About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- mcleodlouise0 contributionsRelaxing trip for our holidayWe opted for the half day pass with a poolside bed. What a treat the day was. Would have enjoyed a map of the island on arrival or on the menu to see all of the features. The music was louder than I would have liked, especially where our bed was located so couldn’t enjoy reading. But loved the food, swimming options and excellent customer service.Written 5 October 2024
- Scenic3021600 contributionsLoud thumping music spoils otherwise lovely spotSuch a lovely spot but the loud constant thumping bass music totally spoils it, there is no escape and the restaurant- although the food was great - was the loudest - what a awful shameWritten 16 September 2024
- U8742SZchloem0 contributionsyou're a couple looking for a relaxing day I'd give this a missThe views were amazing, crystal clear water and so much sea life to see. We booked a daybed for the day which was directly infront of the infinity pool. I wouldn't recommend this however, as we relaxed by the pool several kids were screaming launching themselves into the pool and doing water gymnastics. They splashed us several times before their parents asked them to move away from our daybed. I think the staff need to uphold the no diving in the pool rule as this was quite frustrating - as a couple we did not expect a beach club to have so many children around, it is definitely more family focused than we expected and theres no adult only areas. If you're a couple looking for a relaxing day I'd give this a miss.Written 21 August 2024
- Suzanne B0 contributionsOur goddaughter held her wedding there. It was a private event and we were blessed to be part of this beautiful union ❤️Malamala you never fail to disappoint. I tried writing on the full review page but I am blocked. We attended our Goddaughters wedding there recently. Wow wow wow!! The wedding of the century. As usual the staff were amazing. The lovely Amelia was there to greet me. I adore her. The staff were engaging, attentive, happy, polite and warm. Everything we could ever hope for. This wedding was special and we had a glorious 6 days of celebrations topped off by the private wedding. Having the island to ourselves was magnificent. The food was delicious as usual. The drinks flowed. The dancing, singing love and joy filled the air. The staff make all the difference. As an ex long haul flight attendant I pay attention to detail with customer service. And the staff at Malamala go above and beyond. This was not a half day cruise. It was a private wedding (half day cruises are perfect too-plenty of time for couples with young children). The boat was privately chartered as well. What a WONDERFUL day and night! Amelia I love you. I love all the staff but especially you and my boys from Naitasiri who did a swim chase after me as the boat pulled away! 😂😂😂😂. People loved it. Never mind we are from the same province. 😂😂😂. This was so funny the whole boatload were laughing so much 😂😂😂. All of us a on a wedding high. We want to repeat it all. I don’t think there will ever be another wedding like this anywhere it was so spectacular. Well done everyone. Thankyou for making our goddaughters wedding so so beautiful!! I’ll be back. I’m always back 😂😂😂 In the meantime this Kai Colo is retreating to her bush! 😂 Lolomas from Suzanne xxxxxWritten 8 August 2024
- 7kaseyj0 contributionsA bit disappointingIt was beautiful, gorgeous ocean views, like paradise, as well as very friendly staff. But honestly, the service wasn’t great. We asked for a beachside cabana because it looked idyllic. And honestly, it was, all for about an hour until we were blasted by the afternoon sun and our unfortunate pale selves started to roast accordingly. We noticed there were some rings set into the roof. Aha! Maybe there’s curtains available. We asked no less than four staff passing by, one indicated that “Yep, he’ll do it” pointing to his mate, and then they said something in Fijian that might have been “Haha, these freakin’ whities can’t cope with a bit of sun!” 😛 Yeah, probably not, but the mate said, “Oh yeah, your butler will do it” and then off they went. The guy who brought out our food said the butler would do it when he got back. Speaking of “the butler”, we didn’t see him again for the rest of the day. One of the other staff suggested he was on his lunch, but didn’t offer to take a drink order. Finally, I gave up and ventured over to the bar and while I was there, the hub to enquire about curtains. No one at the hub could help me, the rings were for hanging up the mattresses at the end of the day. Ok? Fair enough, why didn’t the first person just say that? Could we have a couple more towels so that we could fashion something ourselves. The response was pretty much “No. Next” but being delivered by a gentle Fijian, it was more like vague comment about “Didn’t you realise it was an open sided cabana when you booked?” as she sailed out of that conversation and starting serving someone else. While I was in the mixed sex bathroom, I had an experience that made me a bit uncomfortable too. A Fijian man introduced himself and asked where I was from. He followed that up by saying that he was coming to Australia soon to work as a truck driver and suggested that he wanted to meet up with me while leering at me. I can’t be sure if he was staff, but it was a bit unsettling. Back to the drinks, when I went to the bar to get my own drinks, there was a $FJD “Fiji Five” deal printed on all the brochures for five cocktails from the curated list. They refused to honour it because they were old brochures they said. Tough luck. Sheraton gave me this brochure and made the booking day before yesterday? Maybe they could make sure the big resorts have the most current brochure? Anyway, because the butler went missing, I told the bar staff “just what we had last time, the pina colada thing and the mojito”. Different drinks came out than what we ordered, but they were delicious and I was getting tired of chasing people down to get service. End of the day, they tried to charge us the FJD $99 for two of our drinks and then slap on another FJD $60 for the last two drinks as they were “International cocktails”. I refused to pay that, I ordered four drinks from the FJD “Fiji Four” (Originally Fiji Five) and that’s what I was paying for. That last little thing was what made me decide I’m not going back. Chasing down someone to order something, being roasted alive, and some casual sexual harassment in the bathroom. Pity because I was excited about this one. And then I come on here and management only seems interested in passive aggressive, snarky responses to what have been some genuine concerns by previous guests. Perhaps a constructive response will absolutely make me fall off my chair in astonishment. But I’m not counting on it.Written 1 August 2024
- MartinC62000 contributionsExcellent day tripWe paid around $80 each for three of us to spend the day on Malamala, this included the return boat trip which itself was excellent, soaking in the view and the warm air. The island looks like a gem in the Pacific Ocean, surrounded by turquoise ocean and white sand beaches. The facilities are all tidy and the highlight was the staff who were awesome from arrival to departure. Being an atoll the beach is covered in coral so not all that comfortable walking around without appropriate footwear, but the interior of the island is all smooth curated sand and pathways. The pools are small but really there is a huge ocean out there and the restaurant is adequate for light meals at resort prices. Snorkeled, Kayaked and relaxed in the sun grabbing shade as needed under palm trees that are plentiful. Our 9yr old son abandoned us and kept himself occupied most of the day, feeling entirely safe and making company with other kids on the island. Great value day trip, must do if you've never visited an atoll before and are staying on western side of Viti Levu.Written 16 July 2024
- V307DEnoras0 contributionsA slice of heaven. Highly recommended.A slice of heaven ! A truly special place. We took our 13 and 10 year old sons and they loved it. The staff were so friendly and helpful. A special mention to Paul and Ronnie.Written 15 July 2024
- JND19830 contributionsWorth every penny! I could not recommend enough.Malamala Beach Club was fantastic. We opted for the cabanas and it was the best decision we ever made. Food and drinks were good, the cabana was comfortable and the island is an absolute paradise. Only regret is not going for the full day. We all had an amazing time.Written 13 July 2024
- 580nellyt0 contributionsBest for teens & party goersThe island is beautiful & the staff are friendly but it was a bit underwhelming for the price. The hand day trip is expensive for a family & the food etc at the club is overpriced. I think it’s more suited to teens and young adults than families - the music is loud & the pool area is quite adult. We did have a nice day but I don’t think it offered much more than a nice hotel. If you’re going for the snorkelling I’d suggest trying elsewhere as it’s pretty average. The views are stunning though.Written 2 July 2024
- Shonyci0 contributionsHighlight of our visit to FijiThis was the highlight of our holiday to Fiji. The staff are so helpful and welcoming. They remained professional when dealing with rude and demanding guests. The food was the best we had whilst in Fiji. My only regret is that we did a half day and not a full day. Next visit will be a full day. My kids aged from 3 - 14 all had a great time as well.Written 18 June 2024

