Kevin was a fun and knowledgeable guide and we loved that the 3 dogs came a long to keep us all in check! - suebToowoomba0 contributionsTaking a Llama for a walk.Instead of searching for whales in Kaikoura we decided to do something different. Kaikoura Llama Trekking. What an amazing experience meeting with these beautiful gentle animals. Kevin, our excellent guide, introduced us to our llamas before we started and explained the right way to bond and walk our new friends. We walked with Kevin and our llamas through some beautiful countryside overlooked by snow capped mountains. We stopped frequently to allow our llamas to nibble on their favourite grass. They were easy to handle and seemed to sense our calm. All up it was a fantastic experience for us. Grahame and SueWritten 19 May 2024

- lennoxd5580 contributionsAwesome!!!!!!This was AMAZING!!!! Me and my mom went May 17th and were the only two to trek in our group. Our tour guides name was Kevin I believe, and he was so extremely awesome. He took us on the bus to the starting location with the llamas and explained thoroughly how to start with the llamas, and set very clear expectations for how it would go. And it went amazing!!!!! We got to walk with the llamas, learn how to earn their trust, stop them, turn them, and we were even trustworthy enough to pet them. We also met a ton of lovely dogs who walked with us on the trails, and got a lot of information about the llamas themselves. Overall it was a really wonderful experience and if we ever come back we will not hesitate to come here again! He also took really nice photos of us but those are on my moms phone so I am going to post the silly ones I tookWritten 16 May 2024
- PinballShaxxon0 contributionsSuper fun activity for the entire familiyKevin really showed our family a good time on this super fun llama trek for our whole family. The llamas were really cute and Kevin told us everything we needed to know to comfortably co-exist and walk the llamas. We had a great time, enjoyed some great laughs and got to know these splendid farm animals. Highly recommended when you're in Kaikoura!!!Written 23 March 2024
- Connector589399902360 contributionsBeautiful walk and a cool experienceWe had a beautiful walk along the beaches in Kaikoura with Kevin and his fascinating and intelligent llamas. It’s a cool experience to bond with an animal this way and I highly recommend it. The yummy cakes and coffee is a nice bonus!Written 29 January 2024
- family_manDevon0 contributionsA Forever MemoryWe had a fantastic time with Kevin and his Llamas. Kevin not only led us on a beautiful trek but also taught us about the Llama, how they thought and behaved, and explained how we needed to respond to this. Over three and a half hours, you build up a bond with your llama and begin to get a flavour of their character. Coupled with that, a beautiful walk around the bay to the seal colony to see New Zealand Fur Seals and lots of stunning scenery. A lovely stop for tea, coffee, and cake made for a lovely relaxing adventure. This experience is more than just walking with a llama. You have to think about your llama, what they may be anxious about, allowing them to graze and keeping everyone safe. All this is done under Kevin's expert eye and with his excellent sense of humour and interest in his visitors. My wife summed our experience up as a "forever memory," and I couldn't agree more.Written 24 January 2024

- Betty J0 contributionsLlama friends for a lifetimeI had the pleasure of walking bluey, a llama past his prime but full of naughty hungry energy. He was such a character. My partner walked Max who was the cutest best lead llama you could ask for. The pictures and videos we took that day continue to show up on my phone and I smile every time :)Written 12 January 2024
- Dcrawford840 contributionsAbsolutely brilliant, perfect as a family activityI came across llama trekking randomly whilst planning our trip to KaikĹŤura and surprised my children (12 and 8). We all had an amazing time, it is very clear how much these boys are cared for. Kevin was very knowledgeable about these amazing animals. I led Bluey, we were asked not to touch them until we maintained a bond (which makes perfect sense). He was so cute he kept walking into me before we could pet them which I actually liked. At first, I was a nervous as I have a knee injury but I found Bluey to be incredibly gentle as he walked, he went at my speed. I appreciated that. My children were pleased with the llama they led, my son (12) couldn't stop giggling and my daughter thought Pegasus was beautiful. We plan on coming back to KaikĹŤura at some stage and will definitely be back for the longer trek Thanks so much Kevin, you provided an excellence. I recommend to anyone and everyone. Very cool and unique.Written 12 January 2024

Had an absolutely amazing experience with Kevin’s guided llama trek! I was the only person booked for that day (the tours usually only proceed if there’s more guests), but he went above and beyond in ensuring I was still able to go for the tour in the few days I was stopping over in Kaikoura.
The tour itself was so fun, he taught us how to lead and interact with the lovely llamas, and we got to explore so many beautiful places along the shorelines, with lots of interesting tidbits about each location we stopped at. The llamas themselves were a joy to walk (I walked with Legend), much like walking gentle big dogs, and it was really fun watching them explore and snack alongside us!
Thank you for this tour, and I’ll definitely bring my friends/family here in future!

