An amazing bespoke tour.
I do not know where to start with this review, as Omar and his team at Fancyellow were consistently outstanding. I approached Fancyellow reasonably last-minute, having already booked flights and accommodation for Algiers, as the Consulate informed me that I would need to be on an official tour. Having read the reviews online, I contacted Omar about joining a trip and he replied very quickly. Having ascertained our needs, he put together a suggested itinerary of a day's touring in Algiers, a day to see Tipaza and the Royal Mausoleum of Mauritania and a day-trip to Constantine. He also arranged transfers to and from the airport either side of this. Communication in the lead-up to the trip was consistent and helpful and it was delightful to meet Omar at Algiers airport, as he collected the two of us in person. He drove us to our hotel, giving us details of the following days and facts about Algeria, and assisted us with changing our Euros into Dinar. He then left us to settle into our hotel for the evening. The next morning, we were met by our first guide, Zaki, an Algiers local who wasted no time in whisking us to the Metro for the start of our tour. It was so helpful having a local person to take us around Algiers, especially in the Casbah, which is a veritable maze of streets, stairs and doors. Zaki was very jolly and knowledgeable, and let us go at our own pace, stopping to take photos and, indeed, stopping us taking photos at the appropriate times when police and army were present. The price of the tour included all refreshments, and Zaki took us to a lovely cafe for morning tea and then to a traditional restaurant for lunch, where we had chakhchoukha, a local dish with an Algerian type of pasta. In the afternoon, we had been scheduled to visit the Jardin d'Essai, but since we had done this by ourselves the previous afternoon, Zaki amended the tour to take us to the Musée de Beaux Arts. This was a fantastic addition to our tour. It houses both Algerian art works, and a collection of works left behind by the French, following independence. Through the drawings and paintings, and Zaki's interpretations, we felt that we started to understand more the context of modern Algeria and its history, especially in relation to the French occupation. Our last activity with Zaki was a cable-car trip up to the Martyrs' Memorial Museum. At the museum, Zaki led us around the exhibitions and it was again a real privilege to have a local person’s view on the material and the history, which it portrays. After a final coffee with Zaki, it was the end of the day and we parted, with an evening restaurant recommendation in hand. The next day was our trip to Tipaza and the Mausoleum, driven by Omar and with our guide for the day, Bilal. I can honestly say that I have rarely had so much fun with tour guides as we had on that day. Both Bilal and Omar made us feel really at ease and we had a wonderful time. Tipaza is breathtaking. Although it may not be the largest or best-preserved Roman ruins in Algeria, the situation next to the sea is beautiful. Being one of the smaller ruins, it was not overwhelmed with crowds and we felt that we were able to explore at our leisure. Bilal guided us, giving information along the way, and an impromptu performance in the theatre. Lunch was another lovely local meal. Even as a vegetarian, I was well catered and really enjoyed my spicy chickpea soup. The Mausoleum, which is not accessible by public transport at all, was out-of-this-world. I felt that I was given a glimpse into something non-Western. Especially in Britain, it feels like education about the ancient world stops with the Greeks and the Roman, maybe the Egyptians, and so it was fascinating to see ancient ruins from another time and another culture, along with the historical facts, narrated by Bilal. We ended the day back at the hotel, again, with another restaurant recommendation. That evening, we went by ourselves to visit the Notre Dame d'Afrique cathedral. The cable car was broken, so we walked up and back in the evening. Several people expressed concerns for our safety before we went, but we honestly never felt unsafe walking around Algiers. In fact, if you are obviously not from there (I'm tall and blond) people will go out of their way to be helpful and offer directions when you get lost. The next day continued our amazing trip. Omar had arranged flights to leave Algiers in the morning and come back in the evening. On landing in Constantine, we were met by our driver and then joined by our guide, Wided. Wided is currently researching her PhD in North African ancient monuments, so we could not have had a better guide. Constantine is perched on top of a valley and offers so many sites. From the bridges and the river, to the outstanding Ottoman palace. I find it incredible that the Ottoman palace is not famous worldwide. It is a big complex with excellently preserved paintwork and tiling, and gives a real flavour of Algeria under the Ottoman rule. Despite the rain, Wided skillfully guided us to lunch, where we enjoyed more enormous helpings of Algerian cuisine. Everywhere we went in Constantine, it felt like people knew Wided and, as a result, we received excellent treatment. The museum after lunch again surpassed all expectations, with a wealth of Ottoman, Punic and Roman artifacts. Being alone in the museum with Wided and the exhibits again felt like a huge privilege and her knowledge of what we were viewing really enhanced the visit. Our final activity of the day was a trip to the Amir Abdelkader Mosque. This could not have been a better way to round off our trip to Algeria. Wided guided us thoughtfully around the men's section, and even introduced us to the Imam, who was so welcoming that he even gave us a personal tour of the women's section and opened up the courtyard for us. The construction and artistic style of the mosque is cavernous and overwhelming, but also intricate and contemplative. After this and a coffee, Wided made sure that we arrived back at the airport safely. The next day, with heavy hearts, we were collected at the hotel and driven to the airport. I cannot recommend Fancyellow tours highly enough. From the skilled, knowledgeable guides, to the planning by Omar, we never felt unsure and things seemed to happen with a magical smoothness - the hallmark of a well-organised tour. The price also seemed very reasonable. Everyone was so friendly to us, both guides and Algerians, and I am very excited to return to Algeria in the future to explore the southern regions of this huge and enticing country. And of course, I shall be using Fancyellow!