What is not included Food and drinks, including alcoholic beverages (available for purchase) What to expect Descend to Beachcomber Island and spend the day however you wish. Lessons in traditional Fijian crafts and glass-bottom boat trips are available, as well as plenty of water sports. Use the provided snorkeling equipment to explore the underwater world or simply relax on the beach and soak up the sun. When you get hungry, take a break for a buffet lunch (included) and then wash it down with a cocktail at the Barefoot Bar.Written 30 March 2024
- lauracatbell0 contributionsFantastic island day experience. So glad I took a chance and booked this trip. I thought it might be too similar to other island experiences I’ve had in the past, but it was unique. The friendly service really made it stand apart. I was fortunate to have been served my Melrose and Millie (Senemillie). Melrose was patient as I explained a couple of allergies I had when I was ordering my meal and he made sure to pass that along to the kitchen staff, who in turn made the most delicious food I’ve eaten in a long time. From Millie I received a fabulous massage, she checked in about pressure and conveyed genuine care that I was getting the massage my body desperately needed. The island is beautiful, take the time to wander around and find the sandiest parts of the beach. About 75 of disembarked the Panther Catamaran after a short, maybe 20-30 minute ride, there was plenty of room for all of us to spread around and explore the island. There’s also paddle boarding, kayaking and snorkeling included. A+Written 24 March 2024

