About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Atulspeaks0 contributionsGreat customer service !The bike check in experience was great . We were briefed well . However , both bikes had problem multiple times . The chain kept coming off , and one bike lost all power while climbing . But the customer service , and the replacement on. road was very quick - with in 15 minutes . And they refunded our money too. Waiheke is a great place to ride with stunning views , and I would recommend the E-bike.Written 14 December 2024

- philipwV8333LX0 contributionsGreat way to see the islandI rented a bike last minute having originally intended to use the buses and I’m so glad I did. It’s a fantastic way to see the Island at your own pace & the electric assist was certainly welcome as there are one or two hills! The bike I used was brand new. I was also provided with a lock & a pannier for my rucksack which was really helpful. One minor improvement I would suggest is a map holder on the handlebars as trying to read the map & cycle is dangerous. Otherwise I thought it was a good product if a little expensive at just over NZD 100 including a card charge.Written 12 December 2023
- 460brianm0 contributionsVery professional and efficient and a pleasure to deal withWe were superbly looked after by J at eride when renting our ebikes today - he couldn't have been more helpful or professional in his dealings with us, and we would highly recommend ebikes.Written 30 November 2023
- Jason B0 contributionsGreat day outBooked on-line and no hassles when we got off the ferry. We given a map with great explanation of the island and why riding the route depicted was the best and safest, we did the 5 bays ride (with some extra side trips). Bikes were charged and in good condition, we got a thorough briefing on how everything worked. We had no issues with either bike and had a fantastic day out. I don’t normally ride an e-bike, but on Waiheke it was a blessing as it certainly has some hills. We did 40km and still had battery left at the end. Would happily do the rental again.Written 30 November 2023

Booking online was straightforward, as was picking up the bike right at the quayside. Simple but comprehensive briefing and then I was off. Never having ridden an e-bike before, I was a little apprehensive but it was easy to pick up and it took me all around the island with ease. Was fun to be able to stop where I wanted and stay as little/long as I wished rather than having to work to the bus schedule. Battery lasted easily for the whole day. Only note of caution is that you do spend much of the journey on relatively narrow roads shared with cars, trucks and buses, so you need to be comfortable cycling in traffic and holding your nerve as the truck goes past...overall would highly recommend and definitely use again

eRide Waiheke are the best of the three bike hire companies we've used in NZ. Great bikes, very professional. In particular, Will did a great job of explaining the best route around the island, annotating the large detailed map with his notes of the best places to see and stop off. Thanks very much.

Correctly sized bikes were waiting for us together with a pannier, lock and good quality helmets. After a clear briefing on the route map and an electric bike familiarisation we set off. It's a lovely way to see the island and it's sandy beaches. All the turning points are marked with blue bike-specific signs so following the route is a breeze. Parts of the route are quite hilly but there is ample battery capacity, even for this 76-year-old using maximum assistance. These guys look after you 🤩

As a regular bike ride of e-bikes I thought this ride would be a piece of cake. However these bikes did not have as much power as ours do so the hills were tough. We rode on a weekday and was told it was good as there was not much traffic-their definition of traffic is not the same as mine. I’m just glad I didn’t ride on a weekend. Please beware that there is a lot of road riding and buses, cars and trucks pass you at a fast speed. They may be “used to” bike riders but that didn’t make them slow down. Also when transitioning from the road to the wide sidewalk be aware that the curb isn’t not flat as it is in the US. Great place for a wipe out as not only did I wipe out but later on the day we watched another person wipe out. I was thankful for the helmet as my head bounced on the sidewalk. (Now in the US if your helmet takes a hit it should be replaced. No idea if these helmets have been replaced after a fall or not.). I was just glad I was wearing one. They give you a nice saddle bag but it would be really nice is there was a first aid kit stocked in the bag as we had nothing to stop the bleeding from road rash on my elbow and knee. Neither did the other person who wrecked. The directions are slightly confusing and looking at a map while road riding was not easy. We made several wrong turns. The scenery and beaches were beautiful but trying to look at the scenery and ride and watch for cars made me wish I had taken a bus or rented a car. We did meet a nice local who was riding that rode part way with us and got us headed back to the pier. He wanted to “show” us some more stuff but we were done. All in all I would not do it again unless I had my own bike with more power and a throttle for those unexpected times you really need to speed up. Also would be nice if you were able to communicate through the helmets as my husband got way ahead of me at times going downhill and I wasn’t sure where to turn because he had the phone holder and the map. We have helmet attachments where we can talk to each other on our bike helmets and horse riding helmets and this would make all the difference in the world—like stop I crashed🤦🏻♀️. The good thing was my Apple Watch immediately notified me that I had taken a hard fall and offered to call 911. So unless you a very fit regular bike rider (and not e bikes with throttles) I would not recommend this adventure. Also glad my kids weren’t so the me due to the large amount of road ridding. We did take our bright orange shirts and glad we did to keep us visible. Highly recommend that if you plan to do this.

