About
Waiheke Island is an artsy and creative place. On this tour you’ll discover the best of its arts scene, and meet talented artists, with the help of an expert local guide. Here's just some of what we'll do: Visit art galleries in Oneroa, including an artists’ collective and the Community Art Gallery. Tour the local sculpture park and learn about this intriguing array of outdoor art. Visit sculptors and painters in their studios - and even get to meet an artisan shoemaker! Have lunch (included in the price) at an artist's home. Walk through the Atawhai-Whenua Forest & Bird Reserve to the Ferry Terminal or Community Gallery where we finish. Our Art Walk takes approximately five hours and is done at a very leisurely pace so you can enjoy both the art and the scenery around you. You will come away feeling inspired by what you have seen, the artists you have met and the beauty you have enjoyed while wandering through bush tracks and local roads.

Unique combination of art, nature and life on Waiheke Island
Jan 2020
I really enjoyed my walking art tour with Walking By Nature. It was a leisurely day wandering between galleries and studios while hearing about life on the island as well as NZ history and current affairs - our conversation over the course of the day took many twists and turns which was wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting various artists and getting firsthand insights about their work. Highly recommend!

Fantastic combination of nature and art
Jan 2020
I loved my walking tour with Justine! We visited a specially curated selection of art galleries and studios in artists homes. It was delightful to meet the various artists and see their creative spaces. After a delicious lunch at one of the studios, the tour shifted to the exploration of local nature, birds and trees along one of Waiheke's many walking trails. Justine's knowledge of both the art and nature of the island was so impressive, and it was a pleasure to spend a few hours with her on my visit. Two thumbs up for this experience!

Art Walk on Waiheke
Apr 2019 • Solo
I did the Art Walk on Waiheke last weekend and really enjoyed it. Michael and Justine, our guides, were friendly and enthusiastic about the island and its many artists. We visited the art gallery and other art storefronts, but they also brought us to the homes of various artists who I would not have known to visit on my own, and we had lunch at the beautiful home of artist Gabriella Lewenz. On top of all this we did quite a bit of walking. Michael also gave me lots of ideas for other activities while on the island, which I really appreciated.

Magical discovery !

Thank you it was "magique" !
Our party of four enjoyed immensely our time out over the far end of the island.
Michael was a great help in anticipating or answering questions as we went along with him at the wheel. It made for a very professional yet friendly experience.
Michael's love of the Island created a shared experience that went way beyond the call of duty. Would have enjoyed another couple of hours...Next time maybe !

Enriching and stimulating
Nov 2018 • Couples
We enjoyed the Art Walk with Michael, who is a wonderful host. He introduced us to the artists, who were very happy to chat about their work and creative process. It was a very stimulating day. Lunch at Gabriella's was delicious and wonderfully scenic. We are good walkers so we didn't struggle with the walk, but participants should be ready to walk around 13,000 steps, including some uphills (although the inclines were gentle, not strenuous). The views were magnificent and we would highly recommend this unique experience.

Great tour
Dec 2017 • Couples
Highly recommend this tour. Louis our guide was very knowledgeable about the island and the artists residing there. We were made very welcome at the artists homes and studios. Louis extended the tour a little to cover the nature aspect of the island. Take good walking shoes as the island is very hilly but the views are outstanding.

Art - What a Great Way to Experience Waiheke!
Dec 2017 • Couples
Most enjoyable day on Waiheke Island! We wanted to see the island from the perspective of the creative artists that live there and who's work is inspired by its natural beauty. Walking by Nature and especially our young local guide, Louie, delivered. We loved the mix of public and private art, sculpture, craft, and jewelry. The host artists were most gracious in showing us their studio space and work. It was a hot day and two of the artists even offered to drive us to the next stop. Although we purchsed a few items, we didn't feel pressured to buy anywhere and photography was allowed (we asked at each studio). The time just flew by and finished up with a lovely coastal/bush walk back to our starting point at the public gallery. We definitely saw more, than we might have on our own. We were expected at each studio and Louie gave a great explanation of the other areas we visited. It was an easy 35 minute ferry ride from Auckland to join the tour. We recommend this tour to anyone looking for something other than the typical winery/tasting tour of Waiheke.

So glad you enjoyed your art walk - it's a fantastic way to spend a day on the island if you are interested in art as you found out and you get to discover some of our natural beauty as well - many thanks for your thoughtful review.
