- Adventure261298596970 contributionsOne of the best Hikes I’ve doneWe did the 4 day hike of the Queen Charlotte. From pickup to drop off the trip was fabulous. Great team from Wilderness. The hike was challenging on some days but very doable. Accommodation was tops and in some lodges food was more on the higher price. We would have preferred more casual dining but not complaining.Written 8 December 2024
- 13tahlias0 contributionsCannot recommend this company enough!!!Cannot recommend this company enough!!! I took a school group of 12 from Australia to Picton to do the Queen Charlotte Track and the sea kayaking. The guides Jake and Shaun were excellent! They were so knowledgeable, fun and enjoyable to be around. Martyn and Hayley had exceptional communication skills leading up to our trip and we were very pleased with how they managed and oversaw our trip, including accommodation and transfers. Our students rated this trip an 11/10! We will definitely be booking this again 😊Written 24 November 2024
- Evelyn M0 contributionsAmazing Experience! We had the most amazing time doing the half day kayak tour. We were very lucky that we were the only people to have booked on to the tour so we had the luxury of a private tour from Alex, our tour guide. He was really friendly and kind, providing us with a lot of interesting facts and information. As we aren’t experienced kayakers, he ensured we were okay and the tour was at our pace so we never felt rushed at all. Furthermore, the views, landscapes and wildlife were incredible. It was an amazing experience, definitely would recommend!Written 19 November 2024
- samcQ6519TD0 contributionsA pleasure to deal withWe have just completed the 4 day independent Queen Charlotte Track hike witnessing some breathtaking views of the Marlborough Sounds. I can throughly recommend these guys for your booking. They organised our bags and accommodation on the way which made the trip. Thanks guys for a great holiday, Sam, Sue and BrianWritten 1 November 2024
- njsnarky0 contributionsNice MTB trails for all levelsI came off cruise ship and rented an e-mountain bike for 4 hours. (Half day). Nice trails, well marked, not too crowded (but narrow, so caution at turns). I took easy trail and also wandered through town. Helmet provided but no lock or safety vest. Staff super helpful. Bikes in good shape with many features.Written 22 October 2024
- khutchingsx0 contributionsA Great Way To See The Marlborough Sounds! This was my second time booking a kayaking excursion with Wilderness Guides, and I would highly recommend. We saw jellyfish, an eagle ray, and plenty of seabirds while we were out—plus, getting to soak up some sun on the water was a perfect way to spend the afternoon!Written 30 September 2024
- Walshy250 contributionsJust book it and enjoy the hike and serviceWe completed the 3 day upgrade independent Queen Charlotte Track hike in May 24 and it was fantastic. - 159carolynk0 contributionsWell-Planned Hike, Flawless ExecutionThis is the second time in 20 years that I have selected Wilderness Guides to coordinate my 4 day hike of the Queen Charlotte Track. Both times everything went flawlessly, from pickup at our hotel, in-person briefing of the track and what to expect along the way, boat transportation to the beginning of the track, selection of lodges and rooms, to final drop-off again at our hotel. I felt comfortable that if we had any snags along the way, we would receive a fast and courteous resolution. Their website provided helpful information, along with their maps. I would definitely choose to work with them again.Written 4 April 2024
- beckyduncan20 contributionsMagnificent Memories4 Day Guided Walk including 1 day Kayak Queen Charlotte What an amazing journey. While I didn't walk, the others in our group said it was beautiful. First 2 days were challenging but manageable. 3rd day was very challenging, some opted out of this day. (Himself and I took the opportunity to take a scenic flight which was beyond beautiful). Pelorus Air picked us up from Punga Lodge and dropped us off at The Portage. Day 4 was the kayaking across the Torea Bay. Very beautiful, the day was calm and clear, the water like glass which was perfect. It was a long trip, and we were glad when it was over, but the trip itself was enjoyable. Anyway, back to commenting on Wilderness Guides, they provided us with a problem free adventure. All of their team were so much fun and engaging. Our guides were Sean and Kayla. I'd travel with them again anytime. Great sense of humor and awesome local knowledge. The surprise was having a hot 'cuppa' on the tracks. Lunches were plentiful, we took extra nuts and bars just in case, but didn't need much. The package price was very fair, the accommodation was first rate, and the food was beyond expectations. OMGoodness the beds at night were super comfortable too. Each property provided quality shampoo, conditioner and soaps. Will definitely use this company again. Thanks guys :)Written 27 March 2024
- Pioneer391981501550 contributionsLoved mountain biking the QCT!We had an amazing 3 days on the QCT. We signed up for the self-guided hike/bike/kayak option, but actually ended up doing 2 days of MTB and one day of kayaking as we were enjoying mountain biking in NZ so much! The Wilderness Guides team made everything very easy- swapping our MTBs out for kayaks at the appropriate stage and so on. The MTB experience was really fun with amazing views, tiny coves and beautiful forest all the way. We upgraded to eMTBs and that was super fun, and meant less pushing up the steep sections. Accommodation (Mahana Lodge and Portage Resort) was fab too. Highly recommend. And if you like MTB i would be tempted to do the whole 3 days on the bikes - it was super fun.Written 23 March 2024
- Trail6791850 contributionsA fabulous experienceWe were a group of 6 friends who have done a lot of trekking including overseas. We were just bowled over by the beauty of the area, the old growth rainforest and views of the serene waterways of Marlborough Sound. Our guide Jake, was incredibly knowledgable about the flora, fauna and history of the area which added to our enjoyment and appreciation of the area. Highly recommend Wilderness Guides.Written 17 March 2024
- 959ondines0 contributionsGreat experience for us 60 year old Aussies!Wilderness Guides helped us organise our independent walk for 3 days in the Queen Charlotte Sound. Their communications were helpful, prompt and personal and their briefing at the start of our walk was excellent and answered any other questions we may have had. Their arrangements for water taxi transport, guide on Motorua Island, accommodation at Furneaux and Mahana Lodges, packed lunches for the track, supply of maps and other equipment, all went without a hitch. We were very, very happy to have them make all our arrangements and we think if was good value for money. And the sounds themselves were so incredibly beautiful, so picturesque, sometimes we had to pinch ourselves. Well worth doing.Written 12 March 2024
- CookbookTourist0 contributions4 day Queen Charlotte Walk exceeded expectationsVery professional & friendly company. We did the self-guided 4 day walk & every step worked seamlessly & well. We were helped by perfect weather but the boat connections, track information, accommodation, packed lunches and beautiful scenery have spoiled me for other walks. I normally carry a pack, but not sure anymore… Special shout outs to David’s Chef’s Table at Mahana Lodge & to all the Wilderness Guides staff who do such a great job - especially Di who was a delight to deal with by email and phone.Written 23 February 2024
- wendysJ6058UP0 contributionsBeautiful Queen Charlottes TrackThis 4 day guided walk thru the beautiful Marlborough area was such a fantastic experience. The group dynamics were lovely, the weather pleasant and Jake, our guide, was so knowledgeable about the environment, the birds, the local history. The accommodations and meals were better than expected. I'm vegetarian and for the most part the food was tailored to this requirement and still very delicious. There was quite a lot of freedom given to each group participate as to their choice to walk with the group or have some solo time, as well as the distances and days of participation. While I realize that Jake and Wilderness Guides didn't control our beautiful weather, what they did coordinate was flawless! I highly recommend.Written 19 February 2024

