- andrewdY1217PS0 contributionsA great experienceWe really enjoyed our sea kayak tour (11.30 tour). Our guide, Lee, was knowledgeable, experienced, and safe, but also fun and unobtrusive. As novices in our 50's and 60's we felt very comfortable being out on the water with Lee.Written 12 March 2024
- Della N0 contributionsGuides were fantasticSean and Lucia the guides were fantastic. Knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Paddle was pretty easy as we kept mostly close to shore and conditions were pretty good. Life jackets and kayaks looked a little worn but everything worked and were comfortable. Originally booked for the more expensive sunrise paddle but offered afternoon tour due to weather. Still waiting for reply or refund for difference, communication gone silent so…🙅♀️Written 7 March 2024

- JWest030 contributionsKayaking, dolphins and knowledgeable guidesHad a fantastic time on my tour of Akaroa Harbour and was so excited to see the Hector's dolphins! My guide Jon was incredibly knowledgeable about the local area including the history, both Maori and European, and the plants and animals. He kept up morale during some very windy paddling as well. Thanks for a memorable afternoon!Written 26 January 2024

- jemdru0 contributionsBrilliant kayaking experience !!Today on Akaroa waters was a fabulous experience with guide John. He got us on to the water with a minimum of fuss. The weather (high tide, low wind, moderate temperature) was in our favour. With informative commentary, He took us to the sea mouth of the bay via sea cave and an “escort “ from some playful and rare (for the planet) Hector dolphins. Brilliant !!Written 15 January 2024
- Sightsee547466158260 contributionsFantasticalThe guided tour was great fun. John our guide put us at ease straight away. Saw numerous sea birds but the icing on the cake, the hector dolphins. Would highly recommend, a great way to spend the morning.Written 15 January 2024

- jacquig8460 contributionsPaddling good fun!Our guides John and Lee made the event fun and interesting with their humour, local knowledge and general banter, particularly for a novice kayaker. Paddling into the head wind was a great challenge; however, we were congratulated on our efforts by Lee and John who were both encouraging and reassuring. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this event, despite the fact that the dolphins 🐬 weren’t playing the game.Written 12 January 2024

- Anelise P0 contributionsLovely experience :)Our guide Lucia, in addition to her excellent skills on guiding us in this experience, she’s also loved by the Hector dolphins! 😄 We had a lovely, relaxed and pleasant morning and Lucia was also making sure that we were safe while paddling. Great experience and a wonderful start of the new year! Thank you 🙏Written 31 December 2023
- Dreamer612680958470 contributionsGreat easy trip to do!The trip was very fun! Lee and Lucia were great guides and made the kayaking very easy and enjoyable. Akaroa is a really cool place to visit, but a visit isn’t complete without seeing the sea life up close. Plus it’s nice to be on the cool water during a hot day.Written 31 December 2023
- N6176VAkatieh0 contributionsFriendly staff, no animals and lots of jet skis and wind in the afternoon! We had a very nice paddle on a sunny day! It was windy which limited our trip, and there were a lot of other boats/jet skis on the water. We didn’t see any dolphins/penguins/seals. Overall our guide was friendly and the boats/gear great. It is less of a wildlife tour than I would have expected based on the reviews, but that might have just been the conditions of our day. If you want to see the penguins it does look like there are other tours that likely have a higher chance of seeing them.Written 30 December 2023

Spendt a few hours ind what they call a wildlife reserve and a lot of nice pictures of dolphines and other stuff. there is not a chance in hell to see dolphines when a lot of people are cruising around on waterski and other boats but we was told this after and hour on the water by a guide(Jake)from usa there was only concentrating his time on the one couple from usa and leaving the rest of us far behind and not paying any attention to anything, Sooooo disapointing and only leaving os whith a lot of mosqito bites as a memory. If u want wildlife go on the Akarora dolphin cruise they deliver

Hi, this tour was one of our guides favourite of the season so far, your group had an amazing experience with a school of sharks and sting ray sightings! The video of this experience is one of our most viewed posts on social media so I find this unbelievable and very disappointing that you did not appreciate what you experienced.. Our area is a marine reserve. There are many species of birds and mammals and every day is different which makes our trips so popular as you can see from our other reviews. Hector dolphin sightings are a blessing not a right, we see them often but no one can guaranty wildlife sightings, you get what you get on the day and 99% of our guests appreciate this. Perhaps you were expecting a Seaworld type experience, if you want animals to appear on a schedule, or be tracked or confined for the tourists benefit this was not the tour for you. I suggest you research your operators in the future as we promote wildlife living in its natural habitat and we do our best to not interfere with the natural eco systems in any way.shape or form. Our guide Jake is the best in the business and it seems you did not want to engage with him through out the tour as he was sharing information about geology, flora and fauna. You are actually the only people in the history of our business to have a negative opinion about him, I see other activities have been victims to unfair reviews from you also.. I have sent you the videos, and photos of the sharks swimming under your kayak, photos of you holding a sea star the guide found for you, and also pics of you kayaking along side some beautiful geological features. It is a real shame you did not appreciate the beauty of the reserve and the special experience you had

