Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our group of 4 had a very pleasant and interesting couple of hours, when we were shown around Nelson by James.
These tours are always value for money, as this one was. We only had the one day to see what we could, and were shown many different aspects of the city-specialty shops, the cathedral, art gallery, and river.
Many thanks James for all the effort you put in.

This was an enjoyable and interesting introduction to the main sights of central Nelson. James was informative, knowledgeable and friendly, clearly interested in the city and happy to answer questions. The pace of our walking tour was sensible, without being tiring, enabling us to cover plenty of ground.

There were just two of us for James’ walking tour which meant we enjoyed a very personal tour from the very personable James – who is also a part time skipper on the local ferry. Despite not being a local, James’s passion and knowledge for, and about, Nelson shone through. James had many stories and interesting facts to impart and gave us a taste of other things to see and do in the town. Although the tour was billed for 2 hours, we so enjoyed the conversation that it was closer to three hours (thanks James).

It's awesome to hear that you had such a great time on the tour. As a Nelson resident it's a privilege to provide a relaxed tour with lots of personal interaction. Hope to see you again on your next visit. J

Today Russell and I made the magnificent decision to do the Sunny Nelson Walking Tour.
It was just terrific. James was our guide and seriously he is a 10/10 guide. James has an incredibly generous and happy personality, combined with an absolutely professional attitude towards making the walking tour an excellent experience.
James bought Nelson to life for us. We had spent the previous day in the city, looking around but on reflection, we missed everything.
During our walking tour with James, we enjoyed him bringing to life early Nelson history, the art and cultural life of the city, as well as learning about all sorts of interesting facts and stories.
We seriously recommend this tour if you are spending some time in Nelson. It is well worth every cent.
Thank you James. Your Sunny (… not so sunny ☔first up) Walking Tour of Nelson was just terrific.

Although I had already been in Nelosn for a few days I still learnt a lot on this walking tour. James was very informative, pointing out things I would certainly have missed if strolling around on my own. The walk was at an easy pace and included a lot of detail about history, important facts, plants and animals, local art and much more. I would really recommend it.

We had a very interesting and enjoyable walking tour through Nelson with (local) guide James. James showed us lots of interesting places and things that we would have never found by ourselves. James knew much about the city, its history and people and told us interesting stories. We learned way more about the city than expected. Now we know that the one ring from the Lord of the Rings was designed by a Nelsonian. That is just one example.
If you are interested in knowing more about Nelson, I definitely recommend this tour.

For a small cost, we got so much out of our visit to Nelson. We were visiting from our cruise ship and when we returned and shared our day with others, it became obvious that we had seen and learned much more about this laidback town than others. For example, the story behind the goldsmith and the glass blower would have been totally missed.
James’ obvious knowledge and enthusiasm really made the difference between a tour and an experience

Thank you Roger and Margaret - I thoroughly enjoyed showing you around Nelson - great to highlight all the extra's that aren't obvious if you walk around on your own. Let us know if you're back in Nelson another time. James.

We were lucky enough to be the only two people on the tour so we got a private walking tour with James. We really enjoyed hearing about Nelson’s past and visiting the historical sights. We didn’t have much time in Nelson so this tour was the best way to learn about the city and get some steps too. James was great!
