- luisasS2629LQ0 contributionsEducational Llama Trek: A Thoughtful Walk with KevinRecently experienced this llama trek guided by Kevin, and it was a unique and enriching journey. Kevin's extensive knowledge of llamas transformed the trek into an educational exploration. This tour isn't about play—it's a slow, deliberate walk designed to help you think and observe like a llama. A truly distinctive and insightful adventure.Written 6 December 2023
- Journey5966790 contributionsFantastic experience! What an awesome experience! I will definitely do this again. I had a 7yr old & a 9yr old with me, the 9yr old was very nervous and I can't thank Kevin enough for his patience and persistence with her. The 7yr old and I loved it and highly rate the experience. This should go on the Must Do list when in Kaikoura!Written 18 November 2023
- 83gerardu0 contributionsWe have two new friends! This was a fantastic experience. The guide was welcoming, knowledgeable and interesting. Meeting and getting to know our llamas was a lovely experience that we will remember for a long, long time. We would definitely recommend to others.Written 14 November 2023
- davesmith2870 contributionsGreat afternoon outIt was really fun experience to do. Nice walk in quiet countryside environment. Llamas were really nice. Interesting to learn about them. Would definitely recommend this.Written 13 November 2023
- sharonbT3108HU0 contributionsAwesome animal experience. We absolutely loved our trek with these beautiful placid animals. David was great, not only super friendly but full of Llama facts. The trek took us down a lovely quiet flat track, across a small stream to a point where we had lovely views of the mountain. Never felt hurried, plenty of time for pics and cuddles with these gorgeous Llama’s. Would highly recommend this trek if you are an animal lover and in Kaikoura.Written 3 October 2023
- ashleypM2203ZY0 contributionsLots of laughs and cuteness overload!I cannot recommend this experience enough. My only regret was that we didn't have time to do the half day trek. Kevin was a great guide who was very knowledgeable about the llama, other wildlife and plants we encountered, and was even kind enough to let us play with the litter of puppies that his adorable dogs recently had. The llamas gave us lots of good laughs with all their noises and photo poses (which Kevin offered to take for us). My husband and I were lucky enough to be the only people on the taster tour when we went so we had lots of time for questions and dedicated guidance with handling the llama. The llama were very well trained, included the one I handled which was the "naughty" one. This is definitely a must do in Kaikoura!Written 30 August 2023
- gibsonfaitht0 contributionsWinter trekking with LlamaDid our first llama trekking and in new zealand with David. Needless to say, excellent and enriching experience. Love it when its a dedicated trekking. Believed its due to winter. David is awesome. He answered all our ignorant questions and even posed us questions to enhance our understanding of llama. We also learned more about the trekking path and David's day to day experiences working with Llama. Highly recommend!Written 8 August 2023
- rachelleb7460 contributionsHow's the serenity? We were taken out by Kevin and accompanied by Harry and Archie the Llamas. Kevin put us both at ease while he explained to us a Llamas nature and what to be aware of, along with how to guide them and keep them feeling safe. Kevin clearly has a passion for all his animals, and their priority comes first which was really important to us. I think this is best suited for those with a genuine love of animals and learning, not for those who just want a photo and a pat (the llamas aren't a fan of being touched). In saying that, Kevin very kindly offered to capture some snaps in the middle of the trip when Harry and Archie had gotten more comfortable with us. I absolutely adored it and it felt really peaceful - I could have easily done the half day. Thank you Kevin, I hope the introduction of your dog to his babies went well!Written 17 July 2023
- Megan K0 contributionsAmazing and unique experience! My sister in law and I did the taster trek and we can’t recommend it enough! We had llamas, Max and Pegasus and they were full of personality and very fascinating to watch. Our guide, David was very knowledge and made our experience even more enjoyable. If you are passing through Kaikoura or just love animals, this is a must do. Don’t miss out! 🦙Written 6 July 2023
- JimmyandJessica0 contributionsA Fun and Quirky Change from the Typical! My wife and I organized a last minute trip by emailing Kevin the night before our request since we were only in town for one day. Kevin set us up with David and 2 llamas for the easy and informational trek. It was a nice break from the normal touristy type things to do and we really enjoyed learning about the llamas and local area while walking with them side by side. David was a great host, very personable, and gave is some great and interesting info. I would highly recommend this tour for a nice chilled couple of hours with some llamas and some great pics.Written 18 May 2023

