- 1Muzeum Zamkowe w MalborkuStop: 3 hours - Admission includedDiscover the Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork, one of the greatest monuments in Poland and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learn about the history of the Teutonic Order and explore one of the largest gothic castle in the world. On this 5-hour tour, a qualified guide will share with you the most interesting stories relating to Malbork Castle. The tour includes sightseeing the 14th-century Palace of the Grand Master, which at one time was the residence of the so-called Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, visiting St. Mary’s Church, watching the castle’s various permanent and temporary exhibitions like collection of weaponry, armor, flags and enormous Amber Museum. In 1274, over 40 years after the Prussian conquests, the Teutonic Order started building Malbork Castle. It had gradually become the most important edifice for the Teutonic Knights – it was the headquarters of the Teutonic Master, and hence the capital of the entire Teutonic State. Malbork Castle, beautifully situated by the Nogat river, is currently considered to be the largest gothic castle in Europe and an example of the medieval defense architecture. In 1997 it was added to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list, and it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and significant monuments in Poland.Read more

Both days were memorable. Great flexibility provided in the itinerary. Gdansk & surrounds was truly beautiful and made even more memorable by Michal & team. Highly recommend booking with them.Written 27 November 2023

- Man_from_BCN0 contributionsFrombork: much more than Copernicus's graveWe had a wonderful day trip from Gdansk visiting the lovely town of Frombork, by the Vistula Lagoon. Frombork's Cathedral Hill is an extraordinary example of Gothic architecture, and its cathedral, a true gem, the highlight being, of course, Copernicus's grave, which was not identified until 2008 thanks to DNA analysis. Our guide picked us up in front of our apartment right on time and provided us with an amazing amount of interesting information about Frombork, Copernicus, the Vistula Lagoon and Polish history from the Middle Ages to the past 40 years. He never sounded bookish nor tired: all the information was relevant, sounded fresh and was quite interesting. Plus, we had a wonderful (and huge) traditional Polish lunch at Restauracja Akcent. Highly recommended both for Frombork itself (which never gets the crowds you see in places like Malbork) and for the guide.Written 11 September 2023
- 107karing0 contributionsA good time!Mirek was very nice and knew a lot about everything. It was an interesting tour over three cities. The cities were different compared to each other which gave the whole trip a nice touch. We now know everything about shipyards! The only thing that was a little bit less great, is the traffic situation. Lots of cars everywhere and we had to wait in lines more than once.Written 18 August 2023
- Escape4226110 contributionsFive stars for the guide, two for the boatTo do positives and negatives - the positives first - the way the boat is carried is very unusual and very interesting so it is definitely something worth seeing and we are very glad that we did. Unless you were travelling in your own car it would be very difficult to get to on your own from Gdansk, so if you want to see it - take the tour. Scenery is lovely too. As everyone says, Michael is a great guide - lovely man and very interesting to talk to. As for the negatives - the boat was crowded. We were lucky to be seated near to the openings for the exit but there was a lot of jostling for position as people came to look out/take photos etc. It was therefore disappointing and frustrating to see that the few boats we passed going in the other direction all had roof decks with people sitting on them enjoying all round views of the countryside. I don't know whether this tour always uses the same boat or whether it is luck of the draw on the day. We were lucky with the weather and obviously you wouldn't want to be sitting outside in the rain. Three stars is an average - we would give Michael five stars but for the cost of the trip I think it would be nice to have a good views consistently without having to keep giving up your seat to let others have a look outside. Don't like to sound churlish and wouldn't even have thought of saying all this if we hadn't seem other boats where people seemed to be having a more relaxing viewing experience. This is the sort of niggle you forget in time but we will remember fondly our time with Michael and his sharing of his insightful thoughts on his country's history and culture. Loved Gdansk and hope to come back and would love to do other tours with Michael as our guide.Written 11 August 2023