Waste of money. Went for our 20th wedding anniversary paid $671FJ approx. $550AUD to sit on a beach. Paid for a Beachside Grand Cabana, located on the quieter side of the island. They come complete with butler service, lounging mattresses, bean bags and beach chairs. Only to check in and be told we over paid by $165FJ to go towards food and beverage, however, get to the island & 2 hours later, 3 different Cabanas, not even sure if we received what we paid for IS NOT as advertised. Quieter side of the island…shared with 35 other people…DO NOT spend extra money or waste your money to go to this so called private, exclusive adults only resort. In the end it cost $732FJ a lot of money for 5hours. Check out the photos for what $732FJ gives you. DISGRACEFUL.

Service was excellent. We were able to upgrade to a private cabana upon arriving since there was one available (it was Friday afternoon). Our server Sam was attentive, friendly and genuinely helpful - answering all our food and drink questions, as well as giving good recommendations. The whole setup was amazing and easy to navigate your way around. A walk around the atoll takes only 20 minutes! Would recommend for anyone staying in Fiji.

Oh wow. This place does not disappoint. Went during month of June with friends to celebrate a birthday. From the moment we stepped on the island to the time when we had to leave we all felt like kings and queens on our own little tropical paradise. We were fortunate to secure a cabana with a butler overlooking the ocean and right next to the infinity pool. The big bonus was that there was no charge for this unlike other cabanas which you can prebook at varying prices prior to departure. Our butler Sake did not disappoint. He was friendly and serviced our food and beverage needs well. We participated in snorkelling near the jetty which wasn’t too bad. I’d recommend however taking one of the smaller vessel trips out to a reef further from shore as it may be better. Not much coral close to shore, the occasional fish and lots of broken and dead coral. Water was warm but strong current and waves. Food was tasty and fresh. We ordered slider burgers for lunch and a bucket of beer for $50FJD. Spent most of our time in the infinity pool and lazing under the umbrella. Trip over and back was quick and minimal bumps along the way. Highly recommend and value for money too,

I have been going to all the islands here for over 20 years, I thought I would try closer new one for a full day trip but ended up jumping back earlier as what they call sea lice is actually small jelly fish babies and they were in the water and No one told us until too late. 9 yr old was stung all over his body from neck to knees and then had reaction with 3d welts.
Annoying thing was that after it happen they were saying oh yeah sea lice, just need to swim at high tide. People selling the tickets at south sea cruises should have given us a heads up. It wasn't just our experience multiple families at the same time got told the same.
Don't get me wrong really nice island and activities with nice food but all they had to do was advise people on the jelly fish.

