Nice kayak tour to the sea lions.
The leader/teacher was very lovely and told us a lot about the wildlife and some historical facts of kaikoura. We've seen some sea lions sleeping on the rocks close to us. I can recommend this tour!

      Not that much kayaking
It is very well organized and the crew are very nice and funny. But we didn’t do that much kayak. I hoped we would have done more and go a little further. I didn’t feel my arms at all after that session and I don’t have much muscles. It was nice to see seals, pingouin and a big bird! Thank you.

Wonderful kayak trip seeing wildlife and exploring the bay
Tour was relaxing but a good medium paddle. Best of all very organized and talented and knowledgeable guides Emma and Kylie. Our group broke into three so we could explore more areas. This is a great tour. Safety was paramount. Communication and coordination was top notch

      Really enjoyable activity in Kaikoura
Really great day kayaking with Brad and Emma. Both were very informative and engaging and made the day lots of fun. Instructions and organisation was clear and comprehensive. Definitely one to put on your “to do” list when you are in Kaikoura. We loved it!

Great half day on the water in a beautiful place
Friendly staff. Good instructions and wildlife information. The pictures they took and gave us for free were awesome. They provide everything. In addition to the kayaking equipment, they will provide footwear, waterproof jackets and seasick pills if you want them. Wildlife when we went out was only the fur seal colony and some water birds but that is just the luck on the day.

Great way to see the natural beauty of Kaikoura
Really enjoyable morning - we say seals, blue penguins and lots of sea birds. The guides were great, informative, energetic and fun.

An enjoyable and educational kayak trip
Really enjoyable trip. Our guide Brad was very knowledgeable about the local wildlife. I wasn't expecting to see so many different types of bird and learn so much about them. Of course we saw some seals close up too and a couple of penguins in the water. The kayaking part was easy because I had Brad in the back steering and paddling. Thanks for a great trip.

      Sea Kayaking was a Highlight!
This kayak trip was absolutely one of the best experiences so far on our 30 day NZ adventure. Kiley was our guide and she went over and beyond to make our sea lion watching kayak adventure amazing. She was an excellent communicator and gave us a comprehensive overview of the sea life as we paddled through the coves. Everyone on the team gets 5 stars. Highly recommend this kayak tour company!

      An unforgettable experience!!
Amazing tour, amazing wildlife and an amazing guide. We had a lovely American guide from San Fran, sorry I’ve forgotten your name as it was over a week ago, but you were extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Plenty of sea life, bird life and great vibes all round. Would recommend to anyone, regardless of age or ability. Thanks again for an amazing tour, one of our highlights for sure!

I would highly recommend this trip
Super friendly staff prepare you just right for your adventure on the water by reminding you of basic kayaking beforehand. Once you are out on the sea, it is simply wonderful and the staff were so pleasant to be with. We witnessed jellyfish, seals (one eating an octupus in front of us) and several sea birds. I would highly recommend this trip

Lovely but felt a little pricey.
We enjoyed getting out on the water - our guide Yasmin was great & we learned a lot about the fur seals. There wasn't much else to see except a few basking male fur seals sadly & we did feel the trip was a little overpriced for what it was but it was very well organised & good fun for novice kayakers. We have more experience & would have liked the option of doing something a little more challenging ideally.

      Wonderful experience
Wonderful, safe, experience. We were bought the Wildlife Tour as a Christmas present so was a little apprehensive being in our late 50’s. The guides were great really explained very well the safety briefing. The kayaks are made in New Zealand and feature rudders and you are given proper sea skirts to wear in the kayak so you don’t get very wet. Kayaks super easy to paddle with the rudder. Going to the seal colony in kayaks was great really good view and the seals totally unperturbed by you because you are in the sea. A couple even came and checked us out in our kayak. The guides made it easy to get in and out of the kayaks which was great. The only thing I would say be aware of is you have to carry the kayaks down to the water which takes four people per kayak. I find it hard carrying things due to previous spine surgery and unfortunately on this this trip two unrelated parties had this problem so Struggled to help carry the kayaks but for us that was the only issue we faced otherwise a fantastic trip, good value for money and a wonderful experience.

We had a mixed bag experience. Friendly staff but the operator prioritised their profit over offering a good experience (thus 1 star). All wildlife watching cruises were cancelled that day because of the bad weather conditions but this tour operator decided to go for kayaking anyway. When we asked if we could change it (the first time) we were told we would lose the money, they are going anyway. We decided to stick to the original date and hope for the best. I guess there was a pressure as because of the cyclone no one was going out for a few days. Most places decided it wasn't worth going today as the sea was still raugh and probably there wouldnt be any wildlife to enjoy (but not this one)

The tour itself was ok-ish, I guess. Please note this is a large group kayaking (we had 18 or 19 people in our kayaking) so you wait a long time before everyone is sorted and on the water and split into smaller groups. The equipment was good and the guides were super friendly and fun, some more knowledge than others (some just make up stuff as they go), but they definitely try to make you have fun. We went kayaking in this 'special' place bc of the weather conditions. We basically just kayaked in an open bay. My reflections is that if you are after kayaking this operator is a good choice. If you wanted to prioritise seeing wildlife i wouldn't recommend them. We saw less wildlife kayaking with them than on our walk on the beach earlier that day. This just didn't feel like a priority, the company just wanted us out there so they didn't have to cancel the tour. I am sure when weather is great this tour gets better and some people get great stories and luck with seeing wildlife. Just sharing our experience so you can consider if this is the right company in case things go wrong or weather plays on you during your visit.

