Be ready for convenient pickup at your central Beijing hotel around 8:30am. Meet your dedicated guide and climb into a comfortable tour vehicle, then set off for the world's largest public square: Tian'anmen Square.
Disembark and walk around the area, learning about the history and cultural significance. At the Tian'anmen Rostrum, snap photos of Chairman Mao's enormous portrait before heading on to the Forbidden City.
At the Forbidden City, learn about the history and architecture of the largest imperial palace in the world. Spend a few hours exploring the immense grounds, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Stop for lunch (own expense); your guide is happy to suggest a restaurant.
Following lunch, climb into a rickshaw to travel through the historic hutong alleys, lined with siheyuan, or courtyard residences. Learn about the architecture of these communities and see how daily life functions there.
The day's last stop is the Temple of Heaven, a complex of religious buildings in southeastern Beijing. Return to your hotel for drop-off.
