What a great way to spend a Sunday morning out on the beautiful harbour with an informative commentary about the history and wildlife of the area. Then the delight of seeing a pod of Hectors dolphins. A free Mimosa for Mothers Day completed the treat
Thanks Roy and Sabina for a great trip

My family and I had a terrific experience on the Fox II, scoring the trifecta of Hector’s dolphins, Little blue penguins and seals. Captain Roy is a hard case enthusiast and perfectly pitched the trip for adults and children alike.

We had a brilliant time on the Fox 2 and cannot rate it highly enough. We saw a little blue penguin, seals, shags and, the ones that got everyone excited, dolphins. We also learned a lot about the geology and history of the area. It was lovely cruising under the sails. We will definitely do this again when we have friends or family staying. Thanks for a great afternoon.

Getting out on Akaroa Harbour to the heads and then into the open ocean is an incredible experience but to do this on a 100 year old kauri ketch amongst the graceful Hectors dolphins while the ketch rides the waves and the winds tugs at sails is like a step back into a previous age. The captain gave an excellent commentary and with his skilled crew kept us safe while informing us of the history and wildlife of the harbour. It was brilliant.

We had a great cruise despite some gnarly weather on the way back but the crew dealt with it very well. I was impressed how prepared they were and they were friendly, knowledgeable and polite when needing us to cooperate. Great hearing so much about the history of Akaroa and the surrounding area.

What an awesome time we had sailing. Was magical. Heaps of dolphins. Didn't get the afternoon tea because of covid, but we bought a nice little sparling Sav, and beer, was even better.
Very interesting local history information.
Totally recommend.

Fantastic 3.5 hours sailing with Roy and his crew on the Fox II. We saw so many Hectors dolphins, fur seals, birds and even a little Blue penguin. Roy is so knowledgeable and shared so much local knowledge and history with us. This day is going to live long in our memories. Totally recommend it.

We bought this adventure on a GrabOne voucher in a “shall we?” moment and my goodness best decision ever! From the time we departed to the time we returned we were regaled with stories about the local region and its history and we learnt so much about this wonderful part of New Zealand (and given we are kiwis, why didn’t we know this before!). The promise of seeing Hector’s Dolphins (when quite often on these excursions it never comes to pass) we were more than blown away by what we saw. This beautiful rare endangered species frolicked alongside us for a long time. It made us appreciate how lucky we are to have these amazing animals in our ecosystem and we need to do all we can to protect them. Roy, the Skipper and his team, couldn’t have been more helpful or pleasant and so knowledgeable. They were gracious hosts and the three hours on board the sailing ship flew by!

From the moment we stepped onboard, the enthusiastic Captain Roy was relaying interesting information about the Maori/Colonial history of Banks Peninsula, the wildlife and the people farming the land. We were incredibly fortunate to be onboard today and witness a myriad of Hectors Dolphins dancing and playing around the boat! Two Seals, Blue Penguins, and some Shags were also observed.
The history surrounding the age and ownership of the Fox II was fascinating and at one time included our own famous explorer, Sir Peter Blake.
Conservationists- this is the only tour to take in Akaroa as this vessel only consumes 8 litres of fuel per hour, as opposed to other more modern boats in the harbour which guzzle 100 litres per engine per hour!!!
Would wholeheartedly recommend this tour as a must see!

Thank you for your nice review. It’s been a great summer of dolphins this season. We have seen many new calves and the dolphins are having a great time on warmer days when they don’t eat so much. Thanks for coming out on the Fox 2 and for sharing your experience on here. Please come again. It’s a unique time now when we have NZ all to ourselves, Make the most of it.
