I joined a small group of visitors and was taken throughout the Imperial City/ Citadel with explanation of the history and significance of the Citadel. It really is a beautiful area to explore. - Elphick20130 contributionsFabulous afternoon tour!We opted for the driver only tour and were lucky to have Tony who made our afternoon super easy and just what we wanted for our limited time. We arranged to meet at 1:30pm (the last timeslot for the day) outside the Imperial Citadel gates and then drove to the start of the Dragon Boat Cruise. From there, we were able to visit Thien Mu Pagoda and then on to the 2 tombs we had chosen (Khai Dinh and Tu Duc) by car. Tony’s excellent communication through WhatsApp during the afternoon made all the arrangements very smooth and his car easily fitted us as a family of 5 adults - would highly recommend!Written 17 January 2025

He was friendly, respectful and very knowledgeable of the local area and the about the monuments that we visited. Our hotel pick up was on time and he was always there to collect us again once we had finished viewing the sites. We visited Thien Mu Pagoda & royal tombs, which were very interesting indeed. We had a private half-day tour. The tour guide Hung and the driver Thien came to pick us up from the hotel. Hung was just amazing - in one afternoon he helped us to get such a perspective on centuries of Vietnam's history, on its dynasties and wars, on lives of kings and ordinary people, up to a present day. He had answers to every question, and we did ask a lot! The hours spent walking with Hung in the Imperial City were simply magical and we would have never discovered so much wondering on our own. We recommend Hung and Thien 100%!

We had only one day in Hue. The rain was torrential all day and all night but our guide took us out and did the best he could under the circumstances. The boating part of the tour had to be cancelled due to flooding but our guide Houng, made up for this with an awesome history lesson. His English was perfect and we went to the Imperial palace and got such detailed information on the Vietnam war (not the American version we are all used to hearing!). His knowledge was endless and despite the fact that we were like drowned rats, the tour was excellent. If you are a history buff, this is the tour for you. We learnt quite a bit about all the Kings over the centuries and how they lived and died. Five stars.

Hung was our tour guide for this afternoon’s tour. He was brilliant! His English was excellent, he spoke extremely clearly and he was a fountain of knowledge. He knew so much of the history and was always happy to answer our questions. We learnt a lot from him and he was just generally pleasant to spend the afternoon with! We spent most of our time in the imperial city / forbidden city, then had a boat ride to the Pagoda and strolled around the Pagoda before returning to our hotel. Our tour was 4 hours in total which was perfect. Today was very hot so Hung made sure to provide information in shaded places. We weren’t expecting any drinks to be included but in his car he had a cool box and gave us a total of 4 bottles of cold water which was so appreciated - a brilliant extra touch. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him or this tour. We had only an afternoon and evening in Hue so it was a great way to see a lot and learn a lot quickly. Thank you Hung.

We embarked on the tour with our guide Hong and driver Cuong as a family with 4x kids aged 4, 6, 10 & 12.
We had some last minute changes to pick up locations and the guides were very accomodating. Hong shared great historical and cultural insights throughout the walk through the Citadel, Imperial & Forbiddden city and the Thein Mu Pagoda.
The weather was hot and the little kids struggled a little with the walking but the tour guides were really gracious and great with the kids. They also helped explain Vietnamese history and culture to the kids in ways that were easy for them to take in. It was a really interesting and pleasant way to spend a few hours learning about the various stages of history for Vietnam. Highly recommend Hong and Cuong!

We had the best tour today with Hung. Hung is so very knowledgeable and just a really nice guy, with a great sense of humour and excellent English. Hung’s knowledge of the sites, the culture and the history of Vietnam (that is not written in history books but that of his people) is next level. Thoroughly enjoyed visiting these sites again (as had visited on a previous visit) and found it a far richer experience thanks to Hung. Hung comes highly recommended so don’t hesitate and book now 😬

A thoroughly brilliant half day spent exploring the Imperial City and learning all about its history topped off with a dragon boat ride and a trip to see a pagoda.
We had the best day with Hung who was one of the best tour guides we’ve had since travelling around South East Asia! His knowledge was second to none, especially around the history of the royal family and Hue. He took us through the history is such a capturing way and we felt really clued up by the time we’d finish. I couldn’t recommend him highly enough! :)

I’ve just finished the half day private tour that covered the Citadel, pagoda and dragon boat cruise led by Hong. What a fantastic day and what a great guide Hong is - I really can’t rate him highly enough. His knowledge of the politics, history, rulers, wars and religions of Hue and Vietnam is amazing. I learnt so much more from Hong than I would have done on my own or with a generic audio guide. The tour was great value and nothing was too much trouble for Hong to accommodate. I very highly recommend using Adventure Journey and Hong in particular if you want to get a really great overview of the complicated history of Hue.

We were picked up at our hotel by Danny and our driver and transported to the Perfume River for a dragon boat ride to the Pagoda. We were early enough to avoid the queues and had plenty of photo opportunities.
The blissfully air conditioned car then took us to the Imperial City where we learnt about the Nguyen Dynasty from Danny who was extremely knowledgeable and spoke excellent English.
It was a blisteringly hot day but Danny gave us plenty of opportunities to take advantage of the numerous fans at strategic locations!
All in all a great trip to learn about the origins of the Vietnamese royalty.
The blissfully air conditioned car then took us to the Imperial City where we learnt about the Nguyen Dynasty from Danny who was extremely knowledgeable and spoke excellent English.
It was a blisteringly hot day but Danny gave us plenty of opportunities to take advantage of the numerous fans at strategic locations!

This tour was a highlight of our trip so far. Our guide, Nhien, was easy to communicate with, extremely knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our time on the tour. She knew the best spots for photos as well!
I would highly recommend booking this tour if you are interested in the history of Hue and the Nguyen dynasty. The pagoda was beautiful also after a quick trip on the perfume river.

My husband and I had an amazing half-day tour today with expert guide Hung. It was really great to have this private tour through the cultural landmarks of Hue and we feel we learned so much from Hung, not just about Hue but about Vietnamese people, culture, food, religions, politics, and history. I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to gain insight and see many wonderful places in just a few short hours.