- 907olao0 contributionsGreat guided tour to StutthofThis was a great trip with a guide with deep knowledge and a very good and accurate way of telling the stories abaut Stutthof from the start to the end. Mike (our Guide) told the whole story, the awful handling of the people, how the camp was runned, and the strategies for survival was for the people in Stutthof. It is highly rekommended to do this tour for adults and teens.Written 17 July 2023
- XFNutty0 contributionsA really lovely day outWe were picked up promptly by our driver Michael who then drove us to the canal boat for our tour. I have to give him a special thanks as he was so friendly telling us all about the surrounding land and the history and the economy of it. He also was telling us about an area close to the hotel we would never have found out about if it wasn’t for him! The canal tour was absolutely lovely and a very chilled experience pottering down the canal and moving through the pulley systems making it up. One of the best bits was that we were allowed to go out onto the side of the “carriage” on the last pulley to get a better look and to take photos. The whole experience took about 3-4 hours. Michael said that it’s normally shorter but we got lucky as the weather had been so good today that we got to do the whole length. The one very small downside is that the commentary wasn’t in English, but we were the only English people on there and we shouldn’t expect to be catered for just because we’re English. If you speak Polish or German you should be fine. Michael did a good job of filling in all the gaps for us on the way there so we didn’t feel like we missed out. We then had a short stop off in the town of Elbląg for a very late lunch where we were lucky enough to be there for a dragon boat racing festival. Unfortunately I think all the racing had finished but there was still a lively buzz around the place. A really lovely day out and a lovely chilled experience.Written 25 June 2023
- Weimarpatk530 contributionsAn unforgetable day on the Elblag canalit was a grey, cold and rainy day. My driver and I arrived vefore a tour bus and were treated to cake, tea and coffee. How lovely of the crew!. The tour is about an engineering miracle. in waterand over dry lansd with the same boat. I keave it for you tosee how that is possible! A group of lovely school children were on the boat and talked to me rhrough google transkate. Theywere very sweet, wrll behaved and adorable. .My driver and I went to the town of Elblag for coffee and the beloved cake of Pope John Paiul II. I could visit the church and. walk atound. i was also given useful tips n what to do back in Gdansk. It was an unforgetable day despite miserable weather. Ronél Smit JohannesburgWritten 16 May 2023
- Z8869YTbonnier0 contributionsFive stars and one star averages three. This is both a 5 star and a one star review, averaging three. 5 stars: The fee includes hotel pick up. The “driver” was actually a highly experienced, knowledgeable, and gracious licensed tour guide named Mirek. He had been a guide under in both communist and democratic times, having lived half his life in both. He and I both adored the Gdańsk shipyard where the Solidarity movement started so he showed me a few things I hadn’t seen there since we had time. The drive to Elblag was a little over an hour each way and those two hours spent with Mirek were two of my entire trips’ favorite. While driving Mirek spoke from the heart on a wide range of topics. Mirek leads many other tours, he’s not a “driver”. So my expectations were wildly exceeded for the pick up and delivery. 1Star: The Elblag tour itself. It was not in English. I went to learn about the engineering and the man who built it, not just a view of an endless canal.. It was standing room only-think crowded bus… I asked the captain (some other passengers translated) to get off and the captain said it was not possible so I was stuck for 3 hours. The tour operator from Gdańsk said he could arrange a pick up for me despite the captain saying no (I had a moment of phone reception), and I could call Mirek. I was even willing to walk back… At that point he crew decided to let me sit on the bow so then I could see the views. Beautiful scenery from there. Really lovely but boring. 3 hours was way too long but from the bow it was pleasant. I didn’t want to spend a precious day on a boat ride. I was there to deepen my understanding of the canal system and hopefully see some birds (no luck). Lesson learned: make sure you are on one of the boats with roof top seating (some have that). Don’t go on a Polish holiday when everyone wants to take their kids on a boat ride. Know you won’t have reception making calling for a pick up difficult. Think twice about going if the weather isn’t excellent. Confirm that your boat captain will do the tour in English. If you can, ask for Mirek to drive you, without him, I would have asked for a refund. Because of Mirek, and being allowed to sit on the bow, it was a nice day.Written 13 May 2023

We booked a private tour guide at the desk - a bit pricier, but for this enormous undertaking, well worth it. Our guide arrived for us within ten mimutes. She took us through the countless floors, wings, rooms and surrounds - contstantly filling us in... a rermarkable 3-hour experience; became utterly lost in the wonderful history of it all. Recommend very highly indeed!