Hi RH, we have already acknowledged the same feedback you posted on Google reviews and to be honest we are a bit shocked from your 2nd review 🤷‍♂️ We were in contact with you many times over the bad weather period you were in Kaikōura and we transferred you twice to try and accomodate as you we’re desperate to take part in a Marine Mammal watching activity. The 4:30pm tour you took part on had the best sea conditions of the day and all people that were on our kayak tours the 1st day back on the water after inclement weather were greatfull to be able to paddle with the Seals & Dolphins 🐬 Review by Client on the same tour KBL_travel97 - 17th Feb 2023 "Incredible tour led by knowledgeable guides. Appropriate for all skill levels. Instructions are clear and helpful. A fun way to see some wildlife." We really didn’t have to take anyone kayaking but simply made sure everyone was aware of the sea conditions and were happy to paddle. Two families with young children also kayaked this day and had an absolute blast 💥 Other operators were also running Wildlife Tours that day after assessing sea conditons. The large group you were in was split into 3 smaller groups once kayaking of 6 people max or 3 double kayaks between 3 guides. We talked to you 3 times throughout the day before your tour concerning sea conditions and where we would be kayaking. I’m not sure 🤔 what else we could have done RH to make you aware of the paddling routes on the day or what marine life to expect but everyone else that kayaked with us seemed to be very grateful for the time & effort all Staff spent putting together 3 tours with sightings of Seals & Dolphins 🐬

My partner and I did the sunset kayak experience and it was lovely. Weather was gorgeous, water was just right. For inexperienced kayakers like us, Miles and Sophie were brilliant leads and guides. They shared a lot of stories and banter about Kaikoura and the wildlife around. Saw some seals and jellyfish and a lovely view of Kaikoura.

We just had the best time ever out on the water with our guide, Kylie (hope I'm writing that right :) ) , who was the personification of loveliness!
In general staff was knowledgeable and professional and I felt more than safe out on the water with them!
Gear (kayak, paddle, water skirt, life jackets) was available and of good quality.
To top it all off, we got lucky with our wildlife encounters and did not only see the fur seals, but also a blue penguin and dolphins!
There was a lot of respect for the wildlife going around, which one can only applaud.
All in all: great experience, highly recommended!

Big thanks to Ru who took us out on a private guided kayak route. The company called us in early due to weather changes, this worked even better for us and had some incredible views. We watched seals and then went out further and experienced lots of fish coming up to the surface. He understood our level of fitness and catered the experience really well. Awesome time, highly recommended

    Great experience!
I went for the kayaking opportunity and if it happened, hoped to see wildlife. Our guide, Ru, checked with the group to make sure what we all wanted to do and gave us the opportunity to paddle in the deeper water and the swells and ensured we were all safe. We happened to see dolphins which all of us including Ru enjoyed and were surprised to see. A couple of seals came by in the open water. In the end, Ru, took us to see where the seals were resting on the rocks and shared his knowledge about them. A few of the seals popped into the water and we had the opportunity to take some pictures.
Ru made my dream come true! Thank you.

Terrific kayaking later in the day. Our guides (Jon and Kylie) were very conscious of safety, enthusiastic and knowledgable. The seals were very close (one even joined us in the water!) and enjoying the sun going down whilst paddling seemed very special. Big thumbs up to both this experience and Kaikoura Kayaks!

Sea kayaking for first time with a fantastic company who made us feel very welcome and totally safe. Special thanks to our special guide Emma who gave us two 70-something year olds the confidence to give kayaking a go! Loved seeing the birds and seals and enjoying the wonderful scenery and ever-changing landscapes in this beautiful region.

This was such a fun time! Miles and Ru were our guides for this trip and they were an absolute hit. They were both very kind and welcoming, and also very knowledgeable about the sea life and surrounding area. I felt safe the entire time as they expressed multiple times that our safety was key. We felt very lucky with how calm and serene the water was during our trip, and couldn’t have had a better experience. Saw plenty of fur seals, schools of fish, sting rays, even a blue penguin decided to swim around our kayaks! I would do this again in a heartbeat. Thanks to Miles, Ru and Kaikoura Kayaks for the awesome memories!

What a wonderful experience we had with our guide, Roo today. We had the opportunity to go on the Sunset kayak tour, but got so much more than we expected. Roo had seen the possibility of dolphins, and we made our way to encounter a very large pod. So exciting! Then off we went to see the seals too. The culmination to our trip was the incredibly beautiful sunset and new friends made along the way. Thank you Roo for guiding us and creating a magical evening! Rod & Pam

If you are thinking about this trip, do it! It’s an amazing trip and we had fantastic customer service. Our guide (Jon) was friendly, great with the kids, knowledgeable and relaxed while keeping everyone safe. We saw lots of seals including some that were swimming pretty close to us and learned lots about them. Thanks for going out of your way to fit us in - we appreciate it!
