      Great ride!
We weren’t sure about going out in the rain, but it was our only opportunity to take our ride so we put our rain coats on and set off on our ride. We are so happy we did. The rain cleared and we had a great ride. Past orchards one sheep, cows and even a free range chicken farm. Beautiful views and plenty of placed to stop and eat. We took e-bikes but hard tails would be fine too. Lots of down hill coasting! Lots of nice views. The too young women who got us set up and took us to the trail head were great!

      Kind and Thoughtful Bike Tours
Nelson Cycle Hire did an excellent job of planning a two-day excursion for us (a pair of 70 years old Americans). They fully out-fitted us, and provided clear directions for a ride from Nelson to Kaiteriteri. They reserved an beautiful Bed and Breakfast for us at the midpoint of our trip and recommended more than a dozen attractions (e.g. wineries, art galleries, and coffee spots) accessible from the trails.we whole-heartedly recommend them to bicycle travelers.

Cycle Nelson taste trail straight from airport
So convenient to be able to hire a bike from airport, and get straight onto cycle trail! Bikes came with locks, pump, lock and repair kit. Staff very helpful - making sure our bikes were set up properly, offering suggestions on where to cycle- even checking if cafes were open over Easter weekend. You can leave stuff to pick up later. We cycled to Wakefield- about 3 hrs, 50 km there and back. Easy flat riding. Highly recommend pies at The Bakery, Wakefield!

You'll never have a better day out!
We flew in at 9:30, walked over to the Nelson Cycle Hire booth without a booking (probably not recommended), locked our luggage there, and 15 minutes later were on bikes heading west to a perfect day on the Great Taste Trail. Stops for fresh fruit ice creams, Slovenian spiced coffees, lunch at Mapua Wharf, and back for a walk on Rabbit Island Beach, drinks at The Honest Lawyer, more drinks and dinner, and back to leave our bikes then cab into town. We've cycled many places around NZ and the world, and thanks to Nelson Cycles this was one of the best days ever and certainly the easiest and most user-friendly. MTBs slightly more upright configured (I was initially a bit disdainful but actually they were perfect and extremely comfortable for the Great Taste Trail, which is about enjoying everything Nelson has to offer not just the biking itself). We can't speak highly enough about this as a Great Day Out, thank you Nelson Cycles. Extremely highly recommended!!

Convenient and quality bike rental for the Great Taste Trail
Excellent ebikes and service for the Great Taste Trail. Nelson Cycle Hire is located at the Nelson airport. They provide parking and orientation, then the bike trail is 100 meters away.

      Great experience
The ladies at Nelson Cycle were great to work with! I actually booked an incorrect date by mistake and when we arrived the ladies said no worries and got us set up with our bikes without hesitation. The provided a great orientation about ride options and gave us a map and sent us on our way. The cycling is great and ride options are abundant. I would definitely recommend this company.

A brilliant day out, two wheels, fresh air!
This was a whole day self guided e-bike tour. We started at the airport and JR drove us to Spooners Tunnel, guiding us through it to start our trip, then we were on our own, at our own pace. We loved it resorting to e-power only occasionally. It was slightly disconcerting to occasionally have to cross the main highway but the tour notes did alert us of the best place to cross. We stopped at villages en route for snacks and lunch and sightseeing, as the fancy took us. Towards the end of the afternoon we could feel the pressure in our bottoms but luckily came across a bar serving pizza so had a long early supper break to recover before the last leg back to the airport. Highly recommended

      Coastal bike ride
After a soggy start to the day, the sun soon came out and we enjoyed our cycle ride to Mapua from Nelson airport. It was our first time on e-bikes but Hazel was very reassuring to two oldies. The signposting could be a little better as we took a wrong turning and ended up in Saxton Fields! After a diversion through Richmond we got back on the trail. The scenery and birdlife were wonderful. There are not many food Stops so our fruit came in handy. We did not stop for a swim on Rabbit Island as we We were unsure of the distance left to travel. We will know for next time. A great day out.

      Easy hire process
We hired an e-bike and a child bike trailer for a half day. It was an easy hire process and probably took about 30min from when we arrived until when we were on the road. Staff member Hazel was friendly and helpful. The trailer worked really well for two small kids and was easy biking. Unfortunately the bike seat height wasn't easily adjusted (as it had been tightened with a spanner/allen key rather than using the quick release) which was a little uncomfortable but we managed. We did 50km in the day from the airport to Mapua and back, and ran out of battery at about 47km so just factor that in with your distances (although remember we were towing kids in a trailer and were into a head wind on the way home). There is no parking on site for your vehicle, but you can park it in the carpark just outside the airport gates which is just a 5-10 min walk away. They will give you a parking card.

One stop shop for bikes in Nelson
If you already know that Nelson is a spectacular city, have you tried it on bikes? Well, we didn't know how fabulous the city was going to be, but getting our butts on bikes sure convinced us it was. Nelson Cycle Hire was a great experience - from booking to communications to the quality of the bikes. Hazel was a great help to us in coordinating pick up/drop off and guiding us to our destinations on the Great Taste Trail(which you HAVE to check out). We opted for e-bikes and were not disappointed with our choice to get that extra oomph to our peddling for the day. Conveniently located near the airport, it's perfect if you are flying into the city. It may feel a bit strange when you are looking for the location, but it is ultimately convenient to the bike paths, and makes perfect sense if you are choosing bikes as your mode of transportation. Highly recommended!!

      Spooner’s Tunnel ride
A fantastic experience from start to finish! Booking was easy, good communication, a professional and well organised team. Bikes were well maintained. We got an excellent briefing and all the bike equipment we needed was supplied. JR shared lots of interesting information on the trip out to the tunnel as well as safety points for our return. He rode through the tunnel with us, before setting us off on our self guided ride. We really enjoyed our Spooner’s Tunnel experience thanks for Nelson Cycle Tours!

      Excellent adventure
We had an absolutely great time with Nelson Cycle tour they even came out and got my wife and I with our granddaughters early so our daughter and husband could carry on. The directions were very clear and they found their way to a number of locations. By all reports you’d need to have a level of fitness as Nelson side is flat but mostly gravel and Mapua on to Moutere is up hill. In saying that the bikes batteries were largely unused so perhaps on turbo you wouldn’t even notice the hills. Excellent adventure had by all!

Cycling the Great Taste Trail on Ebikes
We spent two days cycling the Great Taste trail using ebike and shuttle services provided by Nelson Cycle Hire. They tailored the experience for us allowing us to bike from Tapawera to Nelson on Day 1 and Nelson to Motueka on Day 2. We biked around 70 km per day which we find to be the perfect distance on ebikes. The ebikes were of a very high standard, the shuttles were on time and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend the Great Taste trail as an ebike cycling experience and using Nelson Cycle Hire as your cycle and shuttle provider.

I was doing a course in Nelson and had a free weekend, so decided at the last minute to go for a ride. Tracey was very friendly and super helpful, and I even rode an electric bike for the first time… such fun! They are perfectly positioned for a lovely day ride to and from Mapua via Rabbit Island. The bike was very nice to ride and in great condition.

We had such a fabulous day riding our e-bikes. The pick up was a convenient location next to the airport and our equipment was all great. Everyone was super helpful at Nelson Cycle and on time for our pick up at Matua. Highly recommend this company!
