    Great experience!
A great time kayaking! This was my wife's and my first time doing a sea kayak and it was definitely a highlight experience. Our guide Brad was excellent, ensuring everyone in our group was comfortable with the kayaks, explaining all the safety features and providing us with so much information about Kaikoura, the sea life . . . Optional equipment they provided was great, from booties to jackets we stayed dry the whole time. Definitely a workout - especially kayaking back in. We went at the end of November and sunset was at 8:30pm so we didn't get to see the sunset, but overall a great time and highly recommended.

    Fab experience
It was only my second time kayaking in 58 years and it was a wonderful experience, thanks mainly to the professionalism and humour of our guide, Bradley. He had a wealth of knowledge and an easygoing manner that made me overcome my initial nerves. He also took pics of us kayaking which was greatly appreciated. We saw and learnt about the fur seals and the highlight was the 3 dusky dolphins that decided to come along and do an acrobatic show for us!

Beautiful and relaxing on the sea. Saw a lot of fur seals and puppies diving in the bay. Do not be afraid if you are a beginner or not 20 anymore ! We are around 60 and felt very comfortable with the tour and safety onstructions ! Would highly recommand !

    Phenomenal Experience
I am an active septuagenarian but have never been in a sea kayak before. With this crew, no problem. The equipment is provided and the training to get into and out of it is explained. You do need the upper body strength to paddle. Our morning the water was almost glassy and the fur seals were out enjoying it. Yasmin led our group and did a wonderful job explaining our surroundings and the NZ culture. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

    AMAZING WHOLE FAMILY EXPERIENCE TOGETHER
Our whole family could go - 3 year old in the middle, 5 and 9 year olds in the front of Dad and Granny, Mum infront of personal guide. Brilliant. Kids a bit nervous, but settled well. Seals were just great - on the rocks and rolling in the ocean - preening the oil onto their coat for waterproofing, NOT just for the joy of rolling in the water, but it looks like that! HUGE mountains, so close. Great photos. Lots of fun. THANK YOU, I will be back.

Don’t leave Kaikoura without doing this tour
We booked this last minute, like an hour before the tour start time. So lucky to be the only 2 people on the tour and John (along with Emma) made it a fabulous experience. Very professional and friendly, good gear and spectacular place to kayak. We have a fair level of fitness so didn’t struggle with the paddling. Were blessed to see two species of dolphins and birds up close and fur seals. With the stunning backdrop of snow covered mountains, this is a tour we are rapped we could enjoy on our trip to the South Island.

Beautiful scenery, amazing experience and great business
I had a great time kayaking on Monday in this beautiful place. I was super limited on time as I was in the country on a business trip so really happy they could fit me in last minute. Couldn’t recommend more they have everything you need there you just turn up and have a great few hours out on the water

    What an awesome experience!
I went on a family tour with my two grandchildren (10 and 12) with Kaikoura Kayaks. It was a great experience. The tour was very well organized and managed. The safety briefly was simple and clear and easy to understand. Our guide Emma was excellent. She gave options, told us facts and information when she thought kids were listening, and was prepared for a bit of banter and fun from pre-teenage children. We loved feeling adventurous going out in the bigger waves and were so excited by the real highlight of seeing a seal work it's way through eating a large fish by smacking it on the water to break it up. Thanks so much Emna and Kaikoura Kayaks for a fabulous time 🙂

Awesome kayak tour with Matt. Saw some great seals and had a good surf ride home with the high waves :-) You can't do anything wrong with this tour.

    Unforgettable experience!
We had a fantastic experience with Emma, a wonderful guide who was really knowledgeable about the wildlife and made us feel confident and at ease on the water. Kayaking up close to dolphins and seals with the backdrop of the mountains in the South Pacific was an experience we shall never forget.

    So awesome!
We did the 8:30am kayak. We saw so many dolphins (we were told this isn’t super common)!! It was absolutely magical and incredible! We “raced” them in the kayaks and they jumped and splashed around. We also saw lots of sunbathing seals. Our guide was great and knowledgeable. We were staying in Christchurch and made the 2.5hr drive before the sun even came up, but boy was it worth the trip!!