First of all, I rarely write a bad review.....I chose this tour after reading the 8 other 5-star reviews. I paid $270 USD for myself, husband and son to take this tour. I thought it was a little pricey, but after reading the reviews, decided to go forward with the purchase. It was my understanding that we would have a PRIVATE tour with an English-speaking driver. Our driver was prompt and picked us up at our hotel in Sopot. He spoke NO English (I paid for an English tour). And - he was just a taxi driver. We had another tour in Krakow - also private driver - who picked us up in a nice, comfortable car and spoke English, so we were already disappointed. He took his time to the castle (as we figured out later, he was just trying to kill time) and dropped us off at the castle and pushed us over to a tour guide who was holding up a sign that said "English speaking - if you want a Private tour, go inside). We tried to tell the driver we paid for a private tour, but didn't get anywhere because he spoke no English. He just said - "you go with woman" and pointed to the guide. So, we went inside and tried to explain to the service counter that we already paid for a private tour and showed her our tickets. She said our tickets were not for a private tour and if we wanted that, we'd have to stand in a very long line and pay 50PLN more for each person!!! I tried calling the tour operator and nobody answered. So we sucked it up and joined the "English" speaking tour, which included a total of 30 people. The tour was so large, we could only hear about half of what she was saying as there were so many other tour groups around at the same time and it was noisy. It was impossible to ask questions as the tour guide just kept moving quickly along. The tour was a total of 2 1/2 hours, only about less than 1/2 of it we heard. Even though we didn't know what we were getting a tour of completely, the castle and the grounds were beautiful. After the tour, I text the driver and he arrived within 10 minutes to pick us up and hauled butt back to our hotel. If we had to do it again, I would have saved a ton of money and we would have spent the $15 USD for the exact same tour and taken the train for practically nothing. Overall, this tour was WAY overrated and overpriced for what we received. Super disappointing. It was NOT a private tour at all and the driver was completely impossible to communicate with. Two thumbs DOWN!!!

We are sorry to hear about such an situation. Unfortunately, in all descriptions of this trip we do not mention anything about the driver speaking English. Usually YES but somethimes when we are extremly busy we book German or Russian speaking driver. During the summer season we use regular castle guides to be able to provide customers with acheaper price. The price is really competitive. Groups are not big because tickets number are limited. Anyway it`s high season and there is planty people in main tourist attractions (especially in UNESCO Heritage). It's a pity you did not call us before writing review. Viator always gives our customers a mobile phone, but there is no sign that you have called. Customer service is the most important thing for us, so we can offer a different trip with a special discount for you. Contact us and we will present a different offer adjust to your needs.
Maybe it will help erase the bad impression.

We wanted to go see some of the old Teutonic Knight Castles south of Gdansk. We do not speak any Polish. Michal put together a custom van tour for us and it turn out even better than we had expected. The van was comfortable and the fact that we don't speak Polish was absolutely no problem. We got to see three castles. Tours of two of the castles interiors were included in the price. We were picked up promptly at our hotel and despite the fact that we ran a little over at Malbork, never felt rushed to get back. When we got back we were dropped off at our Hotel. The tour was a great value and I would highly recommend Tours in Gdansk to anyone wishing to tour the area.

Seldom I get to meet someone who is soulfully connected to their community, knows its history, understands its culture, has insights into its present conditions and actively cares for its harmonious and beneficial future. This is the kind of person I experience the operator of this tour to be, and this in itself was an inspiring experience in itself - deserving the 5 star review.
As for the castle - it is amazing! The enormity of it, as well as the preservation state is impressive. Even though not built by the Poles, it is a significant element of the complex Polish culture, giving particular insight into the nature of relation with their western neighbours, the Germans.
On the first glance, it is a symbol of pride, of defeating a seemingly superior yet oppressive force and a landmark of self-confidence and hope - much needed by the Polish people.
But looking even deeper I hope it could become an inspiration for a new era of the Polish-German relationship - where these two nations could combine their complimentary qualities, letting go of the past grievances - taking German focus and Polish spirit to create something beauty of which will stand the test of time even more than the Malbork Castle.
As you can see, I did find aunexpected value in the experience and likewise invite those of you reading it not only to enjoy this tour, but to always look beyond the obvious :)
