Overview

Fly from Oahu to see the wonders of the Big Island. This jet-setting day-trip with airfare and transpiration included stops at the black sand beaches of Hilo, Rainbow falls, and Akatsuka Gardens, home of a $20,000 orchid. Hike along a crater’s edge in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and walk inside the Thurston Lava Tube. Tour the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory and more before flying back to the departure point.

What to Expect

Catch an early morning ride from Waikiki, Oahu to the Honolulu Airport and then fly to Big Island. After landing, begin with a guided tour of the 30-acre (12-hectare), Japanese Gardens at Hilo’s Liliuokalani Gardens. Next, visit the black sand beaches stretching 3,000-feet (914-metres) along Hilo Bay Beachfront Park. At Wailuku River State Park, follow your guide through a tropical forest to 80-foot (24-metre) Rainbow Falls. After, visit Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory and learn the art of harvesting and roasting. In the mountains, walk the greenhouses of the Akatsuka Orchid Gardens where 1,000 plants flourish including an orchid valued at $20,000. Finally, hike along a crater rim in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, visit the massive Thurston Lava Tube, a 600-foot (183-meter) cylinder of centuries-old lava; and see active red lava in the landscape at dusk (sunset time permitting). Fly back to Oahu to your drop-off point at night.

Should not be sold with it's current title/itinerary

Due to the current eruptions the Volcano Park is currently closed and unlikely to re-open until sometime in 2019 at the earliest.....but there is no mention of this in the tour description. You are not allowed anywhere near the eruption so taking this trip, which...More

Great trip

It was a long day travelling by bus but it was worth it. You see multiple lava tubes created by lava, it is quite cold like a rain forest at the top near the crater. There is a restaurant that over looks the crater and...More

A great way to visit Volcanoes National Park from Honolulu (but read the small print)

This tour was very good (but see my comment below about logistics to help you find the tour and the return shuttle). We wanted a day trip from Honolulu that emphasized Volcano National Park and this was perfect. With an early morning flight and a...More

Almost certainly the trips will still be running. The big island is expansive and many options to view volcano without being too close or in danger. Some eruptions have been ongoing for years.
