An excellent adventure
Nov 2020 • Business
From booking through to arriving back on shore this was an excellent company to work with and they delivered a top notch experience. Hazel was our guide and was exceedingly good - she was knowledgeable, friendly and got on well with our group.
There is a lot to see and we were lucky to have calm water.
Highly recommend

Fun waters for the whole family.
Oct 2020
We went kayaking with our guide Nick and it was a fantastic experience! We had double kayaks with our 11 and 13-year old kids. The winds were a bit strong, so we delayed for a bit, but Nick was very accomodating. When we started kayaking the water was still a bit choppy, but safe and it make it for a fun experience! Kids loved the trip and we shared lots of laughs and chats with Nick. Thank you!

The best time
Feb 2020
We started off and it was cold and damp. However our guide Jake was amazing and I called him google as he knew everything there was to know about where we and what we were doing. It was my 1st time in a kayak. I was with my husband and we really did have the best time.

Kayaking with Jake is the best way to discover beautiful Akaroa Bay!
Feb 2020
Our guide Jake made the day special. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about sea life, kayaking and New Zealand, and he ensured all of us were safe and able to enjoy all the bay had to offer. He was also sensitive to preserving the peace and well-being of the animals and environment. The group was small (four plus Jake). The two person kayaks were very stable, and included foot pedals for steering and a skirt around the cockpits that helped keep us dry. We saw Hector dolphins (from a non-threatening distance), tasted seaweed (actually delicious), held strange sea creatures and learned a great deal about the bay and New Zealand animal and plant life. And we had a lot of fun! Thank you Jake for a fantastic day!!

Beautiful day with Jake
Jake was friendly, conscientious and professional. He took care of our group of three couples with great care. His knowledge of biology and geology were second to none. His kayaking skills were also superior.

We had a great time and we even got him to laugh along with us. Highly recommend this private excursion and Jake as your guide.

Great kayaking experience
Mar 2020 • Couples
We had the absolute pleasure of having Jake as our tour guide. He explained to us all the safety instructions and we practiced them first so when we reached water we felt safe and secure. The experience was amazing, he is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he is doing. He showed us a lot of bird and marine life and also covered interesting historical facts about Akaroa and Banks Peninsula. The cookie was a really nice touch and a good energiser.

Intimate and laid back
Feb 2020
Before this activity, my partner and I had virtually no experience with kayaks (and I also have an irrational fear of octopods hiding in seaweed, which: irrelevant), but our guide, Joey, was both professional and personable, so we were able to relax very quickly.

The summer day we did this was remarkably similar to a winter's morning, but the rowing kept us warm and distracted. The pace and distance were totally manageable for us, and there was always something to look and marvel at. I really enjoyed the sea caves (the tide prevented us from getting too close, unfortunately) and seeing terns diving into the water. My partner enjoyed all the views, plus the fact that neither of us capsized.

Joey (an American) surprised me (an actual Cantabrian), with his wealth of knowledge of Akaroa harbour: geology, ornithology, Maori history, European history, local salmon farm mishaps, where to get decent fish and chips, I could go on. Whatever topic I brought up, he always had some facts or stories to share about them.

We didn't see Hector's dolphins on our particular journey, but we are both still so pleased we had this experience. I already had many happy memories of Akaroa from my childhood, but seeing it from on the water itself has given me a more intimate appreciation for the entire harbour.
