- swoodruf0 contributionsBeautiful Island and Beach ... Such an Adventure! We visited the Falkland Islands on a Quark Antarctica Adventure. We actually spent two days in the Islands, but slept each night on our ship. We were transported to the islands by Zodiac. We really hit it lucky because Princess Anne was visiting Stanley on Veteran's Day to lay a wreath at the War Memorial. The whole town was there, and there was still front row room to see the princess and the ceremony. We also went to Gypsy Cove where I saw several beautiful birds, but NO penguins. Others saw penguins; I guess I just didn't go far enough. The beach at Gypsy Cove is stunning ... a beautiful shade of aquamarine and pure white sand. We had gorgeous weather; one day it was in the high 60s. I loved the little town of Stanley; it was just delightful. We had lunch in a cute little cafe and did lots of souvenir shopping as it was our last port in civilization!Written 14 December 2022

- 2012dee19610 contributionsBetha Beach TourWe arrived at Port Stanley the tour cost £555.00 for 2 people including lunch. Left at 9.00 - arrived back at 12.30, where there was a 10 min tour of the city , lunch was a meat paste handmade sandwich, crisps and a biscuit. What a RIP-OFF!!!! Never againWritten 1 March 2020

The tiny fairy penguins come to shore at dusk which means there is only a limited time slot to see them. Once darkness falls it’s game over.
Viewing is via a wheelchair accessible platform which is lit, with useful information boards along the length. There are burrows right under the walkway.
You have to be patient and very quiet - it’s a bit church like but the reward is catching sight of the penguins clambering over the rocks. These are not the big strapping Emperor Penguins so not easy to pick out, especially if the light is fading.
Good car park close by and if on foot it’s only a short stroll from the main streets of Stanley.

I am giving this a ‘very good’ rating even though we didn’t actually get to go on this excursion. The tendering operation from ship to shore was very chaotic and even though our tour operator waited for us and also tried to contact us, but unfortunately we didn’t have an internet package, so didn’t get the message. Anyway once ashore we were informed that the tour had left because of time restraints. The greatest thing about this experience was the fact that they refunded everything, thank you! Would have soon been able to do the tour, but that is life cruising in The Falklands!

We went to a private reserve area which took about 2 hours from the port. It was over an hour 4 x4 driving on an unpaved or unimproved road but nice ride in Toyota 4 runner. There were only about 15 of us visiting the elephant seals and then the penguins so no crowds and we could get close while still giving the animals appropriate space. Nice guides/drivers. We did this as a cruise stop and it was much cheaper than anything there ship offered. I recommend this tour to see both Seals and penguins.

We were here on a cruise stop and took the shuttle at the port for $20 to Gypsy Cove. The volunteers on the trail told us where the penguins were located. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We saw Megallanic, Gentoo, and King Penguins. It was an amazing experience, and the cove is beautiful. Port Stanley is a quaint town. A stroll is most enjoyable and worthwhile.

Pristine environment coupled with friendly locals and excellent accommodation make the newly appointed City of Stanley in the Falkland Islands a must see destination in the months between September and April. King penguin chicks rockhopper Albatross whales and dolphins there is not a more pristine environment except Antarctica itself and Stanley has pubs and restaurants! Go before someone else discovers it and builds too much!

This stop was canceled because of bad weather. I notified you of this. I hope I am not charged for an excursion I did not take. My understanding is this port has been cancelled by many ships for over a month! Beware!

It is our policy to refund everyone who cannot disembark because of bad weather and the vessel cancel port call. Instead of putting a negative review without asking is quite stupid, send a request via your booking and if the vessel was cancelled we will refund as we do all our clients that cannot step foot here.

It was amazing how close you could get to the elephant seals and penguins.
We were asked to stay at least 2 meters from the penguins but no one told that to the penguins and they would come closer as they traveled from the nesting area to the ocean. The road to the nesting area was a long and bumpy dirt road but it was worth it as there was only our 2 vehicles there. Our driver would answer any questions but it would have been more appreciated if he has volunteered some of the information instead of waiting for us to ask questions.

Going to see the hundreds of penguins only a 15 minute drive from town was good enough for me vs driving over 3 hours each direction to see the King penguins, you can buy from a local to take you out to the dunes to pass this adorable animals all standing around
LOVED IT!

Trip was canceled because Port Stanley was closed due to weather. The local tour provider was contacted and they said a refund would be made and we needed to contact TripAdvisor