    Defenitely overpriced
The price of a 'half day' kayak tour is 140 dollar per person. They use two seat kayaks, so that makes 280 dollar for a kayak. And what do you get? 75min on the water. Seriously, that is not ok. Be honest with your cliënts by telling them up front. You simply can't sell this for 280 dollar.

    Brilliant!
Incredible experience cannot recommend more highly. Matt, Emma and the team provide brilliant instruction and gear and really made us feel comfortable before setting out on the water. We were so lucky to be surrounded by a massive pod of dusky dolphins who hung out around us putting on the show of a lifetime.

My wife and I had an amazing time on our trip, we were booked in for a later tour, but Matt from Kaikoura Kayaks suggested the weather would be better for earlier in the day, and he was absolutely right. Our guide Emma was fantastic, and did an amazing job keeping us under control and on track, she was even thoughtful enough to reassure the missus when she wasn't feeling confident kayaking in the open water with a little bit of swell. I would definately reccomend this tour, and would consider going again.

Spent a truly incredible morning around the Kaikoura Peninsula with Matt and Emma, two fantastic local guides. The whole operation was very professional, with high quality kayaks, equipment and a detailed safety briefing. Spent a good amount of time observing the seals, tried our hand at some kayak surfing in the big swells, and just as we were thinking about heading home, encountered a superpod of about 100 dusky dolphins completely by chance. Needless to say this was unbelievably lucky, but an absolutely unforgettable experience, and just goes to show the abundance of marine life in Kaikoura. Thanks for an awe-inspiring day out in the kayaks!

Extremely well run organisation and amazing guides. From the minute you arrive till the end of the trip, you’re given clear instructions and well looked after by the crew.

Emma gave a running commentary on the wildlife and local region through the entire tour. Despite there being other guests, the level of attention given to us individually made it feel like it was a private trip.

Worth every cent, will definitely return to do a kayak fishing tour or perhaps rent a paddle board for the day.

Cheers Emma and Miles, I had an amazing time with Kaikōura kayaks. (:

The guides Emma and Jonna made us (inexperienced kayakers) feel very secure before we got on the water and that we were in the best care. Jonna tailored our trip on the water to what we wanted to see of the wildlife that was around. We had such a cruisy but fun time, Jonna gave us lots of little interesting nuggets of information about everything we saw! My daughter and her friend (both 14) loved seeing the seal feeding, and thought that was the best part.

We had an amazing time on the water, I highly recommend this experience to anyone who loves getting up close with nature. We had the privilege of having Shay guide us which made the trip all the better, a fun and knowledgeable guide. We were extremely lucky to have lots of dolphin encounters and the seals were also putting on a great show.

We took the wildlife sea-kayak tour and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. In fact it would rate as one of the best experiences we have ever done. It was very professionally run with a great guide, Shay who gave excellent instruction for those of us who hadn’t sea-kayaked before. Then we set off and once we got underway Shay was on to trying to find if there were any dolphins on the area. A phone call told him that there were but a long paddle away. The group voted to go visit the seals first then go searching for dolphins. After a really long paddle we FOUND a HUGE pod of dolphins who were in a very playful mood. What an experience up and close to these beautiful creatures who swam around us, dived under our kayaks, and leaped out of the sea with backward somersaults and lay on their back splashing us with their flippers! We stayed so long out with the dolphins, they moved the van around further along the shore so we didn’t have to paddle so far back! Even so we were still late back! Shay did a fantastic job and we all loved the experience. Would highly recommend!

