- rogerhX7175WE0 contributionsCharlotte Sound Eko tourFab boat tour with Andy and enthusiastic Will - was our best day yet in NZ. Saw a host of rare seabirds as well as captain pugwash (fur seal) and friendly hector dolphins. Thanks all For a great day!Written 20 January 2025
- danielbS2108LS0 contributionsGreat way to spend the afternoon!Ideal afternoon cruise with a lovely hike to hilltop observation. Fun birdwatching, dolphins, seals… felt like we got the full experience. Little sun, light workout, plenty of leisure (coffee, snack, a secret Pinot Gris.) cap’n Dan and Guide Will were… superb!Written 17 January 2025
- Road306245785590 contributionsBest trip around Malborough SoundsHad the best trip. Will, the guide and Andy the pilot were so good, providing explanations about the fur seal, birds including a really rare one that Will hadn't seen on previous trips and then dolphins, just to top off the trip. Highly recommend to allWritten 14 January 2025
- C8681XLwendyb0 contributionsAn unforgettable experience - not to be missed.Wonderful experience! Highly recommend E-Ko tour guide Will for his depth of knowledge and passion for the local wildlife and skipper Andy for spotting so many of them. We saw many varieties of birds in the water, on the wing and on the bird sanctuary, including 30 rare king shags on a rock! Also a beautiful fur seal sunbathing and several rare Hectors dolphins swam right up to our boat. The tour company is very committed to ecotourism and followed all the guidelines for visiting Motorua bird sanctuary (unlike another group we observed who brought bags and food onto the island). An unforgettable experience - not to be missed.Written 14 January 2025
- michellemP7372DH0 contributionsLearn about the animals, plants and predator free islands - thanks E-Ko tours and NZ!Great company, great skipper and guide - thanks Nicki : ) Learnt about fauna, saw hector dolphins and many amazing birds. Having them identified and explained added a new dimension to my understanding. Was interesting learning about the predator free islands and general ecology of the area. Many thanks.Written 14 January 2025
- Joppy06080 contributionsGood cruise with informative staffGood cruise with informative staff. Conditions were not the best so unfortunately we did not see any dolphins but saw birds & seals. Highlight of the trip was being so close to Robins on Motuara island. Only thing I would change would be there should be enough seating for everyone on board to sit especially when the sea is rough.Written 7 January 2025
- franziskah20250 contributionsAwesome experienceThe tour was awesome, we saw a lot of wildlife (dolphins, seals, birds) and our guides were awesome. Camille had loads of extra information for us and it showed that she really cares for the wildlife & providing a special experience. Thank you for that!Written 5 January 2025
- mkerkhoff20220 contributionsBeautiful wildlife tripBeautiful views, knowledgeable staff and very friendly and accommodating on board. We had a 2yr old with us and Dan, Nikki and Rob helped make it a great experience for her.Written 4 January 2025

- cspersmatt0 contributionsExcellent trip for bird watching and rarely seen marine lifeWonderful tour with many animal sightings, including rare birds and critically endangered dolphins. Boat is well equipped and staff made every effort to ensure guests had a memorable experience.Written 30 December 2024
- albi1ross0 contributionsA first class experience led by a crew who clearly know their stuff. BrilliantThe reviews I read after booking this cruise set the bar pretty high and I have to say that it exceeded my expectations. The guides Will and Celine were both very keen to ensure we saw everything and knowledgable and willing to discuss any queries we may have. Our skipper who I think was Andy was equally approachable and clearly knew where best to look for our target species. Highlights for me were our close encounters with Hectors Dolphins, King Shags and the amazingly confiding South Island Robins on Motuara Island where we spent an hour ashore. I could go on waxing lyrical about today, but one word will do. Brilliant.Written 29 December 2024
- peterjg2000 contributionsOrange-fronted parakeets on Blumine Island, Marlborough SoundWe had a very enjoyable day with Will (who is from the UK and has a great sense of humour!) and Dan, starting with a briefing on the shore and then we set out into Marlborough Sound. We were the only two people dropped on Blumine Island - by means of a ladder dropped over the front of the boat!!! We wanted to see the rare orange-fronted parakeet - and were successful using Will's hint on where it was most likely to be found. We were (hooray!) picked up after five hours on the island, and then we joined the afternoon passengers on a visit to Motuara Island. We were given a hot drink on the way back to Picton, and then a bonus glass of wine. There were plenty of other sightings on the trip including dolphins and the very rare king shag, only found in Marlborough Sound. Such a good way to spend a day.Written 29 December 2024
- Rebecca_lebeka0 contributionsIncredible tour in the Queen Charlotte Sounds with lots of wild animalsThe guides Will and Dan were amazing, they explained a lot and made the tour very fun. We got to see the Hector's and bottlenose dolphins and several different birds. I can really recommend this tour.Written 26 December 2024
- OnAir080338807560 contributionsGreat Motuara Island experienceWe had a great morning despite some rain. The crew, Andy & Will, were very knowledgeable and very friendly providing humorous chat along with the information. We were able to see a penguin, king shag and other shag species as well as gannets and a fur seal. On the island, we saw Robins and a saddleback despite the weather. No dolphins today, but we will be back.Written 26 December 2024

