Together with one friend, we did the evening cooking class and we loved it! We made a maincourse, a curry and a soup. You can choose between 4 really nice options with every meal. So you don’t have to make the same as your friend for example. The location of the school is a 45 minutes drive from city, you’re gonna be picked up from and dropped off at your hotel, that’s inclusive. On the way you stop at a local market, where your chef will explain some useful things about the products they have there. I liked the farm where the school was very much, its in the middle of the nature and they have their owns ingredients in the garden. You can walk through it by your own and later as well with your chef and you will hear funny and interesting things about the vegetables, fruits and spices; most of them you’re gonna use with cooking. Our chef Tay was really nice and funny and spoke good English! She explained everything very well. In the end, you will receive a little book with all the recipes, so you don’t have to remember anything or need to write something down. If you can not eat all the food you made, you can bring it home, since it’s a lot to eat in once. ;) After all, I would definitely recommend this amazing experience when you visit Chiangmai!

As a lover of Thai food this was a great experience to get to know more about the ingredients and flavours that go into the dishes.
Our chef Natty was awesome. She was patient, funny and very informative. From a short stop at a local market to highlight the difference between ‘packet curry paste’ and the real deal to a guide through their small garden where she explained and let us smell and feel the different ingredients we then got to choose what we wanted to prepare. It was a fun experience and the food we prepared tasted great.
It’s very well organised even though we were one of three groups of 12 people.
Reviewing some other comments it’s not a culinary school folks !
It’s a fun way to learn more about Thai food and get a chance to cook your own dishes.
Great value for the money and Natty made it a fantastic afternoon/evening activity.
Highly recommend !

Wow! A must do experience. A really solid price given that you make 5 dishes (super filling almost didn’t finish). The Chefs are super attentive and knowledgeable and give everyone the right amount of attention. A special shout out to Tay for creating such a warm environment!

Pick-up at hotel was as scheduled, first we visited a local market where Sisi, the group leader, told us which ingredient is used in what dish and we had some time for shopping for breakfast, not the cooking experience. After another 30 minute minibus ride we arrived at the farm where Sisi showed us the veggies grown in the garden. Our group was 12 people and there were 3 other groups on-site. It is a much larger compound than expected so there is enough space for 4 groups of 12 but takes away the charm of a homely cooking class. We could choose which curry, soup and main dish to cook, as well as a veggie spring roll which was not optional. All ingredients were prepared for us for each dish. We cooked the spring roll appetizers first together, then everyone their own main dish, ate it and during that time the staff prepared the next set of ingredients for us, it was really well managed. We cooked the curry and the soup but it was way too much so we took home the rest. The recipes are easy to follow, some ingredients might be difficult to get by in Europe when you will try to cook at home. It was a bit shorter than expected, the bus picked us up at 7:30, we started cooking at 10 and were done by 2pm. We arrived home at 3pm. Sisi was a great group leader and cook, helped with everything. Definitely recommended.

Our group leader yo made us feel very welcome, he had a great sense of humour and made us feel very included. Our class was very and interactive and informative. The value for money was very very good would really recommend, they were very accommodating to my friends nut allergy's and explained well what they could or couldn't have. They also accommodate for vegetarians and for gluten free needs. We had 3 meals plus spring rolls, all of which were big portions, they gave you the option to take away your food after cooking it if you didn't want to eat it there with the group. We also went to a local market and got a tour of their organic gardens. This was a great afternoon!

This experience was well worth the money! (Not a lot at all). For 900•- we got picked up from our hotel (50mins away) taken to a local market where Tay (our tour guide) took us around and explained different ingredients and products. She then gave us time to look around independently and buy and products for ourself.
We then got back in the taxi (and met some great people who live 10 minutes away from us), there was 2 groups taken to the cooking area (about 40 people in total during quiet season). Tay sat us down and gave us some information of the different meal we could choose to cook (4 in total). She then made a note of what everyone wanted to cook, you can choose a different meal to your party but if you want to cook next to each other choose the same.
We then walked around the garden and she explained all the different ingredients that we will be using and let us try them. We then returned to the cooking area and began to cook the different dishes.
The experience was very hygienic and Tay explained everything fully before we were set to cook. There was water, tea and coffee as refreshments and we could fry our dishes as we went along through the day.
I would recommend that the half a day experience is more than enough as cooking become tiring in the heat and we were ready for home at the end. The full day just includes a salad and a desert more than the half day experience would.
An amazing day and definitely worth doing for couples, friends and solo travellers.

The class was absolutely amazing! Lily picked us up from the hotel in the morning, we went to a very nice and cheap market outside of Chiang Mai city center, she showed us everything and recommended best spices and curry paste. We didn’t have to buy anything because all the ingredients were waiting for us at the farm. Then the cooking class started, we could smell all the herbs from the garden and learn about the sauces and spices. Lily was incredibly cool and funny. She made the experience a real pleasure!

Great experience with an excellent guide, Kiki, who gave us a tour round a local market explaining about the various vegetables and ingredients that go in to the dishes we would be making. We then got to work and Kiki was extremely helpful in guiding a group of 12 of us (cooking up to 5 different dishes between us!) to make 3 separate dishes and a spring roll. My other half is a very basic cook but managed to make all dishes with Kiki’s guidance.
Great fun and good value for money - recommend doing this tour whilst in Chiang Mai!

Our evening at Smile Organic Farm was amazing. Our chef guide, Lily, picked us up from the hotel and was super smiley and informative throughout.
We first stopped at a food market just out of the city, to learn all about buying the local ingredients - you then have 10 minutes to explore the market yourself.
It’s then a 30 minute drive to the farm which is beautiful! All home grown herbs and vegetables. You get to walk around the farm whilst Lily explains all about the different flavours and smells (passing them around to smell and taste ourselves).
You get so much choice for your cooking, it isn’t just one meal for everyone. You can all be cooking something different and although I’m not a vegetarian there were alternatives for the two people in our class who were.
Overall learning about the ingredients and choosing your preferred options, making it the way you like it (heat preference etc) all come together to make it a really fun experience. It is was also a great chance to meet fellow travellers and make some new friends. 100% recommend this cooking class and #TeamLily.

Hello there,
I am just wondering if gluten free is easily catered for?
Written 28 March 2024
Hi, before start the chef asks for any allergies or vegetarian options, so I believe gluten free should be an option also

We made the spring rolls as a group and then we picked a main that we cooked individually with the matching paste. There may have been a soup too but I cannot remember.
I would really recommend going, it was a great experience!
