- RickJ51750 contributionsForest, mountains, lakesWe had a most pleasant day touring Nelson Lakes N.P. with our guide Sonya from Wine Art Wilderness. She picked us up at our accommodation in a fine Mercedes and drove down to the park. The visit started a morning walk that focused on the nature recovery section near Lake Rotiti where efforts to eliminate predators are ongoing to help restore the beech forest. Educational with spectacular scenery all through the day. A very good lunch is included in the trip. Great fun.Written 9 April 2024
- H5185HPjohnk0 contributionsA golden day exploring the Golden Bay with Sonia!Sonia, our guide for the day, did an excellent job of showing us all that the Golden Bay area has to offer. She arranged tea and coffee on the beach and took us on several wonderful park walks. Her choice of a restaurant for lunch was ideal. Our afternoon was spent on a relaxing stroll to PuPu springs as well as other short trecks. On the return trip to Nelson, we stopped for ice cream and fruit as well as a fun cheese specialty shop where my wife and I stocked up on the local favorites to enjoy later on our New Zealand adventure. In short, Sonia went above and beyond to ensure that our day exploring the region was a successful one.Written 14 February 2024
- Roving683565870440 contributionsFantastic day outThis was our second day out with the same tour company and Lucy was our guide. The same very high standard applied. This is a great luxury tour. Lucy, our guide was exceptional once again. She was able to impart so much information about the region, all the plants and incredible history. Lucy provided us with everything from sun lotion and hiking poles to a delicious lunch. We had some rain but the tour was easily adapted for the weather and a few things were even added in to maximise the experience for us. Lucy also gave us fantastic suggestions about other things to see and do while in Nelson. Again, nothing was too much trouble to ensure we had a great time and it was so enjoyable. Lucy really loves her job and this is very apparent. As Aucklanders we felt that we really got to know another part of New Zealand. This is an excellent way to do it. Highly recommended.Written 16 October 2023

- lisakS4035OP0 contributionsAwesome Art in NelsonMy husband and I took two tours with Zane and Sonya of Wine Art Wilderness Tours, a kayak/hike in the Abel Tasman and a art and wine tour in and around Nelson. I am reviewing the art/wine tour as my husband has already reviewed our day in Abel Tasman National Park. While hiking with Zane, we chatted about our interests, especially in art, as I'm a jewelry artist myself. Zane was able to organize a visit to a phenomenal jewelry artist living in Nelson, as part of our art/wine tour. The artist welcomed us into her home studio and spent over an hour discussing her work with me. Her talent, generosity and enthusiasm blew me away. This was honestly the highlight of my trip to New Zealand and an experience I will treasure always. Thank you, Zane. Sonya was our guide for the art/wine tour and shared several favorite galleries with us. She was so patient while I asked a lot of questions. She also was very knowledgeable about wine production which made the walking tour of the Flaxmore Winery very informative. Wine Art Wilderness Tours is the group to use when visiting the Nelson area! Zane and Sonya are fun and easy to be with, and really know the people and places to visit. I will recommend them to any friends and family that plan on seeing New Zealand.Written 12 April 2023

And even better, we had an amazing day learning about Nelson, visiting various sites and had a wonderful picnic lunch at Rabbit Island. Would highly recommend! - 20evang0 contributionsLucy Is A Great Tour Guide! We booked a tour guide from this company to use for a few days in the Nelson area and we were very lucky to have Lucy as our guide. Lucy is a local who knows the area well and is well known by everyone. She asked us what we were interested in seeing/doing and built our days of tour based on what we told her. She was spot on with every place she rooms us to and everyone she took us to meet. We spent some time off the beaten trail seeing things that most people don’t normally see. From beach to shopping to art galleries to hikes pubs and wineries, we got a lot in. I highly recommend booking Lucy as your guideWritten 1 April 2023
- Lois D0 contributionsA perfect day on NelsonWe did the Nelson wine tour in a day. Lucy was our guide and she was wonderful. Interesting, informative, helpful and knowledgeable. We went to four boutique wineries for tastings including a delightful lunch at one overlooking the vineyards and mountains, and with some time left went for ice cream on the river. It was a perfect day. We can’t recommend this company highly enough. They were so easy to work with and created a perfect tour for us.Written 2 March 2023

- Cate W0 contributionsA stunning tour, even in rainy conditions.A stunning set of locations with a lot of variety packed in. It was a rainy day so we were all aware we weren't seeing the locations at their best but they still looked incredible. Our tour guide Lucy worked around the weather to adjust plans and make our trip as comfortable and memorable as possible. Lucy's local and national knowledge of NZ was flawless and she gave us all lots of travel ideas and advice as well as unique local insights. A really excellent day overall despite disappointing weather.Written 14 December 2022

