.

Sip a cold Romanian weissbier and then see how locals get around with a ride on the public tram down Mosilor Street past Communist-era remnants. Get off near Obor Market for a tasting tour. Browse colorful vendor stalls and sample Romanian brandy (palinca), cheese, mici (skinless sausages), and a fresh Wallachian doughnut to finish on a sweet note.

This is mostly walking. There is a ride on a street trolley/light rail and a ride on the subway. This bypasses the popular tourist places. We walked through local neighborhood streets as we went to the places the locals go... More
