We did take all the tours, bit the green line with the small car to the fisherman Bastion was the best Ine. Boat trip was also memoriable. pleas verify wher the boat is going from, we (and 8more people) did missed the departure because we went to wrong place ( all has name " Hop on Hop off"). Pleas all check which company that has most frequent departures. we had a lot of time just waiting for next bus, some busses was also full, som we had to wait upto 1 hours for yellow line.

As done previously in cities visited, to do a full circuit on one of these buses is to gain orientation of a city and represents a very worthwhile exercise.

The round trip took around three hours and, among other things, it certainly highlighted enormous gaps in my historical knowledge of the this city. When the audio mentioned events which occurred in the year 1000 AD I marvelled that there was human occupation here in that era. While today's city was formed in the 1870's by the merging of three settlements, I had never considered settlement in this area to have extended to periods of Ancient History.. From this meander through the city, I am now aware that there was human occupation here B.C. way, way back The Celts were mentioned in the audio and I understand the city at one stage also was occupied by the Romans.etc.

People have spoken about what they consider could be good examples of "European" cities. This idea was first mentioned to me when I first visited Madrid many years ago. Looking at the varying architectural styles of Budapest seen on this trip, this city is an excellent, and better, example. From the buildings viwed on the bus trip, it would seem that Budapest displays an elegance which modern cities and their twenty plus story skyscraper buildings don't have.

The bus trip certainly allowed me to view so much of Budapest which I could not possibly have seen even if I hired a vehicle. The accompanying audio was excellent. The tour is definitely recommended.

We bought a 3 day ticket which was ideal for our trip. The river trip is only an hour long but we went on it several times. It was particular good to visit Margaret Island which is a real treat. We went on all the different city tours and the night one was very nice. The commentary on board is informative but a bit repetitive as several tours overlap. Good value if you plan to use it as much as we did.

I reviewed all of the 'hop on hop off'' buses and came to the conclusion they're all pretty similar. They all have their benefits (they have similar routes) and they share similar faults (buses arriving/departing late, inoperative equipment, etc.). I opted for this because it seemed to be the best value - it has 6 lines and includes a 'cruise' along the Danube.

Reading the other reviews, I was confused as to why the tour emphasized looking for the 'giraffe' on their buses but there is another company with a similar sounding name and their tour buses are also coloured red with a similar design, and the only way to tell this company from the other..is this company has a giraffe as part of their design on their buses.

They advertise tickets in 24 hours periods, but you have to know that their buses start to run from 0900hrs and the last run around the route is at 1600hrs, with buses at each stop every 30mins - obviously that does depend on the time of day as the city has 'rush hour' just like other places and the 'Inner City' does get busy.

So, you don't get 24 hours of use, although you can pay extra and have the 'nightline' included which runs later, but I didn't go for this option so I can't comment on this line.

Also, the 'cruise' only sails at 1400hrs, 1500hrs and 1700hrs - you go up the Danube and turn around just before Margaret Island, then sail back down, just past your dock, when you turn back round and head back to the dock. It's supposed to be 55 minutes and although other reviewers have said it didn't last that long, it was about 50-55mins for me.

The cruise doesn't stop anywhere but it was nice to see some of the sights, from a different angle.

If you go onto this company's website, you should be able to download a copy of their different routes (and stops) and a timetable which shows what time the bus should be at each stop. That came in handy for me as I was staying next to Central Market, so I started my tour there, although the bus actually started its route much earlier.

Another point to note is that I got my ticket by email and was warned (by several emails) to have a paper copy as the company doesn't accept electronic copies of their tickets. I was slightly confused as I thought that once I showed my ticket, I'd get my 'welcome pack' (a book of discount vouchers, map, earphones and a ticket to show staff when I board buses) - it turns out the ticket I printed would be what I would use to access the buses and I had to ask for my pack when I got on my first bus.

