We booked the rainbow mountain tour with Bioandean Expeditions, and it was a total success. The service and attention were perfect throughout the day. Our guide was an expert both in trekking and in the mountains and in managing the group and its people. His experience is remarkable.
This walk is a beautiful place to have contact with nature. There were several of us thinking that it would not be possible to get there, our Guide who knew it giving us the courage to continue and reach the goal. It's comforting to be up there. I highly recommend it

I had a TERRIBLE experience and I honestly wish I'd booked this tour with another [more professional] operator.

1. I was promised a tour guide who spoke english. However, the tour guide that day [his name was Puma] spoke very little english. While he could string together english sentences in conversation, when it came to complex explanations about Rainbow Mountain, he was not able to translate in English at all. This was highly unfair for me and a few others that did not understand a word of Spanish.

2. He did not let me go all the way to the highest point, just because I was the last to get there, in the group. Now I would understand, if we were getting really really late all because of me, or if I had already spent 45 minutes at the 2nd highest point, but that was not the case. I got to the 2nd highest point, barely spent 10 minutes and this crazy hailstorm started. So obviously I wanted to wait till it ended [took about 5 minutes], to climb to the top. It was just bad timing for me. Once it cleared, and I started to make my way up, this guy gave me so much grief about being 'the last one' and how we were all getting late because of me etc etc. He took me on a total guilt trip and refused to let me hike to the top.
Obviously, it was awkward then, so then I didn't go to the top [would have barely taken me 15 min more]. When I got back to the Van, and told the rest of the group about what happened, they were really shocked and said it was ridiculous that he didn't let me go to the top.
Do you know what time we got back to Cusco? 3:00pm. And this was at a very easy pace. So clearly, we weren't getting late because literally every other tour group that left even earlier than we did, got back to Cusco, not before 4:30pm.

I flew all the way from the US, it took me 3 flights over 2 days to get to Cusco, and then a 3 hour bus ride and a 1.5 hour hike after that, to get to the base of that highest point. Imagine how frustrating it was for me that I didn't get to go to THE epic point which has the best views of this place? I don't know when I am going to get a chance to go back to Peru or do this hike again, and this was a complete waste of my money and time.

We decided to do a private tour, searching online we found the company Bioandean Expeditions, a local company that operates tours in this wonderful place.
From the first email they were very informative and gave us all the information we wanted, after a discussion with my partner we decided on this great trip and we moved on! .
Indescribable beauty, a place full of inspiration and mysticism. Walk for lovers of the walk. Wonderful landscape with its dose of adrenaline. You must visit it without any doubt. Have the forecast of the height at which you are.

The hike is demanding, the company advised us to stay at cusco almost 48 hours before the tour (great advise).

The place really worth it, is something unique and unbelivable how the nature can create such beatifull places.

thanks to our guide Julian for the patience and for given us the positive energyes!

Rainbow mountain was unbelievably beautiful. Definitely a challenging hike with the altitude (prepare w coca!) but well worth it. Breakfast and lunch included were great.

Beautiful view but 15,000 feet is 15,000 feet so listen to your body. Take the horse if you need to.

Went with Salkantay Trekking. They picked us up and returned us to our hostel - included breakfast/lunch and our guide (Franz?). He was knowledgable and explained Rainbow Mountain, the area, and what it meant to the natives. Great experience, semi tough hike (about 2.5 miles one way) but uphill and the lookout point was 16,500ft.

There is a horse option and lots of snacks/drink options on the way up/down.

Amazing day trip to rainbow mountain. Well organised, especially with our guide David. He was friendly, helpful and could enthusiastically tell us a lot about the area and history. The mountain itself and the hike to it are very memorable. Greatly recommended guide and tour!

First of all, Rainbow Mountain is spectacular; if you can make it, do it. It could have gotten five stars but for two items. 1) The bus driver seemed overly aggressive and rude (by this time I had been in Peru for over two weeks and had ridden several different busses/tour vans) which made me nervous for the only time while I was in-country. 2) The guide did speak English, but only sparingly. Admittedly I was the only non-Spanish speaker on the bus but felt uninformed and isolated from the rest of the group. I learned more from the limited Spanish I know than from the English the guide spoke. I booked this tour because the company I wanted - Salkantay Trekking - didn't have any Rainbow Mountain tours available until after my departure date. Very glad I made this trip but could have enjoyed the travel portion with a better guide and driver.

Thanks for your review Chelsea: When we took your reservation (last minute), we informed that we had space only in the group in Spanish. We integrated you into the group and our guide made the effort to be able to give you all the attentions (even knowing that within the group of 9 people, you were the only person who spoke English). The guide did his best to be able to assist you. Regarding the driver, Our drivers are certified people, with the highest category of licenses in the country. On the concrete and asphalt route, it is allowed to take the car maximum at 80 kilometers per hour, the driver never exceeded 70 kilometers per hour. (we control that with GPS) On the dust road, you cannot go more than 30 kilometers per hour, this due to the state of the route. We understand that you are not used to buses going at these speeds and we will try to improve this aspect so future travelers will feel safer. We understand that you enjoyed our restaurant and the walk and the attention we provide you. thank you for your comment. greetings from the rainbow Mountain!