We came to Fiji for my wife's 40th birthday. She has always wanted a pool party but having a June birthday, this has never been possible in Australia so we spent her birthday at Malamala. Our group arrived as families and couples but made up around 20 people in total. Once we found a big enough spot on the sand where we could drop our things for the day we headed up for lunch. Staff were always friendly and incredibly accommodating when they saw us trying to work out how we were going to arrange ourselves for lunch. They rearranged tables so we could all sit together. Between us we had a variety of food and drinks and there were nothing but rave reviews from our group. We brought everyone from children to adults and there was plenty for everyone to do all day. We especially liked the tab system.
The only negative was the kayaking (but this wasn't the fault of the staff or tour). I took 2 x 10 year olds around the island where we all had a kayak each. About half way around, the current became a little too strong for the kids to paddle through so they had to leave their kayaks on shore and walk around. I ended up taking mine back and going back for one but the recreation staff member saw no problem in collecting the third one (and paddling back with ease).
Overall, would highly recommend as a day tour!

Our favorite day activity during our stay in Fiji! Highly recommend spending a little more for the daybeds, you won’t be disappointed and they are located surrounding the beautiful infinity pool which is quite convenient. The couples massages were relaxing, located in a more private location surrounded by trees but still close to the sea. Both ladies were very accommodating and just wonderful, we also appreciated the check-in on the pressure level. Whilst poolside were under the care of Nicky, who we nicknamed “Goddess Nicky” because she truly was - she provided excellent service. Nicky was prompt with our food (she actually found us in the pool to let us know it was ready so it didn’t sit - very grateful for that!), kept the drinks flowing and even brought them to us when we were in the pool and she has a sweet personality, friendly and with the best sense of humor! The food was great and there were healthy options available. Drinks were the best we had during our whole trip…these bartenders know what they’re doing at Malamala! Mojitos and Mai Tais were legit. The folks here performed as a tight team and it showed, they have synergy. We really enjoyed the beach-lounge music, not too soft/not too loud - perfect. Everything was freshly updated and clean. Even the sands were combed and grounds well kept….a gorgeous place! Also worth mentioning - this island has a dock with a pier so no shore taxi boats, which is a lot safer if the waves get rough late in the day. I dont know if anything could be done about the flies, this was the only unpleasantness, especially when food or drinks came out. We were told it was the season. Thank goodness we could get into the pool or go walk the shores when we needed to escape the flies for a while. We would definitely return to this heavenly paradise with attentive and friendly team…highly recommend!

Bula Sarah W,
Thank you so much for your detailed and enthusiastic review!
We’re delighted to hear that your day at Malamala was the highlight of your Fiji stay. It’s wonderful to know that the daybeds by the infinity pool, couples massages, and overall setting made your experience special. We’re thrilled that Nicky’s exceptional service earned her the title of “Goddess Nicky” and that she made such a positive impact on your visit.
We’re glad you enjoyed the food and drinks, and that our bartenders impressed you with their mojitos and Mai Tais. It’s great to hear that the beach-lounge music and overall cleanliness added to your enjoyment.
We also appreciate your feedback about the flies and understand inconvenience. We’re always looking for ways to improve and will certainly take your comments into account.
Thank you for your kind words and recommendation. We look forward to welcoming you back to our paradise in the future!

The short boat trip out to the island was packed with people being dropped at other islands. Not obvious how to escape the cabin.
We’re greeted on the island by a man with a sign for pre-booked cabanas. If you were expecting Nick Nack private butler service, you got Nick but not Nack.
Private butler service spasmodic.
SUP use did not open until 2pm, to coincide with the afternoon wind and waves. Peculiar and not helpful to someone who wanted to give this activity a go.
SUPs were all small, some missing fins with broken paddles.
The good news is, if you want seclusion, the private beach cabana was lovely. We were not subject at all to the goings on around the pool and bar area.
A nice touch was being brought a cool minted towel to refresh after lunch. A nicer touch would have been a beach shower next to every private cabana.
Warning: the beach is very sharp coral. You should approach with a pair of old thongs on. Or reef shoes, even better!
After a few glasses of personality, also known as Fiji Gold, the madding crowds became maddening. They were full on during the trip back to port.
It is unclear to me whether Malamala wants to be the party island or the exclusive day escape.
All in all, an enjoyable day but I would not go back unless I was in a beach cabana.
Of the two day trips I took in Fiji on this holiday, Sabre wins hands down.