Great experience. We called up a bit last minute and Allie (who is a legend and tales will be told of her greatness long after she is gone) was able to get us in even though they were fully booked. James (whose wit is surpassed only by his glorious thighs) took us out for a sunrise kayak and we all had a great time even though we didn't see any seals or dolphins. Pretty sure the motorboats and jetskis kept them away. They even had a tandem kayak that fit my 192 cm frame. Definitely go, Akaroa is gorgeous on the water, the equipment was excellent, and the staff are fantastic.

What an amazing thing to do, both of us loved every minute of this trip.
Hazel was an absolute legend and had heaps of local knowledge as we paddled about and also gave us a few ideas of things to do for the rest of our stay in Akaroa.
Hazel was so calm and confident on the water that you feel safe the whole time, we loved exploring on of the caves, such a surreal experience that's impossible to explain so you'll just have to do it yourself !!
Was also so awesome to see so many jellyfish I have never seen one before and to see one almost every 5 minutes was so cool.
10/10 would definitely do it again.
Thanks guys 😊

Took the early Akaroa sea kayaking tour as recommended by friends who saw Orcas the week before. We had a small group of 6 with 1 guide, Joey, who was excellent; very friendly, safe and giving loads of info on local wildlife and flora. We didn't see any dolphins or orcas, but had a fabulous time taking in the stunning bay. Easy level of kayaking. Would recommend to any level - early start but well worth it!

Thanks so much for the review, we are so glad you enjoyed your tour, wild life is unpredictable but that is why it is so magical when you have a sighting! Even if the wildlife is busy being wild, there is so much else to see, our guides love showing everyone around! Thanks for coming!

We had a great time. Nick and Hazel were fun very informative. The conditions were perfect. We saw lots of bird life.
I would highly recommend the early tour as it is so much more peaceful. It started getting busy and noisy with boats and wave riders as we were ending our tour
Thank you

Went on boxing day 2022. Was great to be alone on the water. The day before was so hot, but we were unlucky it was drizzly the whole way and all cloudy but even so we had a great time. The info we got from James was just the right intensity of info if you get what I mean. Interesting stuff, and makes you treasure the environment a bit more. We saw 3 seals, a jelly fish, some dolphins playing in the distance and lots of different birds. Think I glimpsed a penguin bobbing up. Was altogether lovely and they encourage paddlers to respect the animals and not disturb them which is great. Can't really get much more wholesome and enjoyable in the morning.

Booked this kayak trip for my Birthday. Had a fantastic sunrise kayak with Greville as our helpful and knowledgeable guide. Took in breathtaking scenery from the quiet serenity of the kayak and was fortunate enough to see a range of bird and sea life - the playful hector’s dolphins being a favourite. But all done is an environmentally friendly and respectful way for the animals and habitat. Early morning was a lovely time to go and you feel like you’ve had some good exercise by the end of it as an extra bonus. Only regret was we were at the end of our stay and didn’t have more time to combine with the e-bike mountain biking as next time we’d definitely do this as well.
Booking online was easy and communication/information beforehand was also top notch. Thoroughly recommend.

On returning to beautiful Akaroa we did the sunrise tour for a second time as we had loved it four years earlier. Were lucky to book it the day before we wanted to go. Jake the guide was excellent, great knowledge and interchange with us all. Didn't go as far up the harbour as last time but enjoyed being in the larger group. This is a very well run operation in an idealic location.Highly recommend for all ages.

We had a fantastic, relaxing trip with Jacob, our very helpful and friendly guide.
We saw lots of wildlife along the shoreline and dolphins and penguins in the sea, Jacob has extensive knowledge of the harbour and he made the trip so interesting with his commentary.
We definitely recommend this trip as a “must do” when you visit Akaroa.

We booked this trip for my wife’s birthday and it was fantastic. Greville, our guide, was fun, friendly and very professional. We were of mixed abilities and experience and he was able to tailor his explanations to each of us. The kayaks were comfortable and very stable and we felt safe and supervised at all times, whilst being free to really get in close to explore the cliffs and caves of the harbour. The highlight was the pod of Hector’s dolphins who followed us as we paddled home, trying to ride the kayaks’ bow-waves and swimming between us. In the morning sunshine and with only a gentle swell on the harbour, it really was magical. Can’t really recommend it highly enough