Hi Nanshi,
Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate you sharing your experience. Our e-bikes are designed for a balanced ride, though we understand they may feel different from personal models with throttles.
We hope you are fully recovered from your fall .
For safety, we provide first aid kits to riders heading to more remote areas like Man O’ W since the 5 Bay Ride stays within 15 minutes of medical assistance. We regularly inspect and replace helmets to ensure rider safety.
Traffic on Waiheke is minimal compared to Auckland or other cities, but riders do share the road with cars. As with any biking experience, staying aware of your surroundings is key. We offer a short test ride before setting off to ensure you’re comfortable with the bike and road conditions.
In regards to your desire of using helmet attachments to talk to other riders , these are not part of the rental gear we offer. Riders are welcome to bring in any extra gear that may come handy for the day.
We’re glad you enjoyed Waiheke’s stunning scenery and beaches.

Friendly staff when we picked up 2 bikes for ride around as much of the island as we could manage in 4 hours. However after about 50 minutes of riding one of the bikes was down to 2 bars of battery, soon dropping to 1 bar. Priority was to get the bike back to the ferry point, meaning we missed out on a vineyard visit. No one at the kiosk at the ferry port when we arrived back, so couldn't get additional charge to bike so opted for an earlier ferry back to Auckland. I've emailed the company about a partial refund but their only response so far has been to ask if we were told to call the office if we had any problems.

Hi Liz
Yes you are correct if any one of our riders has an issue, running out of battery charge is one of them, or any querries during their ride they call our number and we will assit, this was indicated at the induction and the number is on the ebike, and the map, you should have reached out.
Our staff on support are only 15-20 min away on the 5 Bays ride loop. The ebike would have been swapped and you could easily visit the last vineyard, Mudbrick which is the last stop on the loop ride and only 10 min ride from the Ferry.

Perfect way to get around the island. Don’t underestimate the amount and height of the hills on this island! You defiantly need an e-bike!
Mark was super approachable, even picked us up on short notice to get the bicycles and then came to our accommodation to pick them up later.
$90 per day is expensive, compared to other ways of transport, but it was entertainment for the whole day and so worth it!

Best way to explore the island! Bikes are brand new, you can easily drive up hills all day without getting tired. Battery is more than you need for a full day biking around.
Communication is easy, and they delivered our bikes early in the morning at our accommodation (extra costs involved but worth it for us as we stayed in onetangi).
Would highly recommend!

The process of collecting our bikes was very smooth and friendly and we felt that the company had thought of everything - phone holder, pannier, bike lock etc. Thankfully we did not need to call for assistance whilst cycling but reassurance was provided including trackers on the bikes if we didn't know where we were! A beautiful sunny day and a very happy way to explore Waiheke.

The bicycles were ready, they received a bicycle bag and lock, which was great. Kind of E-Mounting bike, which is very well powered, making cycling very easy.
The route is super beautiful, lots of beautiful views, with room for swimming, wines, and food.
Everything for a successful day, partly thanks to Will.

I am a 77 year old female with lots of average riding experience, but I found this excursion very challenging. It is LOTS of hills and narrow roads. When I checked in, they showed me a map and it said the riding time would be one hour and 15 minutes. Under the circumstances, it was much longer for me. Another problem was the map they provided was very general and unclear. They provided a scanned map also for Google maps but it kept blanking out and I had to rescan and reload it, at least ten times. Overall, I would not do it again. It is for much younger and stronger, experienced riders. The eBike was great and easy to use. The price was good.