- AlexanderAlainMeijer0 contributionsBest Llama buddyTL:DR : Awesome activity. 10/10 would do it again. Kevin (our awesome guide) gave Joey and I the vital task of Head Llama. We were now a team he said, and the survival of the herd was in our hands. I quickly learnt that for Joey this was a very real sensation and I had to get attuned to his way of thinking and observing to win his trust. Throughout the trek I really felt I got to know and become friends with this Llama, and was sad to say goodbye at the end. Kevin really did a good job at teaching us about Llama handling (animal handling in general) and their biology, history, psychology. He also gave an concise overview of Kaikoura history, giving life to the absolutely beautiful scenery. Loved the Llama. This is a must do.Written 18 March 2023

My adult daughter and I absolutely loved this tour. We were not quite sure what to expect ..... either something memorable or.......hopefully......... not something questionable!.
Definitely Memorable!!
We were not sure how long the walk would be and how hard. "Trek" to me, suggests a long hard (hiking) walk. It was definitely not this. We walked with our Llamas along flat tracks, across the beach and a few rocky places. Kevin, our guide, gave us the choice whether we wished to do the beach and rocks walk - yes please!!
The Llamas set the pace and my llama (Bluey) would quickly bend his head and enjoy the grass when Kevin would stop to explain something about llamas or about the 2016 earthquake and how it changed the landscape in Kaikoura.
Kaikoura is beyond beautiful with its black beaches, snow capped mountains and blue, blue sky. We had the perfect day weather-wise and it was wonderful to walk with the llamas and gain their trust. They were very shy to begin but this changed and we walked with them. Such beautiful animals.
Kevin was a very good tour guide with great, very interesting information ..... and good sense of humour - although he denies this.
Highly recommend this tour.

Our Llama’s Joey and Hero were very interesting. Kevin took great care of his “boys” and educated us. We had a most pleasant afternoon walking to the seal colony with our Llama’s and learning how best to interact with them and understand them. PS. The brownies and coffee were good too!

A fabulous afternoon from start to finish.
Kevin was so knowledgeable about the history and geology of the area, and of course his llamas.
It was a joy to trek with Max, Archie and Harry who taught us so much about themselves.
Cake and hot drink were delicious.
A must do in Kaikoura.
We had so much fun!

Brilliant trip with Kev and our Llamas Joey and Hero. A lot of care and attention has gone into the llamas well-being, which was great to see. I loved to learn about these beautiful creatures and Kaikouras history would recommend to anyone to take this tour. We did it on a rainy day when it wasn’t so busy and it was FAB

This has to be one of the most memorable adventures for its uniqueness and beauty. We were fortunate to have not only a great guide, 2 tremendous llamas and the most beautiful day kaikoura had to offer. Don't hesitate, give this adventure a go.. you won't regret it and will want to come back for more!

This Llama trek was awesome! My dad and I booked a half day tour and it was amazing. Kevin was so passionate about the llamas. You can tell he truly loves them and trekking with them. We learned a lot about Kaikoura and he answered all of my wacky questions about llamas. There were many stops (some for the llamas and some for the humans) so definitely don’t worry about being fit in order to do this activity. It was very laid back but wonderful to learn from Kevin and walk with your llama! Sometimes other activities in Kaikoura get cancelled because of the weather but this activity never gets cancelled by the tour guides which is really nice to know if you are planning to visit. You also get to see the fur seal colony which was great! This is a unique way to learn about Kaikoura, spent time on the coastline and become buddies with a llama. If I’m back in Kaikoura I will do this again. I almost forgot, my llama’s name is Legend. He was quite the leader of the group!

Stunning location for llama trekking, mountains are beautiful. 😁😁Kaikoura is a cool town. The tour guide gave a good run down on the history of the area. I had a funny humming llama named bluey. 🙃