I had already seen a lot of the sights already, so I used this as a means of getting around the city - I don't think there's enough buses if you wanted to get off at every stop, but some stops are very close together, so you could do them at the same time.

Personally, I got off at the main places and sat and viewed the others from the bus. Also, as I've said, I was staying near to Central Market so walked round there (and some of the other nearby sights) before my first bus came, to save some time.

I've also said, this service is not perfect and the 4 buses I used all had problems with the volume control on their earphone units. The commentary was far too loud, and I had to hold the earphone away from my ear. 2 of the buses were single deckers so I didn't get the chance for an elevated view of some sights but the buses were pretty much on schedule and they got me around their routes whilst giving me some historic facts at a decent price, so no grumbles!

This hop on hop off bus was an excellent way to tour the city and find out about its history. We purchased the pass that included the boat cruise. You have to take the night time cruise along the Danube. All the historical buildings are lit up, and it is truly worth double the cost of the ticket. Its a can't miss event.

I purchased the Hop On Hop Off pass online when I booked my airport transfer thinking it was the same Hop On Hop Off like other cities I have visited. Beware!! There is more than one “Hop on Hop Off” company operating here that look very similar to each other (red busses, yellow writing). I was wondering why the “City Sightseeing” busses (the other red/yellow Hop on Hop off) were so full and these ones weren’t, and at first I was happy because there was always a seat but now I know why.

First, I was on the Blue Line and wanted to transfer to the Yellow to go to the Buda side. I was told to go across to the St Stephens Basilica, where I waited about 20 minutes for the yellow line. When I got on, I was not told Yellow would terminate at stop 13 (4:45pm, the line operates until 6pm). When I asked how I could take the full yellow line the guy said go to stop 1 across the street and yellow would come in 18 minutes. Nothing came. 35 minutes later the red line came and when a few of us asked they said it should be “a few minutes”. When I said I had been waiting for 35 minutes and had been told 18 I got a shrug and “I don’t know I only know red line”. Horrible. It’s the same company!!! Four City Sightseeing busses and three Big Busses came in the time only one of ours (with the Giraffe) came and it was red. If I had been told the yellow would terminate at 13 when I got on I could have just walked to #1 as the basilica isn’t far from there and maybe saved some time. A full one hour and six minutes later the yellow bus arrived even though the timetable indicates one every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour. I understand traffic gets bad but this is unacceptable when the other companies seem to be managing just fine. When you only have so much time to visit a city the last thing you want to be doing is waiting for an hour at a time for the sightseeing bus when they are supposed to be 30min apart. I would not book with this company again!

Absolutely do not book with them. At every stop we waited an extra 15-25 minutes over the wait that was initially told to us. The bus was old, dirty, and multiple buses had not only no air conditioning (which is not a huge problem) but NO windows that open. After waiting at one stop for 45 minutes we finally got on the bus, went one stop, then the staff told us to get off the bus and load another one due to technical problems. We then waited on that bus for another 20 minutes and when we politely asked the staff if we would be leaving soon a rude staff member told us she didn’t know, the drivers were taking a smoke break, and that it was a “first world problem”. We wasted half the day waiting for these buses. We saw multiple other buses from other companies pass our stop multiples times before even ONE of the giraffe buses came. Save your money and book elsewhere!

We bought a three day ticket to tour the city. The first day we took the blue line and the yellow which were ok. The next day we took the red up to Heroes square which was fine going but we waited nearly an hour on one coming back.
Later in the day we tried to get on the yellow line but two drove straight past without stopping and we ended up walking back to our hotel. The third day we tried again for the yellow only to find there are several stops not serviced at the weekend. After walking to the next stop we waited and better waited to no avail and eventually walked over the bridge to the Buda side
During this time at least two buses from each rival operator passed us

When on the bus many of the major attractions are not directly passed, you would have to get off to view them.
The only positive was the daytime river trip which was very good.
Ultimately I would recommend booking with a different company
