About
Fly down the 'world’s most dangerous road' on this thrilling mountain-biking adventure! Leave from a high-altitude plain near La Paz, and follow expert guides downhill for 40 miles (64 km) on a narrow, winding road carved into the side of the incredible Andes. Take breaks along the way to admire the landscape that changes from the snowcapped Andes to the lush Amazonian jungle. This is one of the most incredible experiences in South America, and one you'll want to do with the most reccomended company in Bolivia, which uses international safety standards and ensures incredible service. After the riding adventure, unwind at La Senda Verde Ecotourism Resort, an animal refuge, where you’ll enjoy lunch and observe rescued wildlife. Return to La Paz the same day, or stay overnight at La Senda Verde or in Coroico. This is one you'll be telling the grandkids, so do it right!

What to expect
  • Greet your team of expert guides at a central La Paz location and climb aboard an air-conditioned vehicle for the hour-long ride to La Cumbre, a place whose name translates as ‘the summit’. On arrival, disembark and absorb the spectacular surroundings as your guide provides an in-depth safety briefing. Capture photographs of the low-slung clouds and forest-smothered mountains before jumping onto your bike and embarking on the ride of your life.  Begin your death-defying descent of a serpentine road termed Camino de la Muerte, or Death Road, by Bolivian locals. Enjoy the adrenaline surges as your soar down a road christened the world’s most dangerous by numerous organizations; feel the wind in your hair and the frantic race of your heart as you descend 11,800 feet (3,600 meters) downhill.  Stop intermittently along the way to revitalize with water and snacks and to capture photographs of the dramatic scenery. Enter the subtropics of the dense Amazonian jungle and commence the most difficult part of the ride; avert your gaze from the sheer drops of 3,300 feet (1,000 meters), beside which there appears to be little path, and focus on the refreshing mist coming from waterfalls on your right.  Arrive at the village of Yolosa and return to the safety of a main road for the smooth ride to La Senda Verde Ecotourism Resort. Revitalize with a steaming shower or plunge into the cool waters of the swimming pool, and then appease your appetite with a hearty pasta buffet. Observe a colorful tableau of rescued wildlife and take in the spectacular jungle scenery as you rest aching muscles.  Return to the minivan for the scenic drive back to La Paz after relaxing thoroughly. Opt to stay over night in La Senda Verde or venture to Coroico, a beautiful town surrounded by the verdant splendor of the jungle.

Once-in-a-lifetime ride!!!
Sep 2021 • Couples
Highly recommend this tour operator if you ever make it to Bolivia. Noel was a phenomenal guide, and I seriously have no idea how Guillermo managed to drive a road that was hard to traverse on a mountain bike to provide support for us. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience (though I’d love to go again!!).
Remember that you’ll be cold and wet at the beginning of the ride, if you don’t dress appropriately. Gravity brings along pants, jackets, and gloves, but having your own waterproof gear is a good idea. Listen to your guides. They’ll make a safe and truly exceptional ride (packed with as much excitement as you can handle), but regardless of how competent of a rider you are, their experience and knowledge are invaluable.

HIGHLY recommend this tour with Gravity, Noel and José
May 2021
I just went with a group at the end of May 2021 and it was the BEST experience! Highly recommend Gravity and Noel and José! A lot of other reviews say this same thing, but that's because it's true: they were the best guides! All of us (a group of four from the US) felt very safe the whole time and we had SO much fun! They speak both English and Spanish very well, are super fun and also knowledgeable. They went above and beyond our expectations and I would go on this tour with these guides again in a heartbeat! It was worth every penny. We saw another group with a cheaper tour (no idea which one) on the way and they literally turned around because their guides weren't as prepared. However, we safely made it to the end and had a fantastic time! If you're on the fence -- do it!!

Don't miss mountain biking Death Road with Gravity!!!
May 2021
What a bucketlist experience! We absolutely loved our mountain biking adventure down Death Road with Noel and the Gravity crew!! Not only was it fun, but the guides make sure we were safe the entire time. Our boys (ages 13 and 16) were the perfect ages for this activity. We highly recommend adding this experience to your Bolivia itinerary--it is a MUST! And ask for Noel because he is the best guide!