Thanks for your review and this will be passed on to our General Manager, as you have raised points here that we take very seriously.
We are very open to receiving all types of reviews so that we can be aware of what we need to improve on (and what we do so well, like the cool minted towels).
A beach shower next to every private cabana would be a wonderful luxury to have, however, being such a tiny island, we dont have the luxury of being able to have water on tap (pardon the pun), but we do offer fresh water showers in our bathrooms, so they are available for all visitors.
We are thrilled you also traveled with us on our catamaran Sabre (by South Sea Sailing) and thank you for your review on this product as well.
We do hope to see you again.
Regards

Spent the day at Malamala. Day was lovely, service was great. Recommend water socks as the sand on this island is full of chunky coral and very course. If you have a chance to reserve a cabana, I'd recommend doing so, to not feel rushed to find a chair when getting off the boat. But we didn't have anything reserved and found decent chairs with shade. When getting off the pier, cabanas are mostly to the left of the pier, available lounge chairs have some to the left of the pier, but most are to the right of the pier. However most of the nice sandy beach area to wade into the water is to the left of the pier. After finding a chair, go check in. The boat ride is fairly quick as they use a motorboat to get you there via South Sea, which gives you plenty of time to stay on the island. There are 2 options to leave the island, the early and late boats, both go back to Port Denarau, but the first one is the only one that will have a coach bus if you are staying on the Coral Coast. We misunderstood and thought only the first boat goes to the Coral Coast and not Port. But they both go back into Port Denarau. Nice island, nice staff, nice day.

Just wow! What an island. If I could just spend a week here I would. It's quite small but lots of water activities to keep you busy. The food in the restaurant was great (highly recommend the fish and chips) and all the staff just very happy and chatty. A must see in Fiji!

Having been to a number of Beach Clubs around the Asia Pacific and looking at the pictures online of Malamala i wasnt really blown away. There are a few things in Particular like the lack of effort put into the Architetcure Appeal, Cheap beach Sunbeds and Cabana (Poolside sunbeds were okay thou) looks made me not really wanna spend 150 odd FJd just to visit the place and extras for the Beds Cabanas. But then Again the Islands Beach and snorkel area proved it is indeed worth it. Nice Beaches and water level to swim in. The Pool is Lovely and food n Bev prices are at the prices it should be, not over priced imo. Not enough SUP boards as they are very popular, staff are really welcoming. PS you can use cash to pay at the counter but need a credit card or Visa Debit for deposit.

Lucky you! having had the fantastic opportunity to have been to a number of Beach Clubs around Asia-Pacific.
Being the worlds first Private Island Beach Club we at Malamala Beach Club are very proud of the product we have delivered. While we appreciate your opinion and your architectural knowledge I can assure you and other viewers that we have built to the best that we can given the elements we have to work with on a remote island in the South Pacific that many of our local and International visitors to Fiji can come and enjoy every day.
Your comments are taken on board and passed on to the General Manager of Malamala Beach Club regarding the stand up paddle (SUP) boards.
We do appreciate your honest review and the time you have taken to come and visit - even though the online imagery hadn't quite convinced you, and that you enjoyed our stunning beaches, pool, food and beverages.

I am staying at the Plantation island resort. Is there an option for me to take this?

For 1 adult (me), quick questions -
1) Can I leave my belongings (cellphone, keys, small cash, hotel card keys, shoes, snacks) unattended on the Sun loungers when I go for a swim or kayaking in water ? Will it be safe or there's a chance it'll get stolen ?
2) What you'd say is compelling in visiting Malamala vs going to South Sea island or Tivua island (Captain Cook, private) ?
Thanks in advance.

You can ask this question at the tour desk at denaru marina or at your resort your desk prior to departure. If you are staying at the resort may be easier to pay for a days babysitting which is around $90fjd for 8 hrs

Can anyone who has gotten a Grand Cabana let me know what the beach is like in front of it?
How far is it from the main pool?
Thank you :)

Hi, is a half day trip here enough or too short? Will be travelling with kids aged 3, 4, 5 and 7 and wondering if there’s enough to occupy them all day.
