Overview
On this 4.5-hour round-trip tour to Mount Vernon, gain a whole new perspective on U.S. history. On the way, a guide provides fascinating historical background and stories about points of interest in Old Town Alexandria that are often unmarked and easy to miss. While most guided tours stick to rigid schedules, you are free to explore George Washington’s former home at your own pace.
What to Expect

Board the bus at L’Enfant Plaza in downtown DC. Rather than navigating out of the city on your own, sit back and listen to on-board commentary during the scenic 30-minute ride to Mount Vernon, home of George Washington.

During the drive, the guide points out landmarks you may have missed have you come on your own, including General Robert E. Lee’s boyhood home and a tavern once frequented by the Founding Fathers. Enjoy the sights of historic Alexandria from the comfort of the coach as you make your way to Mount Vernon.

On arrival, explore at your own pace. Visit the gardens overlooking the Potomac River, the slave memorial and burial grounds, the outbuildings, and the Washingtons’ tombs. No need to purchase tickets in advance, as they are included in the tour.

About 4.5 hours later, return with the guide to the tour’s original point of departure in Washington DC.

Inspiring experience

We went on this trip with a large group of 8th graders. The weather was clear and cool. There was enough bright sunlight that we were permitted to take pictures indoors without he flash. The house is well preserved and the grounds are meticulously cared...More

Simply fantastic

What a wonderful place to visit! Love the intro films, the grounds, the history and could easily spend many many hours here. It was a choice between here and Monticello, but time constraints made this one more feasible!

Excellent tour

This was a very interesting tour that included highlights of old town Alexandria. Our driver/tour guide Charles was entertaining and educational at the same time. This is an excellent way to see Mt. Vernon.

I don't think so. We got on across from the Postal Headquarters and did not make a stop along the way to pick up others.