Death Road with Noel and Gravity
Apr 2021 • Couples
Noel is the Greatest Guide of All Time! He will keep you safe, you will learn a lot about Bolivian Culture and History, and you will have fun. During the drive to the start you will enjoy a stop for breakfast with real Bolivians who make great food. At the top of the pass you jump on bikes for a fun descent on pavement with a stop for some tea made with coca leaves and learn about a complicated relationship between the Bolivians and this indigenous plant. Then at the start of the dirt section of Death Road you will learn about the Andean mountain goddess who has her own creative power to give life and keep you safe. During the trip Noel will entertain you with stories that can be both good but sometimes bad (it is Death Road). From nazi leaders who fled Germany after WWII to avoid prosecution deep in the Andes to stories about descents down this infamous road that went terribly wrong. By the end you will not be able to wipe the smile off your face but the trip does not end there. A visit to an animal refuge to see bears, Jaguars, monkeys, and more, have a beer and some great food and talk about the experience. Noel was genetically encoded to guide! Gravity is the only way to go. They are the only group trained in rescue and have the equipment to do so, and actual experience. Something happens out there even with other operators, they seek Noel and Gravity for assistance. And if you have not had enough create a custom tour with Noel and Gravity like the worlds longest descent, 4,500 meters or about 13,000 feet. You will start in the shadows of the majestic 17,000 foot Chacaltaya in the high Andes and descend through multiple ecosystems ending in the rainforest near Zongo. Noel is Bolivian who knows the country from north to south and east to west, he is also fluent in English.

Go with Gravity and insist on Noel! If you are there a week and his tour is packed, wait until you can get on his tour!

¡Bucket list checkoff!
Apr 2020 • Solo
Date correction: I completed this magnificent ride on 14MAR2020, not in April.
I’d heard about this downhill as one of the best on planet Earth, so it is definitely going to happen for me, especially after being reTIRED 31DEC2017 from the World-class Ysleta ISD! My opportunity came during my Third Annual First Quarter Odyssey: Tierra del Fuego, 14JAN - 07APR2020 (COVID truncated to 16MAR). 12MAR2020, I was in CochabambaBOLIVIA when my much better half told me to return home ASAP, though I didn’t know why.
Not fully understanding the gravity of coronavirus, I straightaway book flights back: CPB > LPB > LIM > MEX > CJS, which included TWO nights in La Paz (LPB), specifically to take this amazing biketour. My overnights were both at the fabulous Onkel Inn, the first (13MAR) downtown for an easy GRAVITY BOLIVIA pickup by (06:30) on the 14th; the second at the airports for easy access to an early morning (15MAR) flight to LIM.
Since I arrived in La Paz early afternoon of 13MAR, after checking into Onkel Inn-downtown, I enjoyed the rest of the day on the unique aerial mass transit system, and slept well in preparation for the BIG ride.
I was a bit concerned as I waited in the pre-First Light darkness for the bus, but that was wasted energy because there was no mistaking my shuttle. It was an aging school bus with many bicycles stacked atop it. Likewise, the driver had no trouble ID-ing me—I was the only person on the Onkel Inn stoop. Once aboard, tour leader Garry offered (and I gladly accepted) coffee & chocolate for a morning starter. I was immensely relieved; thus is going exactly as I had been told the previous day when I verified my attendance & payment (which included the mandatory travel insurance policy) with Omar.
During the 3-hour motor up, Garry discussed aspects of this experience, our expectations as well as GRAVITY BOLIVIA’s expectations. Above the tree line/snow & ice along the road & mountains, we stopped at the staging area, where we received a heavyweight protective outer layer & thick gloves, as well as individual specially built downhill mountain bikes, along with additional more specific instructions. After anointing the front wheels with a clear solution (also drinkable if you can take alcohol), we began our descent on a very decent all-weather 2-lane road in very low/poor visibility.
Within an hour, we reached a turn-off into an extremely gnarly gravel road and formed up again, this time for a more formal group photo at the uppermost terminal of the fabled “Death Road”. We also received more specific instructions—always appreciated—and, even better, the weather appeared to be cooperating!
For the next several hours, it was an extremely pleasurable downhill experience—as long as I stayed away from the edge! What made it particularly delightful, besides Garry/GRAVITY BOLIVIA, was very little uphill = no pedaling for me because, well, I can’t; my hams/quads/knees forbid it. Also, fortunately, I’d already been in Bolivia for a week, so I was acclimated to the altitude; it usually takes me 24-48 hours, so I was OK. Most everybody needs that to adjust. I also ensured my international travel shot record was current.
GRAVITY BOLIVIA certainly has my coveted “iWheel of Approval!”