The owner obviously loves his llamas a great deal and he imparts that enthusiasm as the walk progresses. It is purposefully a small group so you can have in-depth conversations. The llamas were fun and personable and very easy to handle. And our friends liked the pictures better than any other part of our trip. Truly a unique and individual experience.

It's surprising relaxing walking with the llamas. Kevin briefed us really well and helped set us up for success on how to earn the llamas trust, stop them from seeing us a predators but as part of the herd and how to gently nudge them along.
The walk is along the beautiful Kaikoura coast and Kevin also shared his knowledge about the geology, the impact of the 2016 earthquake and tons of facts about llamas. You can tell he really loves his llamas and always looks out for their best interest.
I was very amused when my llama, Max, ended up walking right behind me instead on my right, and kept exhaling on my hair! And his constant moaning noises were right by my ear. In my imagination, he was trying to talk to me, although Kevin explained that he was just informing the other llamas that eveything was okay and there were no predators around. And one of the llamas also loved to use our jackets as his scratching post (but I'll think of it as him showing affection).
I would highly recommend this. There's nothing to be afraid of and tons to enjoy. The walk is mostly flat, although we walk on the rocky beach for a bit, so wear good shoes for good grip.

Going on the half day trek was well worth it due to the bond you end up creating with your llama in this case Harry for me. The views were spectacular and the guide had very interesting information about both the Llama and the history of Kaikoura. The time went super fast!
I would definitely recommend this as it is one of those truly unique experiences.

An absolute must do if you’re in Kaikoura. We had an amazing time with the lovely Joey and Hero. Kevin was a fabulous guide and we learnt so much about llamas and the Kaikoura area. I highly recommend doing the half day trek which involved a beautiful walk along the coastline (with gorgeous walking companions of course!) and a break with hot drinks and cake. You really get to know the unique personalities of these wonderful animals and you’ll be sorry to say goodbye to them. We loved it!

I loved doing this treck, it is very simple so that anyone can enjoy it but it has impressive views of the sea and the mountains while the guide tells you many details about the history of the city of Kaikoura. I discover new places while enjoying with the llamas and othert guests. Also, I learned a lot about llamas way of thinking and my favorite thing of the treck was"becoming a friend" with my llama Bluey. Without a doubt I would do it again!! Thank you Kevin!!

Wonderful experience. Our 2 year old daughter absolutely loved meeting our llamas "Hero" and "Joey", and spending time with them. Kevin was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable in relation to the animals and the history of Kaikoura itself. This is a very family-friendly activity and Kaikoura itself is beautiful nestled in between the ocean and mountains. We strongly recommend this activity for everyone and were very happy to support a local Kaikoura business. Thanks Kevin and Hero for a wonderful morning walk!

Incredible tour - highly recommend the half day trek! Kevin is a remarkable tour guide full of information and we came away fully educated in how to interact with llamas - how often do you get that kind of education!! The llamas were so adorable and very calm, especially since Kevin gave us a very thorough education on how to befriend them so that each llama had its “trusted human”. Fyffe house was really interesting and we had free entry on the tour and an opportunity to check out the seal colony as well. What an amazing half day and well worth the money! Next time we would love to stay at the homestead and have the full farm stay experience! Thanks so much for a wonderful time Kevin, coolest thing we did in the South Island!

The trekking was wonderful, the llamas behaved in an exemplary manner, which was also due to Kevin's detailed explanations. We learned a lot about the behaviour of llamas and were able to experience a leisurely and very relaxed walk.
As we spent the night in the Colonial Wagon at Wacky Stays (definitely worth an overnight stop!), we were also allowed to feed the llamas and the many other animals in the afternoon.
Llamas are great animals and Kevin gave us a funny, vivid and entertaining introduction to their behaviour.
Definitely recommended, our whole family (2 adults and 2 boys, 11y & 9y) enjoyed the trip to the full! Thank you Kevin with Pegasus, Bluey, Joey & Hero

I had such a great time and cannot recommend this experience enough. The weather was good, the group was really small and Kevin answered all of our questions and also told us a lot about Llamas and KaikĹŤura. I had the pleasure of walking along the coast with Legend and he was such a sweet and calm boy. Definitely THE highlight of my trip to KaikĹŤura. Will definitely come back :)