Three times lucky
I should mention that I am air crew (probably with even higher expectations) but after three recent tour experiences (2 Algiers, 1 Tipaza/Cherchell), I highly recommend Omar’s services. It should be noted that the day tour of Algiers, which includes lunch and really experiencing the city (even the metro). Pleasant and personable guides (including Omar, of course) and drivers who are determined to make you feel welcome in Algeria. He also offers a variety of interesting trips to other destinations outside of Algiers for those who really want to explore the country.

Best of Algiers Tour
The entire organization of my trip around Algier was just perfect and easy. Omar was very helpful and answered all my questions quickly. The tour itself was led by Zaki, a very nice and knowledgable local guide who introduced me to the most important sites of the city. Together we visited the Casbah, the botanical garden, the Martyr's monument & museum and a lot more. This tour is perfect for everyone who would like to know more about the history and cluture of Algier on a beautiful and interesting walk through the city.

One, Two, Three, Vive L'Algerie!
I have wanted to visit Algeria since seeing some pictures of the amazing bridges of Constantine. This trip was an amazing experience, and I want to echo all the other positive reviews here. Once through immigration our trip was seamless and so well organised. We were met at the airport and headed to our Algiers hotel. Day 1 a tour of the amazing old Kasbah and some of the historic houses. We'd booked the 'Best of Algeria' tour, and in the week went to Djemila, Constantine and Ghardaia. Everywhere we were met by expert local drivers and fantastic, knowledgeable guides. Know that if you book with Fancyellow you'll be spending money with an Algerian company that works with a network of trustworthy, hospitable locals. Everyone we met was so friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Our Ghardaia driver shared with us some local sweets from his daughter's celebration, our Algiers guide helped us sample the local sodas (one similar to bitter lemon - very good). Even in the middle of the political demonstrations of last month we felt safe and welcomed. Algeria needs a tourism a boost, if you go with this company you'll be supporting a great bunch of locals who are experts at showing off this fascinating country. The Phoenicians, Romans, Ottomans and French have all left their mark in Algeria, but now it is time for the Algerians! And what a great time. Thanks to Omar for setting up a fabulous trip.

GO!
Algeria was fantastic! We struggled to find a tour company that was local and reasonable! Fancy Yellow seemed too good to be true. The price was really good and included domestic flights! Omar answered emails promptly and didn't even want a deposit up front so we weren't sure if there would be anyone at the airport to pick us up! There was, and our entire tour was seamlessly organized. Algeria is full of amazing sites and wonderful people. Even in the middle of a revolution I felt safe and welcome. You can trust Omar ... so if you are thinking of going to Algeria - do it... it's worth the hassle of getting a visa.