Fantastic trip out on the water with Kaikoura Kayaks. We were incredible lucky, halfway through our tour Matt radioed from shore that a huge pod of dolphins was across the bay, so gave us the option to kayak over to them. Of course we said yes and were rewarded with the most amazing hour or more of dolphins playing around our kayaks. Splashing, showing off, swimming beneath us - my daughter said it was the best day of her life. Matt also shuttled the vans closer to where we were to avoid along kayak back, and the guides let us stay out longer than usual - they were loving it too!
Prior to that we were very impressed by having a guide per family group; the seals were also very cool, swimming around our kayaks, and the guides were very knowledgeable and great with the kids (Emma, Shay and Hamish). Highly recommend!
The weather was awesome too, even the guides said 'how often do you see the largest ocean in the world like a mirror?' Equipment was good and everything was very professional. Thanks for a great trip!

With all the photos of dolphins in the marketing I was hoping we would see some and that this would an interactive kayak trip. Instead we kayaked to the point which you can see from the beach to view the fur seals. We lined up and huddled on the bouy next to the fur seals. We were on the end at this point and could only catch snippets of what guides were saying. When you can view the fur seals from other places for free in the area it really was an overpriced kayaking trip. I wish we'd done the Whale watching instead, which was going to cost our family of four about the same price. Marketing photos are misleading. You need to get lucky to see dolphins which is why they don't guarantee them, don't expect them.

Thank you for your honest feedback Teresa, we would like the opportunity to confirm that yes one of our marketing photos shows a dolphin jumping which is a speculator photo, we also show NZ Fur Seals, Blue Penguins, sea birds etc etc. As you have mentioned we never guarantee dolphin viewing due to the nature of wildlife. We love the fact that Dusky Dolphins are wild and free and not on display in captivity. This is also the same situation for all wildlife activity tours - not even whales are guaranteed. In all our marketing material we clearly detail “Chance encounters of Dusky Dolphins” with 100% seal viewing guaranteed. You can see from the many 5 stars reviews we often encounter a variety of marine life (Wildlife encounters) and each day can be quite different. We do our absolute best to ensure customer satisfaction, so we do sincerely apologise that dolphins were not sited on your tour. We are disappointment that you could not hear your guide while rafted up together as a group of kayakers on a buoy to share information and interact with everyone. If this happens on any other activities, you are involved in going forward please let your guide know as I am sure they are not doing this intentionally. Most of the time you will find Guides are only more than happy to get things ‘right’ for the customer. Agreed you can see Fur Seals from other locations, choosing a kayak activity is certainly about creating experiences, learning new skills, and exploring areas not accessible by foot such as southern tip of the Kaikoura Peninsula (Atia Point) that you reached by kayak. The cost of our tour you will find is a standard fare which is reflected across the board with most reputable Sea Kayak company’s in NZ. In fact, this summer we are offering a special of $20 off pp for adults & children on all our tours. Your Family of 4 would have cost normally $390.00, if our discount were applied then the cost would have been $310.00, and we see you booked through another discounted web site which you paid $289.80 for your family kayaking tour. Sounds like you saved $100.02, what a deal! On a family kayaking tour our ratios are 1 x guide to 4 x people which means most of the time you end up with a private tour once kayaking at no extra charge. Again, thank you Teresa for your honest feedback, we will forward to all staff and take your thoughts on board which help us ultimately run a better experience. Kind regards, The Kaikoura Kayaks Team.

Lovely day for kayaking. Enjoyed viewing the seals and a penguin then we were informed that there was a pod of dolphins at the other end of the bay. We made our way across and watched some 50 plus dolphins play all around us for at least half an hour. They seemed to enjoy being around us putting on quite a show. I think we were exceptionally lucky to get so close and see so many. We probably over ran by an hour. All credit to the team for allowing us to do this and in particular Emma's enthusiasm. The company even picked us up from a different spot at the end of the trip so we didn't need to paddle back to the starting point. Highly recommended

We had an amazing experience! Our lovely guide ensured we were well prepared and supported everyone in the group who were at different levels. We had an amazing event occur where we saw a whale teaching her baby to breach. This was a reasonably rare and our guide was as excited as we were. It went on for almost an hour and many locals came out in their boats to see the sight. Such a great experience!