- Sunshine598885051190 contributionsWine and Art done with styleWe did the Wine Exposed Nelson tour and Elissa was our host for the day. Elissa has a lot of local knowledge as well as wine knowledge and provided us with a fun filled day where we visited some great wineries, met with a winemaker and lunched at a gorgeous place on a wharf. There were also opportunities to take in local boutique art places and a hand blown glass boutique. Extremely satisfied and highly recommended.Written 3 October 2022
- swageeth0 contributionsAmazing experienceI did this tour with my friends over the weekend and Elissa was our host. She was very friendly and accommodating - we had such a great time. I have done several day tours in NZ and this by far the best experience we had. Totally recommend to anyone who is new to the Tasman region as Elissa has a vast knowledge about the region and covers a lot of hidden gems during this trip. Also, Zane was pretty easy to communicate and organised the trip for us last minute.Written 22 January 2022
- W7357XPannes0 contributionsThe Best Way To Visit Nelson Vineyards…As a group of four wine loving friends visiting Nelson, we decided the best way to enjoy the local vineyards and sites was with a tour guide. Elissa was fabulous from the moment she picked us up…got an idea of the wines we enjoy, pushed us to try something different , chose a fabulous place for lunch 🤪 and paced our day so that we enjoyed every minute of it. We can’t recommend her enough… it’s so much easier than trying to “do your own thing”….Written 22 September 2021

This tour company is charging over $300 us dollars for another company's $54 dollar tour.
For that 250 dollars you get a tour guide for the day, a ride to and from Nelson, and a standard box lunch. This is not a good value, particularly in New Zealand. A guide is not needed for the walk. It is very well marked. There are inexpensive buses to and from Nelson or you can take a taxi. I do not recommend this tour, and I feel taken advantage of as a tourist. Go with Abel Tasman Sea Shuttles directly and save yourself hundreds of dollars.

Good morning, thank you for your review and I'm sorry you didn't see the value in this tour.
To clarify your comments: there are no operators who offer a $54 tour, just the boat rides alone are well over $100, a taxi from Nelson to Kaiteriteri is $180 each way (it's a 1 hour drive). The lunch gets specific mention in several of our reviews due to its quality and flavours (made with 100% local produce). Your guide picked you up from your accommodation in Nelson in an immaculately clean Mercedes, talked about the region on your way to Kaiteriteri, then showed you and gave you much information about the history of Abel Tasman National Park and its Flora & Fauna. That guide also provided and carried all your food, spring water and snacks for the day as well as brushes and towels for your use.
I'm sorry you didn't see this value and felt it necessary to give us a 1 star review rather than discussing this directly with us.

Abel Tasman is one of the best National Parks in New Zealand, not be missed and only accessible by boat / water ferry.
This trip picks you up from Hotel and arranges travel via boat to Abel Tasman, your guide will be one of the best, and take you on a wonderful stroll along the coast pointing out animal and flora points of interest.
The views are stunning and what’s better your be offered a great lunch as well .

What a great day! We were lucky to have Zane as our tour guide and he picked us up from our hotel on time and we enjoyed a scenic drive to Abel Tasman. The cruise to the beach where we started our hike was stunning. Zane's knowledge about the area provided lots of information about the flora/fauna and geology of the park. Our packed lunch was delicious and we thank Zane for a most enjoyable and memorable day.

Enjoyed every aspect of this experience in Abel Tasman National park. Extremely accommodating and friendly staff who managed to work around my delayed flight. Our guide Lucy was knowledgeable, friendly and clearly had a passion for this part of the world. The scenery was every bit as good as I had imagined and the lunch first rate.If you only a day this is the Abel Tasman tour.

My wife, son, and I found the Abel Tasman day tour to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience thanks to our guide Lucy.
She was very informative about the flora, fauna, and customized the tour based on our needs. My wife gets motion sick and she was fine because Lucy drove very slowly and carefully.
We made good time on our 12 km hike and had time to spare at the end. So Lucy took us on a side trip to a nearby stream with a waterfall and water so clear that the rocks on the stream bed looked like they were on dry land.
Lucy engaged us in pleasant and informative conversation throughout the hike. A number of hikers not with the tour asked if they could stand with us so they could listen to her.
The views along the hike were spectacular. There were many lookouts down to pristine beaches with a backdrop of green forest. We crossed many beautiful streams that drain into the sea.
I have attached a photo of a Flycatcher which we took at the end of the hike.

Having only one day in the Abel Tasman area, we were glad that we booked a tour rather than trying to navigate this area on our own; the scenery was breathtaking. Noel provided informative commentary during our drive to Abel Tasman as well as during our water taxi ride and hike back to catch the taxi (note that the hike is not for the fair of heart as you do have to keep a decent pace and some areas are a bit steep and muddy). It was also great being with him because he knew just the right pace to do the hike in order to get back to the taxi pick up on time…not so fast that we were running along the way and then ending up on the beach waiting around and not too slow that we missed the taxi. We had many spectacular views along the hike and time for pictures and we encountered a school of dolphins on our water taxi ride. Not that it was a big deal but we were not picked up in a Mercedes nor did we have a gourmet lunch as was indicated in the tour description!! However, the vehicle that was used was fine and we did have snacks, a “bag” lunch and water along the way. There were also bathrooms on the water taxi and about half way through the hike! FYI...make sure to have a jacket on hand in the event the weather is cool as riding on the taxi can be windy and chilly and it's best to stay outside if you want to take in the scenery and wildlife.
The cost of this tour seemed a bit pricey but we did get a full day of touring with a very knowledgeable guide.

Hello Chartruse we appreciate your feedback and are pleased you enjoyed the tour. The Hyundai Elite you travelled in is now rated higher for safety than the Mercedes and is the best vehicle for 2 people. The lunch provided is of all fresh local Nelson produce and is packed in containers suitable for the guide to backpack in.