Great tour organized by Omar!!
A friend and I contacted Omar for our weeklong trip. Not only was the tour seamlessly organized (we saw Algiers, Cherchell and Tipaza, Ghardaia, Constantine and Djemila), but most importantly he was friendly, always reachable, and very nimble during the tour — our flight to Ghardaia was delayed by 5 hours due to a sandstorm and our flight from Constantine was delayed by 2 hours. In both cases Omar was on top of the situation and we had backup plans. We always had competent drivers and guides, and comfortable, clean, and reasonably priced hotels. I highly recommend — it was a fantastic trip due to Omar!!

Beautiful country, great tour agency!
I travel with Fancyellow in early April for 11 days. Started in southeast desert at Tassil N’ajjer and the entire crew of guide, cook and drivers were excellent. They showed us amazing Yoco formations and provided delicious salads, soups and meals thruout my stay. We also visited Garoua, Constantine, Algiers, Cherchell and Tipaza - the guides were very knowledgeable and helpful. Overall very happy with the planning, schedule and execution of a very well rounded programme. Omar was attentive to all our requests and made our vacation very memorable. I would definetely use their services again

Superb
I had a wonderful trip to Algeria thanks to Omar/FancYellow. Knowledgeable, helpful, friendly - as were the guides he organised in Constantine and Oran too. Oran was successfully arranged at very short notice after sandstorms prevented me flying to Ghardaïa. Book with these guys and you will not be disappointed :-)

Amazing Time in Algeria
Had an amazing 2 week trip in Algeria with Omar. He was super easy to coordinate with prior to the trip. I basically told him my interests and he came up with a perfect itinerary and was extremely flexible based on what I wanted to do. We visited Algiers and the Casbah, Tipaza and Cherchell, Taghit, Constantine, Timgad, Djemila, Bejaia and Ghardaia, Omar also used some other local guides in some of the other cities (Zaki in Algiers and Bilal in Constantine were great!) Algeria is one of my favorite countries I’ve been to. Omar really helped make that happen. I plan to use Omar again next time I go to Algeria. Highly recommended!

I had two separate tours with Fancy Yellow - the Casbah in Algiers and then Cherchell and Tipaza. Both really great! Everything the company did ran very smoothly. My guide was knowledgable and accommodating. Really a great couple days out learning more about Algeria.

Omar is great!
I went on a two-week long tour of Algeria that was organized by Omar with three of my friends. We had the absolute greatest time. Algeria is an amazing, off-the-beaten-path country and I couldn't think of anyone better to have shown us around than Omar! Omar is a ton of fun, super knowledgeable, and so friendly. I can't wait to come back!

An Excellent Algerian Experience Thanks to an Incredible Guide
There are guides that you want to forget when you travel and there are guides that you never want to forget.Omar is a guide that you never want to forget . I have now traveled to 143 countries and have used many many guides .Omar definitely stands within the circle of the best of them . I spent 5 days with Omar travelling in Algeria .During that time we became very good friends. He is a most genuine and jovial fellow . he is a really fun guy to be with. He has a deep respect for his country and his culture . I actually looked forward to spending each and everyday with him .Omar looked after me with kid gloves . Being a senior citizen he was aware of some of my physical limitations and he adjusted the pace accordingly .From the moment that I met him at the airport until I had to sadly say goodbye five days later he gave me his complete attention .We had a lot of fun together and that made my trip so genuine. He is a very proud family man who works hard to make is business a success. He knows a lot of people in Algiers and this shows with his off the beaten tourist track wanderings .He introduced me to his friends and this allowed me to grasp a real appreciation for Algerian culture and tradition . He is a very ,very honest fellow and you will probably not find another Algerian guide that will look after you with such care and attention . Meeting him and spending five days with him was actually the highlight of my Algerian trip . I highly recommend Omar and his company . He is truly an unforgettable guy. Skip Nieman Ottawa Canada