Kayaking in the Marlborough Sounds was the absolute highlight of our weekend trip to Picton. Martyn was our amazing guide who knew alot about the history of the sounds, plant life and wildlife. He tailored the 1-day guided tour to suit how adventurous we wanted to make it and we couldn't have asked for anything or anyone better. We would recommend this experience to anyone who visits Picton, it definitely opened our eyes to how beautiful the area is and how lucky we are to see it from this perspective.

Can't recommend these guys enough.
Booking was done online quick & easy.
On the day of our booking the weather was not the best, no dramas we could go, reschedule or a full refund was offered.
We went the next morning and had a wonderful time.
Our guide Jenna was so passionate and knowledgeable about Picton and the Sounds. She explained everything about the wildlife and fauna and took us to some lovely bays. Where we saw a school of stingrays, a seal sunbaking and the infamous tree penguins.
If in Picton this is a must for everyone even for beginners

We did the full day kayak tour. Group was my wife, me, and our guide, Alex. We had a great day. Alex explained a broad variety of things about the area including rays, fish, birds, history, and legends. It was a bit windy so he found sheltered spots to paddle and talk. Not overly taxing. We had a good time and were glad we took the tour.

Had a beautiful day kayaking in the sounds. We came to Picton on a cruise ship. The staff were flexible with our time crunch and made sure we got the most out of our time on the water. Loved kayaking in the beautiful sounds and had a great guide.

The full day sea kayak guided tour is safe, well provisioned and enjoyable. We had kayaks and paddles which were in excellent condition. Waterproof sea bags kept our stuff dry. The spray skirts and life jackets were clean and comfortable. Alex, our guide was patient and competent. His local knowledge enabled us to spy numerous short and long tailed stingrays in sheltered coves. We also chanced upon seals sunbathing on a rocky outcrop. The highlight, however, was encountering a pod of playful dolphins who swam amongst our kayaks and breached the water numerous times in a display of grace and power. It was quite an experience indeed! Lunch on a quiet beach with toilet facilities comprised fresh fruit, delicious sandwiches, chocolate chip slices and coffee. What a wonderful day on the water! A great introduction to Queen Charlotte Sound!

Marty guided us around a snippet of Marlborough Sounds spotting wildlife, pointing out locations and any water hazards. Also minimising the amount of time in difficult conditions - running along this edge to avoid the wind, going this way to have it behind us and so on. The lunch provided was delicious and more than adequate and a lovely lunch stop to enjoy it at.

We had the best time kayaking around the sounds. We got to see dolphins and seals swimming right next to the boat. Our guide Merlin was really knowledgeable. It was so fun that I didn’t even feel tired kayaking the whole day.

Hi. we are arriving on the Crystal symphony 3/28/2019 at 9:00AM, departing 5PM. There are 4 adults thinking of a kayak tour. Noticed your departure time is before we dock and couldn't tell how long the tour was or if there is pick up close to the cruise port.
Thanks