We chose to go on the E-Ko Motuara Island Bird Sanctuary & Dolphin watching Tour after speaking with the very friendly & informative Nicky at reception. Fortunately it was blue skies & sunshine for our afternoon cruise ☀️ Captain Paul guided us through the picturesque Marlborough Sounds to Motuara Island. We saw a variety of bird life (cormorants, shearwaters, penguins) & dolphins playing along the journey. Seeing the bottlenose & hector dolphins were spectacular & such a highlight for us to see. We walked with our wonderful guide Alice up to the Motuara Island lookout where there were spectacular views of the Tasman & ship cove. Thank you Alice & Paul for sharing your knowledge. It was a very informative & most enjoyable afternoon we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

We originally booked a half day wildlife and dolphin tour, but couldn't do this, as minimum booking numbers were not reached. Communication from the company was good and they offered us a dolphin swim, which we weren't keen on in winter. In the end, we went on a shorter dolphin watch cruise. There were just 3 of us on board and the staff were all excited to join us. We saw a couple of dolphins in the distance almost immediately, but continued to join a pod in one of the bays. We were able to watch the dolphins feed, then play and swim around the boat. We were privileged to watch Dusky Dolphins and critically endangered Hector's Dolphins as well as New Zealand Fur Seals up very close. We stayed with the dolphins for an hour (maximum time allowed) before heading to a King Shag colony on the way back to Port. It was amazing to see so many marine mammals so close and to interact with them for such a long period of time. I usually get sea sick, but was fine in the calm waters on this 2 hour cruise. I highly recommend this company.

Eko Tours cancelled our tour for 7 people at 5pm the evening before our 9am cruise. They would not help us find another cruise during out short stay in Picton as they said they were the only one of its kind. The lady also informed me that they were very busy over the Easter weekend so it was not worth it for them to take out such a small party as it did not meet their $900 quota. I expressed my disappointment as the cruise was purchased as Christmas presents for my children and that we were only staying in Picton for one night for the purpose of the cruise and explained how terribly disappointed my children were, as we had traveled form Sydney, and she hung up on me!!
A company more worried about the bottom line than customer service!!

It was a surprise bday gift - and an incredible one! We were originally sscheduled to cruise in the afternoon but bc it want sure to depart they reached out and we did the morning one instead. 1st of all, the Marlborough sound is absolutely stunning, and we had very calm water : it allowed us to see 2 of the endemic dolphins species present there : the dusky dolphins (they jumped out of the water for us!) and almost 10 Hector's dolphins they came very close, even swan under the boat! Those were fantastic encounters, + we got to see seals, blue penguins and a lot of very cool birds ! Very small boat with very few ppl, which made it all the more enjoyable. Overall fantastic experience, and shout out to Hanna and captain who shared all of their knowledge with us and we're very helpful.

Excellent tour. Knowledgable and friendly captain and guide. We had a great viewing of both a pod of dusky and common dolphins. The walk to the top of the hill was interesting and the views nice. Weather wasn't great, but no one can be blamed for that!!!

I did both the dolphin half day cruise and rented an electric moped. Can’t recommend these guys enough. The group for dolphin cruise was small and personal not packed up to nines like a few I saw leave harbour and the staff were friendly and passionate about their work along with a conservation ethos and respect for wildlife. We were lucky enough to see and experience a pod of hector dolphins, sea lion just chilling in the sun, a blue penguin and a variety of rare sea birds. If you choose any cruise would definitely recommend for an amazing personal experience.
Electric moped was a great way to get out and about from Picton without renting a car.

We were on a cruise ship that docked in Picton and were very happy we chose this tour. We opted to view and were not disappointed with the approx 60 dolphins that surrounded the boat, including mothers with babies and jumping dolphins. The tour took 2 hours since we were quick to spot the dolphins and the 2 passengers who swam with them did so twice. Also enjoyed a nature walk close to the boat after the tour.
