unforgettable journey with Tierras vivas
Sep 2019 • Friends
This tracking was my first experience. And it was very successful. Self-testing, beautiful nature, completely unusual way of life. The team that accompanied us greatly helped us on the trip. Guide Edy is a very attentive, responsive and patient person. With a good sense of humor. Every day hi told us about details of the action plan for the next stage. The accompanying team did everything to make us comfortable: woke up whit hot cocatea, fed us deliciously, setting up tents etc. Тhank you so much for everything!!!

Salkantay Trek: Amazing Guide!
May 2019 • Couples
I did the Salkantay 5-day Trek 2 weeks ago and had an amazing time! The views were amazing and so was the overall experience. Most notably, the 5-star food and our wonderful guide Alvina. She was incredible and helped us out with everything we possibly needed. Thanks for a great experience!

Incredible Trek to Machu Picchu
May 2019 • Friends
My group of four friends and myself just underwent the five day trek starting 5/23 in Cusco and ending 5/27 in Machu and could not have been more thrilled with our experience.

Our guide, Adner, was incredible and we could not have asked for a better guide to lead and teach us. Throughout our five days we noticed he taught us more than the other guides, took us to more secluded areas away from the crowds, encouraged us to keep working hard, was always willing to help take pictures, loved to talk to and get to know every person in our group, and was so enjoyable to be around.

Our cook, Porfirio “Teacher”, and assistant cook, John, provided delicious meals every day and never repeated the same meal! Meals always included tea, coffee, juices, soups, breads, and grains (rice, quinoa) and protein (fish early on because it spoils quicker and chicken), which were all very much appreciated and enjoyed.

Our porter Reuben was with us for 3 days and worked very hard to get our belongings to and from the camps and set up before we arrived (many times he was racing because we hiked very quickly!)

We were very lucky with the weather. The third and fourth weeks in May seem to hit the sweet spot, because the previous two weeks it was rainy and cloudy so you couldn’t see Salkantay. It was cold in the valley the first two days and nights, but very manageable especially with the sleeping bags blankets and tents they give you. Every day was clear and the last two days were hot!

The first two days are the most intense- lots of hiking. The third day you have the option to go to Hot Springs in the evening which was perfect to soothe exhausted bodies and it was fun to see people from all over the world in a couple of small spaces together. It is more money and you also need to pay for transportation (a very fun van ride!) so make sure you consider that if you’re concerned about budgeting.

The fourth day you have the option to hike the whole day or go zip lining during the morning and hiking in the afternoon to Aquas Calientes. It is more money (about $35 a person) but absolutely worth it! It was a fun activity and a great break from hiking, but including rock climbing and suspension bridge. The last night you stay in a hotel in Aquas Calientes and the fifth day is hiking up to Machu starting around 5 AM. Eat a full breakfast and bring lots of water- it is very challenging and very hot once the sun comes out at 6 AM.

The only “negative” I have from this experience was communicating with them after arriving in the county. There were some small details I should have asked them before traveling and we were figuring them out last minute, such as what exact time the drivers were picking us to bring us to airport and whether or not we had a driver. It ended up being ok, because I called their office and talked to them to confirm these details. I think in hindsight it would have been easier to send us a more detailed itinerary about our trek.

Overall- an amazing experience and thank you again for Tierras Vivas!

Amazing Salkantay Trek!

We had an amazing trek with Viejas Cusco Peru, they are a no frills company that does the Salkantay at a very reasonable price! Great guides, Jose and Reuben, delicious food and absolutely breath taking scenery! It was one of the best trips I've ever done! Highly recommend! #ViajasCuscoPeru#Salkantay5D#Amazing

Salkantay is Amazing!
Aug 2018 • Friends
My sister, her boyfriend and I did the Salkantay Trek through Tierras Vivas and we were all so impressed by the hardworking crew. Edmar, our guide, had a lot of pride fro his home country of Peru and was thorough in explaining the landscape and Inca culture. He was very encouraging and kind and we enjoyed having him as a guide, The staff were exceptional - the chef and his assistant worked so hard for us and every single meal was beyond delicious. Each day we came to a campsite with our tents ready and hot tea ready to be served. I truly felt spoiled on this trek and felt it’s a fantastic deal for the money. Highly recommend!

Beautiful trek in a small group with attentive guide
Jul 2018 • Couples
First of all, the Salkantay Trek is a beautiful way to get to know the Andes. High mountain lakes, hanging glaciers, orchids in bloom, and lush vegetation...it was spectacular. Highly recommend the trip!

As for Tierras Vivas, we had an excellent experience with them. I cannot say enough about our guide, Yolanda, who made sure we were well taken care of every step of the way. She had an appropriate demeanor about the trek, including helping us understand the role Salkantay and the mountains played in Inka cosmology, and she was a general "fixer" for any hiccups that came up throughout the journey. The food was also very good, and our cook made sure there was enough to eat at every meal.

We had some complexities with our trek, including a side trip to Llactapata--not part of the usual itinerary--and it seemed like Yolanda had not received a lot of information from the main office regarding our trip. Tierras Vivas was able to make everything work for us, including sending more guides for the final day of our trek, and, despite what seemed like some logistical miscommunications, everything worked out excellently.

The biggest plus of Tierras Vivas, in my mind, is the small group of our trek. Whereas other operators were running groups of 20+ people, a very customizable trip was possible because we had a group of only 4! That really made the trip a memorable and personal experience--and for that I highly recommend them!

Great Salkantay Experience
What a journey! Although the 5 day trek may seem overwhelming at first, the great guides, incredible scenery, fantastic food and comfortable accommodation made it an unforgettable experience! We thoroughly enjoyed the entire trek and experienced every possible landscape and weather scenario.

The guides Carmen and Susan were extremely friendly and knowledgable and made the entire trip very fun! From the very first day to the very last second of the trip we were looked after with extraordinary care, received high quality three course meals every day (omelettes for breakfast, avocados and local specialities as a few examples) and were aided by a horseman with our luggage who also made the tents for us at night. Overall, we highly recommend Tierras Vivas for the Salkantay Trek. Top tip: the hot springs at the end of day 3 are mesmerising!

Americo is the best
Jul 2017 • Friends
This past summer (Yes, I am very late on my review!) my two girlfriends and I did the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. It was simply the most magical experience of my life. This trek is not easy and the altitude is no joke. However, the accomplished feeling you receive when you finally catch a glimpse of Machu Picchu is unmatched and totally worth every mile climbed. Although the company Tierra Vivas is not without its hiccups and their service wasn't always stellar (including poor communication, forgetting to book our Huayna Picchu tickets, amongst other issues), the staff they employ are AMAZING! Our guide, Americo, became like a best friend to us (it was only the three of us and the guide for our trip). He is SO intelligent and can identify nearly every single flower, plant, bird, etc. that he sees. He has such a kind heart and I wish that everyone hiking the Andes had the opportunity to have him as their guide. Our porter and chef worked so incredibly hard and were such kind people. Also, the food was amazing. I was expecting PB sandwiches but we were served 3-course meals. We also had plenty of safe, boiled water for our hike.
In conclusion, this tour is definitely worth it. Again, Americo is incredible and I walked away with not only photos of incredible views, increased knowledge of culture and history, and full bellies but I also gained a great friend in the process!
